LEGO Ideas Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
So the Fishing Store it is! This is certainly a surprise, but a good one. It is a true original, and we finally get a structure! If I have any money left over from Saturn V, this will get some consideration for purchasing. -
First 2016 LEGO Ideas Review - Guessing Game
AFOLguy1970 replied to Robert8's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This makes me think that at least one project was picked, otherwise I doubt they would have us stay tuned for something that would eventually be bad/no news. -
I ordered the battery box and the remote controller. Presently, those two are both on backorder. If anyone is trying to motorize a train, then those as well as the train motor are not currently available. I get the feeling they did not plan on this many people wanting power functions for the newly released Holiday Train. Guess no one wants to simply push their trains around the tree.

Not sure whether or not it is site related, but I placed an order the morning of October 1 for the double points and the bonus set. it has been showing to be "In Warehouse" right up to this point. They have never sat on an order for 5 days, but I guess it is time to call someone when I get home. Two of the items I bought were power functions, which are now on backorder, but were showing to be available at the original time of the order. This is probably going to be fun

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
January 4 seems odd to me only because the last two or three have been released on January 1 (1-1 regardless of where you live) The 4th of January is on a Wednesday as well, so I cannot see why a set would be released then as opposed to three days earlier. New Year's Day does fall on a Sunday, therefore there is a chance that many stores will be closed due to a combination of a Sunday and a holiday. Last year, I bought the Brick Bank on January 1st, but it was not a Sunday. Typically, new sets will debut on S@H somewhere around local time midnight on January 1. They debut in the Lego stores typically the same day. If this is indeed a really expensive set, and the news does not debut until November as suggested, then I am led to believe that we will not see this at the beginning of January. Knowledge of what is coming out will enable people to make some choices and save the money needed to buy the set. Also, many of us are fairly financially exhausted since we just made it through Christmas. Sure I may get some gift certificates, but certainly not enough to cover something in the 300's range, especially if I have only known about it for a month. -
Very nice and eclectic!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
If this was indeed a 10th Anniversary Celebration modular with a $2,699 price tag, I doubt many of us will make it to that party. I might have to choose in favor of the Roth IRA instead. If this is a legitimate rumor, it would probably be in Kroner, which would still make it an expensive set at the conversion rates. Therefore, this had better be worth it. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
To me, the "square" itself would be an open space, either a park like structure or a concrete/stone area surrounded by buildings. A square by itself does not sound interesting as it would be trees, benches, concrete, maybe statues and a fountain. I probably would not be interested in that alone as a "modular" unless it had something like Chicago's Buckingham fountain. If there is going to be a 10th anniversary special, I would expect a large building and an adjacent area that is the actual square. "Assembly" makes me think of either a military parade ground or something like a parliament building--two entirely different things. Indeed it is just a rumor, but an interesting one. -
21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V (LEGO Ideas)
AFOLguy1970 replied to Blondie-Wan's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I cannot see them modifying the height too much. To do so significantly would require using entirely different parts to achieve the smaller scale, which would in turn make it a completely different project. If anything is modified, it would be something in order to keep it structurally sound. It will be tall, but it will also be slender, so it will not be as large scale and expensive as Disney Castle, Orthanc, or other big and tall sets. As for release date, I do not think they would delay all of the way to 2019 to coincide with the 50th anniversary. If anything, that would hopefully encourage Lego to give it multiple production runs to extend the sales into that time frame. That would certainly help avoid a repeat of the Mars Rover, Research Institute debacle. Of course, I am not taking any chances and will order it within minutes of it becoming available. -
LEGO Ideas Discussion

Yep, the Saturn V is why I am saving VIP points. I anxiously await the release date and the price in order to be prepared. Not only will it be the tallest Ideas set, but it is safe to say it will also be the priciest. Death Star can wait, but this, not so much. -
372 according to Brickset in addition to several more from BAM bins and miscellaneous stuff

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Sounds like fun, but considering how the DO was all about "cookie prohibition", I doubt that gambling would make its way into a modular. It would be interesting to see how minibuilds could be done for slot machines, blackjack tables, craps, and the roulette wheel. It looks like Lego did a really good job of keeping the new modular identity a secret. So far, no one on any forum seems to know what it is, or at least they cannot say anything at this time. -
I remember a few sets here and there being on sale. There was nothing that really caught my eye. The sets tended to be among those not in particularly high demand.

It used to be that you had to be a big spender to get in. Also at that time, there were more freebies including a PAB box, keychains, sets, etc.. Now, the advantage is mainly one hour in the store before it opens to everyone else. The deals outlined in the calendar will still apply. I am told that participating in the minibuilds, Lego Club meetings, completing surveys, and other things factor in as well. Last year was the first time I was invited, and it certainly was not the biggest spending year I had.

The time will soon come for the invites to be given for select VIP members to go into Lego Stores an hour early before anyone else (assuming they continue that tradition). This normally is the Saturday before Black Friday, making it November 20 for this year. Since that is a double points day, hopefully we will get the invite again. I can see at least buying enough to get the snowglobe.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Probably not a travel agency simply for the fact that there is not much of a storyline you could get from that. What more could you have than a minifig coming in to buy a printed tile from another minifig that represents the travel package? No secret passages, no candy barrels, no wedding proposal, etc. Plus, if you had a travel agency, you would need some travel posters. Considering the grief that Palace Cinema got from the sticker sheet for movie posters, I doubt Lego would want to revisit that again. -
The LEGO Group takes civil actions against LEPIN
AFOLguy1970 replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Perhaps it is the production of sets that are still current that is the last straw to break the camel's back. That would mean sets like Cinderella's Castle, Brick Bank, and the Ghostbusters HQ because they are the ones most in direct competition with Lego. I cannot see the knockoffs of the retired ones near as harmful because Lego simply does not sell them anymore. I am not saying that it is any less wrong to copy something not currently in production, just that it probably does not have as much an impact on the bottom line. With a year to go until the decision, that will give Lepin plenty of time to sell sets (as MAB indicated) even if the court does rule against them. Lepin's target market appears to be AFOLS and TFOLS who either missed out on previous sets or simply cannot afford the current ones. They are producing modulars, UCS sets, and the more expensive popular sets like the Ninjago temple and the Haunted House. I am somewhat surprised they have not tried to bring back some of the old Classic Space or Castle sets--that would really make things interesting. -
I also lost some posts, kind of makes me wonder if anyone got "demoted" to a lower rank as a result of it.

In addition to the cheese slopes, minifigure torsos, and 1x1's that have cracked for no other reason than existing, the minifig handcuff accessory seems weak at the thin part, especially when placing it on/off a minifigure

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Oct 11 was the actual reveal for the Brick Bank, but the fact that it was a bank plus a few details about leaked ahead of that time. That means we should be finding out something very quickly assuming they are on the same timeline for the release of the next modular. -
Winter Holiday Train 10254 Powerfunctions elements
AFOLguy1970 replied to jamzee's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Last time I was in Dallas, I saw a small box labelled "Power Functions" on a shelf. At the time, I did not need any of them, so I did not look in the box. Just watched Jang's video with the PF installed. The battery box and receiver are definitely visible. It will not stop me from buying the train and PF, but hopefully there is a mod that can be done to at least cover the top of the battery box with round black 2x2 plates to at least give it a look of coal instead of just the exposed top of the battery box. -
Winter Holiday Train 10254 Powerfunctions elements

FYI, as of today (9/17), all four power function elements are on backorder on the S@H site -
Very nice scene for exploring details, well done!

Excellent, especially for a first modular. I like the cluttered appearance of the artist studio. that is exactly what I imagine an artist's space to look like. The tile on the lower floor is also interesting. Some very nice details inside and out with your design. Hope to see more modular MOCs in the future!
