Thats not much... Because Lego is a hobby and I'm sure that Mr. Phes enjoyed building this raft (he even plays with it in his bath :-D ), I'll give it 10/10 :-P !

I'm not a big fan, but I have some of the albums. When I was younger I used to watch the TV series based on the albums.

A big improvement Brickminer! I have to get a bit used to the new font.

LIBRARY: Pirate Torso/Decal/Sticker Designs
Bonaparte replied to Bonaparte's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Thanks! That a very useful website! You're right, but most of these uniforms are made by individual users so sometimes colors are not correct. So most of the time I alter them a bit if I plan to use a certain uniform. Did you already try to make some torso's? Have anything to show? Very nice designs Sir Norrington! They are now part of the library. It think is is best to do the resize after downloading in order not to lose quality. Maybe you can use a modified version the batch image resize tutorial of Mr. Phes? -
I'm going to see the film again (maybe tonight) to take a better look at the Archeron. But I'll try to make it as authentic as possible. When I order the plates for the deck I'll try to get some of those special pieces for extending the masts and do some experiments. I'm still not happy with the current masts. The final sails would be preferable in canvas, but I'll make some initial ones in paper (also to experiment a bit). It will be more like the Archeron it think. Good Lord no, I would rather die than to put this flag on the ship :-D This was the French royal standard until the French Revolution (followed by the Napoleonic period), when it was replaced by the tricolor of modern-day France.

Mr. P is correct! The original name of the HMS Surprise was L'Unite. Some details from wiki: HMS Surprise (1794) was a sixth-rate frigate of the Royal Navy. Originally a French corvette armed with 24 9lb long guns named L'Unite, she was designed by M. Forfait and was built at Le Havre. Captured in 1796 by HMS Inconstant. L'Unite was converted by the British into a 28-gun sixth-rate, carrying 24 32lb carronades on her main deck, eight more of the same on her quarter deck and forecastle, as well as 4 6lb long guns as chasers. HMS Surprise is also the ship chosen by author Patrick O'Brian as the ship that would provide Captain Lucky Jack Aubrey of the Aubrey-Maturin series to his step as a Captain, and eventually see him to raise his flag as an Admiral of the Royal Navy. Good question. I guess it will be something like this:

I don't recall ever seeing an image of a frigate from the period 1750-1815 with decorated sails. Or maybe you guys have an example of such a ship? I'm basing a lot of the design of L'Orient on the HMS Rose:

This proves that a ship doesn't have to be big to look great. Very original sails! Haven't seen this done before. They are attached with a nice technique... The ship is well build and the colors are also a nice combination.
-
Good idea Mr. Phes! Thanks! I will first make all the sails in normal paper until I'm happy with the form and size. I don't plan to have any insignia on the sails, since this was not typically done for this kind of ships. Thanks for all the suggestions Mr. P ;-) I never noticed your Junk :-$, but I'm going there now to give you my feedback!

An Imperial Armada MOC - there should be more!
Bonaparte replied to Mister Phes's topic in Pirate MOCs
A nice Imperial Armada MOC. We haven't seen many lately... I would like the minifigs better if they would have the chrome armor. Since I don't have any of the Imperial Armada sets, don't count on me to make an imperial MOC. -
TUTORIAL: Creating Clickable Thumbnails

Very nice to see all these great tutorials grouped in 1 thread *y* ! -
It would be great to see an overview of the ships before I decide which one is my favorite... But when the question is just "what is your favourite lego ship of all time?", then I take this one :-P :

I think you're right about the bowsprit. I'm still looking at some pictures of ships (real and Lego) including yours to see how the masts/bowsprit/sails/rigging should look. The jibboom, is that a way to make the bowsprit longer? Is this at the end of the bowsprit? What was its purpose? Here is a picture I found: The sails will be customs, but I have no idea yet on how to make them. I have to start looking for some paper or canvas. Since this is my first MOC in a veeery long time and even my first sailing ship, I have to do a lot of experimenting. Probably it will all be much easier when I start my next ship :)

Another posiblitity can be seen on this ship (click on the thumb for the brickshelf-library):

Thanks Z. A good story is always important. I agree that you should continue the story you started with the Arbiter II. I might use this uniform for the Lieutenants: It is also part of the The great pirate torso LIBRARY but I might do some redesign first.

You don't seem much of a talker ;-) Welcome here!

Dido and Faithless - One step too far

That's always the problem with these UCS sets... And looking at how this ship is build, it doesn't look very easy to "add" an interior.

Very nice ship! I would also be interested in more detailed pics of the masts and the rigging Captain K. My only remark on this ship is that you should make the hull wider by using some inverted slopes. Especially for a ship of this length. This was also done on the ship of Kurt that you are mentioned. Here is a clickable thumb to illustrate:

The French frigate L'Orient: Work in progress Two years ago, the British admiralty placed an order for the construction of a sixth-rate frigate with a U.S. based Swedish constructor. The ship was named HMS Excalibur. However, because of some political problems between the U.S. and the British government regarding slavery, the U.S. government has forbidden the delivery of the ship to the English. The constructor then approached the French ambassador to ask if the French Empire would be interested in buying the ship. Napoleon was very happy with this opportunity and accepted the offer. One of the most experienced French captains was appointed commander and send to the U.S. to assist in the completion of the Frigate that was renamed L'Orient. Commander Gabriel de La Croix. Upon his arrival in the U.S., the commander found the ship with its hull nearly completed and the masts and rigging under construction. This is the story of the completion of the French frigate L'Orient and of its commander Gabriel de La Croix. Here are some pictures of L'Orient, still under construction: In "Warship Excalibur under construction" you can read the story of the construction of the hull.
