  1. I can understand why the fire vehicles are red, even though in reality they may be different colors. The ones at our nearest fire station are more yellow than anything else. What I never understood is why the stations themselves have to be consistently red. Having a virtually monochrome set does not make much of an interesting build. Surely, kids like variety in their color when it comes to a single building. It would be nice to see a fire station with perhaps light/dark tan masonry bricks or even another non-red color. I would say that all a fire station really needs is the vehicle bays, the pole, and maybe a fire hydrant. Anything else is subject to variation.
  2. I buy large plastic bins and then place bagged sets in them. Then, they go under the bed.
  3. Just the typical AFOL horror story. It is short, but to the point. A long time ago, Mom sold the Galaxy Explorer, Alpha I rocket base, and the Yellow Castle in a garage sale.
  4. I am glad to see they are continuing this line. We finally got around to buying the Mustang GT and definitely want to see more in the collection. They are fun to build and the affordability really opens up the possibility to a wide audience. Hoping to get the Corvette and LeFerrari at the end of the month. By the time we get those and perhaps a few more of the earlier wave, it will be time to look at the new ones. That wind tunnel Ferrari set looks interesting. Cannot wait to see the pics of these.
  5. In another thread, there is a rumor that City will have a hospital theme in the summer wave of 2017. For those hoping for a hospital, this could be encouraging, although it will probably not come in the form of a modular. If the City hospital is good enough to be a parts pack, there is a reasonable chance of converting it into one. This is not to say that the next modular would not have a medical theme, but it will certainly not be a working hospital. A doctor/dental practice would work, or it could be something entirely different. I do hope there is at least some residential space in the next one, even if it is over a business like in Pet Shop or Parisian Restaurant.
  6. Store pick-up and preorders would be awesome. It would prevent that mini Black Friday effect with people lining up outside the Lego stores to get that new set, especially something like an Ideas one that could be very limited (looking at you, Research Institute). It would be especially great if you could preorder to arrange for store pick up of something like the upcoming Saturn V. I either have to place a S@H at midnight eastern time or I had better be at the store and near the front of the line the day it debuts. In fact, I might have to do both if my son also wants one and they limit 1 per customer. There have been a couple of times where the store held something for me until I could get there since it was about an hour's drive from my house, although I never asked them to do something like that for a set that just made its debut. As for the new site, it is OK, but there is one small discrepancy. I placed an order two weeks ago with two items on backorder. Since then, the backorder items have shipped, but there is no tracking number for either of them. Normally when the order gets split due to backorder or a combined online PAB purchase, they provide a tracking number for each separate shipment. So far, only the first item has one.
  7. Excellent! Yes, quality is an objective trait, but when 99.9% of viewers think that your very colorful house made out of 2x4 primary colored bricks with a Ninjago and Minecraft occupant should not be on Lego Ideas, likely they are correct. Those kinds of things can be displayed on the Lego Galleries on their website. Someone also mentioned before the idea of having some examples of successful sets to present to would-be designers to see if they compare to their own ideas. There are probably several projects I would support, but simply do not want to go through pages of things obviously built during elementary school in order to find it.
  8. Although I am not into Voltron myself, it does appear that it appeals to multiple demographics. Also, it is not too big, which always helps. This would be my prediction.
  9. Very theme and brickwork. The little details are nice, and the buildings really give the feel of Amsterdam. I also like the usage of plates on the outside to emphasize the brick layers.
  10. Very nice job of contouring! Having such a change in elevation can certainly create new possibilities.
  11. Excellent usage of space for a 32x32 footprint. This would be a great model to have for someone who does not have a lot of shelf/countertop space, but is not so much limited in vertical space.
  12. Since you are building a police station, you might also want to look at the City sets and see if any of them provide a significant amount or type of parts you would like for your MOC. If you plan on using a lot of white/blue bricks and also need some police minifigs, you might find the current City police station useful for parts. For every set, you can pull up the building instructions online and look towards the back for the complete parts list. Sometimes, but not always, a set like that could make for a nice parts pack.
  13. I hope they get the four recommended power functions in stock by the time the train comes out. I placed an order for the train motor and the IR receiver now since they are currently on backorder until the middle of the month. In October, hopefully the battery box and remote controller will still be available so I can get those as well. Sales of this train could depend in part on availability of the four power function items when someone decides they want to purchase it. If one or more of these is not available, it could be a dealbreaker for some. Still no word on whether or not a packaged deal with the power functions will be available.
  14. Fun in the Park was frequently in the top seller list on S@H, therefore I will bet that TLG got the message that sets like that are appreciated. The nice thing about this particular set is that you could have a lot of various combinations to make new minifigures. If you buy more than one, having duplicates of most of the parts/builds is beneficial. Who would not want that second hot dog bun, bicycle, wheelchair, baby, etc? Hopefully, more minifigure packs like this will be frequent in the City sets. I would also be curious to see which demographic groups are buying these.
  15. The real test of the new design will probably be October 1, when new sets come out and double points begin. Sometimes when that happened, the system crashed and people could not place orders. Hopefully, that was fixed.
  16. An arcade would also likely have stickers for the various game screens, and judging by some of the comments towards the inclusion of them in Palace Cinema, it would not be well received. The other reason I would not be overly excited by an arcade would be the fact that it would require a highly detailed interior. This means a lot of parts on the inside, which would take away from the exterior. When the rumor of the arcade came out last year, I was very glad to hear it was a bank instead.
  17. That sounds fantastic! I like this idea even more than the hospital/doctor's office. They could definitely incorporate a storyline involving the musicians if they wished. If you had records in it, then it would maintain that old time feel that many of the modulars have.
  18. Well, my son likes penguins, so we might have to fill a PAB cup full of parts to build several. Oct 1 is a Saturday, so that would be a good day to go to the Lego Store and get the Holiday train, the PAB cup, double points, and the bonus set. Funny how the Death Star is available September 30. Hopefully no one buys it when the very next day offers the double points.
  19. If Lepin is also cloning the train track, especially straight track, they might make a lot of money.
  20. It could very well be possible that trying to avoid a certain review batch could be a good strategy. In theory, if I submitted something, I probably would not want to go up against the likes of Saturn V, the labryinth maze, or even something like the up and coming pop up book. Yes, I know they could approve more than one set, but still, it would be disheartening to go into review with the feeling like there is one or more projects in that batch that would probably top my entry. Sometimes, it is all in the timing. This cannot be proven, but I strongly believe that in an alternate universe, if Birds, Labyrinth, Wall-E, Dr. Who, Saturn V, and Yellow Submarine were in the same batch, we would not be getting some of these.
  21. What a lucky boy he will be! I like the backgrounds you have on those minifigs. I also am making an album of minifigs often using real backgrounds, kind of like the guy in my profile photo. As for which ones to choose, it is a tough choice. Benny and the knight are especially great, but that third spot would be a tough call,
  22. My understanding is that it is very hard to tell with the exception of the missing Lego logo. It is interesting to see a side by side comparison of the two. In the "Shameless Confession" thread, I stated an actual temptation to acquire a Lepin version of something like Green Grocer or Super Star Destroyer. Yet, I have so far decided not to cross over to the dark side. Instead, this next extra paycheck will go to some small Lego sets and power functions.
  23. In PC, the stickers are used for the marquee title, the movie posters on the inside and outside walls, and the movie screen itself.
  24. The pop up book was at 400 votes this morning and now is over 1000 within just one day. This could make it to 10000 quickly at this pace. Hopefully it will become a staff pick. That always gives things a boost. When this makes review, it is going to be a juggernaut. Lego is geared to kids, as are pop up books. Now you have an intersection of the two. As a teacher, I can imagine this will become popular at the elementary level as well.
  25. Nice vehicles, but with no handcuffs or back seat in the police car, what do you do when you catch the crook? 79003 An Unexpected Gathering
