  1. Great job! Both a corner and an inverted corner depending on which way you look at it.
  2. Great job inside and out! The multiple themes on the inside are excellent.
  3. I must agree about the new Joker. I ended up purchasing the Lego Dimensions one with Harley in order to avoid the new "Pennywise Joker", or should we call him "Jokerjaws"? There has been some criticism to certain SW updates such as the latest Tatooine Luke Skywalker. The extra detailing makes him look older in a sense. Despite these and a few others, I would maintain that most minifigs have come a long way.
  4. The upcoming Arkham Asylum looks like an interesting set to give modular treatment. I would make it a standalone building, give it a back, and maybe buy two to get more rooms in it.
  5. Lego Southfork by Steven Wagner, on Flickr This is in the Miniland section of the Grapevine, Texas Lego Discovery Center. While it might not be a theme, it is certainly within the realm of possibility to build it
  6. That really adds to the set. It makes it look even more like the real thing!
  7. It certainly adds realism to the row of modulars. I like all the original building designs as well. The streetlamps are really nice in addition to the other features. Agreed that it is a shame the only way to get a straight road plate is to buy it with the intersection. it would not be a problem if there was an intersection at every other plate
  8. There is a whole website devoted to using Lego as an investment. It is called Brickpicker. There, you will find numerous conversations about investing in sets. Personally, when I "invest" in Lego, the question is "What set(s) would I regret no purchasing when they eventually become discontinued?" Obviously, I cannot buy everything that is on the want list, so prioritizing is necessary. And I do not buy them so that they can remain unboxed on a shelf collecting dust either. Lego is something meant to be enjoyed in both the building and displaying of it (even playing for some ). Therefore, if you are buying something just for the sake of selling, check out Brickpicker. If you are investing for your own enjoyment, then you are in good company.
  9. In order to separate the set into three distinct buildings, you would have to switch the baseplates, redo the tiles, and remove/replace the arches on the building to the left. To get the two on the right separate, it is going to be even more challenging, because the buildings share a wall. That means you need to gather the parts to build a whole new wall for one of the buildings. I am honestly a little surprised that Assembly Square was designed this way rather than to take the "Pet Shop" approach and have three buildings that could be rearranged as the builder wishes. That was one of the first rumors to come out and a lot of people expressed hope that we would get another set like that.
  10. Prior to 2017, the pattern has been corner, non corner, non corner...... Assembly Square could be considered a really big non corner given the side connections and limited options for rearranging it, so I wonder how they will handle the next one or two. If they pick another noncorner, it will make a longer block than usual, and if they go back to a corner, then it is a shorter block than usual. It will be interesting to see how they handle the block proportions many people are accustomed to.
  11. I think it is an excellent design and will look nice around the Christmas tree at the end of next month. The only thing that kept me from getting the highest rating is the look of the train when the power functions are installed. The grey on the locomotive and exposed battery box on the tender makes me want to design an extra car that can somehow hide the PF. Otherwise, this is a very nice set for a Christmas display.
  12. It would not surprise me if they eventually release their own Gingerbread House. As noted above, a promotional one was released. it is also interesting that they released a promotional train model a year before the Winter Train became the WV set. I wonder if the miniature model of the Gingerbread House is a forerunner to a larger holiday set coming in the future? If there is, hopefully it will not look too much like the Ideas submission. I would hate to see conspiracy theories ala GBHQ, helicarrier, etc.
  13. An excellent MOD for this set! I too will rave about the hot chocolate tanker, it really brings something new to the train.
  14. One thing that strikes me as odd is the arrangement of the baseplates. It is 32x32 and 16x32. At first glance, it would appear that the building on the left should be separable from the other two buildings, but the way they have it, there is no potential to rearrange anything. That building is part of the 32x32 plate. I wonder if you switched baseplates, it would be possible to give the left building more ways to maneuver it. I would like to consider rotating it 90 degrees to display the longer side on the front. That way, the ugly side on the far left is now the back and the longer side faces front. I sense a lot of people are going to try to mod this one to make it more separable.
  15. Lots of nice details, parts, and a fairly large set. I am not crazy about the apparent inability to separate the two structures on the right in the spirit of Pet Shop. Will probably try to save up for it sometime in 2017, but not in a big hurry. It looks like they revisited concepts from each of the prior modulars. I guess Jamie answered an ages old question--indeed Market Street is part of the series (runs for cover)
  16. There is a part of me hoping that it is a modern building or something I would not want, thus saving me hundreds of dollars. If it is going to be Death Star prices on this thing, it has to be good. Thankfully I do not feel the need to purchase every modular, as I still have not bought DO. Thinking back to TH, I thought part of the reason it was not as successful was that it was priced significantly higher than the others. Of course, some people had issues with the design, but for many, price was mentioned as a deterrent.
  17. An assembly could also be another term for a government building such as a parliament or something similar in function. Even if that is not what the next modular is, you could still have a town square of some kind of other important building on the perimeter of it.
  18. The two most limiting issues you will run into with online Pick-a-brick are cost and selection. The smallest parts are 10 cents per piece and they go up from there. You might be surprised how limited the selection of parts is as well. They will have the basic colors and elements for the most part.
  19. Honestly, I think Lepin will impact more people than originally thought. It is not just TLG and the designers who had their ideas stolen who will suffer. I see at least two more nasty side effects (1) Brick conventions: It is my understanding that MOCs are only supposed to be made from Lego parts per standing rule. How long will it be until someone's display is discovered to have bootleg parts in it, whether they are aware of it or not? Imagine being told you have to remove your MOC because some rogue parts are discovered on your 20,000 part masterpiece. (2) Bricklink and Ebay: It is only a matter of time until someone places an order, thinks they are getting Lego, and guess what shows up? If you are a buyer, now not only do you have to count your parts, you have to make sure every one of them is a real Lego part. If you are a seller, and you are getting your stock from anywhere other than official Lego outlets or sets, you need to verify authenticity. I have a feeling that bootleg parts are going to pollute the inventory real soon. If you see a sand green 1x8 going for less than a dollar a part, be afraid. Be very afraid.
  20. This is very faithful to the actual building! I like the color scheme and the minifigs add to it as well.
  21. I can understand the temptation to purchase a clone at a low price, especially when it is something no longer in production and off the charts expensive in the aftermarket. In the "Shameful Confessions" thread, I even stated as much. I gave some serious thought to acquiring every modular that I missed out on in my dark ages. However, something about the thievery of AFOL designs and MOCs really has rubbed me the wrong way. Now I would not buy even a Galaxy Explorer from them if they made one. When someone purchases a set from Lepin, they are supporting a company that is stealing designs from others, whether it is Lego or an individual designer. I would plead that no one purchase a Lepin set from this moment forward. Every profit they make can be reinvested into stealing yet another design from somewhere. Even if Lego loses the lawsuit in China, Lepin could still be defeated by not supporting them. Again, I understand the appeal of having a chance to own a replica of something that has long been considered to be out of reach. In this case, doing the right thing will not be easy.
  22. I think he is stating that the Fishing Store Ideas set is similar enough in scope to a modular that it will be like getting two sets next year when you consider the upcoming modular. I hope the Fishing Store comes out in the summer. That way, the releases of the two upcoming buildings are really spaced apart next year.
  23. I feel bad for the MOC creators and others who are now having their designs pirated overseas for no profit or recognition. That is just wrong. Although I do wonder how Lepin got the instructions to their sets, especially something like Barnes and Noble/Starbucks MOC that they just stole. Sure, you could look at photos to try and figure out what bricks were used in a design, but it must be very time consuming for something that large. This kind of makes me wonder if we will be seeing Minas Tirith, the Natural History Museum, The Jurassic Park gate, visitor center, (insert your favorite Lego Ideas rejection here)
  24. I think a set might have a chance if adding PF is optional, such as a train, especially if the optional installation is possible and can be added in the instructions. I agree that BB-8 was a strong case. Like Blondiewan indicated, I would bet that the magnet issue did it in. If it were not for that, I see no reason why Lego and Disney would not realize the appeal that would have had.
  25. It is nice to see Ideas finally embracing the concept of a larger set. As for sand green, it probably will stay that color. Changing that would be too far a deviation from the original project and probably would not be received well by those who supported it. My guess is that it will appear very close to the creator's design. There are a lot of nice details on this one to explore.
