  1. I have heard the term "chasers" before, so you're probably right. So we still don't know what "runners" are... I'm using the royal navy ranking system to classify ships. I like this ranking system a lot because it classifies the Excalibur a 6th rate frigate :) .
  2. A very useful index xwingyoda, fast way of getting an overview of all the Star Wars stuff!
  3. This is really a great new set. I decided not to buy any more Star Wars sets some time ago and focus on pirates (and castle) instead. But a set like this would be on top of my list if I was still collecting Star Wars. I like the craft and the details (bombs, missiles) and it has a great number of highly wanted minifigs. Btw, nice review ;-)
  4. Some good suggestions Mr. Phred. I'm gonna search if I have these 2x3 wedges (still have many boxes with unsorted bricks) or I will buy some to do some experimenting Can you explain me what runners are? Are these cannon that are positioned in the stern or bow of the ship and that are shooting to the front and the back (and not to the side)? I can't find any good info on wiki or google. Tonight I plan to add some more cannons in the bow section. If I add 2 more guns, the Excalibur can be classified as a frigate, which sounds a lot better than sloop-of-war.
  5. I don't really mind having to do a major rebuild of parts of my ship/MOC. As long as the result is better it's worth the effort (and I don't put any time pressure on myself while buiding). But once a MOC is finished, I start on something new and I won't do any more changes.
  6. If I use the wikipedia definition, you are right: A port is a facility for receiving ships and transferring cargo to and from them. The pier can be seen as the "facility". I have moved it to the harbor section.
  7. Maybe you guys are right. The ship that I'm building has only 2 studs between the guns, now I start thinking of making it 3 studs. But this would mean I have to to add another hull section to keep the same number of guns 8-|
  8. You do? It's a town near the sea with a beach and cliffs. But I see no harbor here. Why would you put it in the harbor section Mr. Tiber? Because of the pier?
  9. Soul Asylum - Somebody to shove
  10. A very nice house indeed. I like the garden and all those details. The colors are also very well chosen.
  11. I have categorized the MOCs. I still didn't remove the numbers because maybe someone thinks a MOC is not in the right place (so I is the easiest to let me know which number should be moved to where). Of course there can be some discussion for certain MOCs, but I tried to be as consistent as possible.
  12. I think Napoleon wanted a Europian Union but it would have been slightly different than the current EU X-D .
  13. Personally I'm not against having only 2 studs between the gun ports. If you would like to get a reasonable number of canons on a ship and use the standard Lego hull pieces (which are rather narrow), you have to put the guns closer together.
  14. It might be interesting to comparte the 2 Lego versions of Torre de Bel
  15. Since the index is still under construction, I have not yet categorized the MOCs. The current numbering is reflecting the order in which I search the forum. So at this moment there is no rationale behind the order. As a result of some discussing in this thread, I'm thinking of using following categories: - Military - Non-Military - Islands - Harbors - Vignettes/dioramas - Small accessories (canons and stuff like that). The first 2 categories can handle everything that's not covered by the rest. Any suggestions?
  16. I was planning to have the numbers removed once the MOCs are classified. They are only added to make it easier to get things organized. You might be right that some people are not able to use the search function. But probably those people won't understand the concept of the 2 links. Problem then still remains that several MOCs are in multiple discussion-threads. If there is really a big need for something like this, I will investigate once the classification is finished. I'm not really keep on the Comic Sans. I was just using it to make it clear that the tutorial was a separate part. I have changed it to Arial for the moment. Is there another font that would look good and is readable at high resolutions?
  17. I have been making some more changes on the stern and it starting to look better now... What do you guys think about the color of the gun-ports? I'm starting to think that it would be better if they were black in stead of red.
  18. I'm currently struggling a lot with color-schemes myself since I'm working quite intensively on my new frigate "Excalibur". So I know that this is not an easy part. I'm using a program like paint shop pro to make some quick color changes to get some idea on the result before I change it on the actual ship.
  19. This is turning out to be a very nice ship Mr. Z. I would only change 1 thing: change the grey at the stern into black. I know that Norro already made a comment on the usage of grey. And the other grey in the ship is not bothering me, only at the stern it seems a bit to much.
  20. The third option seems best to me. This way its also streamlined with the other pinned topics which also have a separate discussion thread.
  21. Here is the original brickshelf gallery: Torre de Belem brickshelf gallery Who can add this to the first post :-D ? Maybe it would also be better to change the name of this thread to Torre de Bellem? Btw, the builder is an active member of this forum: LBaixinho
  22. You are right about the stern being too square. I made some modifications according to your recommendation. What do you think about this? Let me know if you have any thoughts Mr. Tiber. Your ideas are much appreciated. I plan to replace the lowest 1x3 slope with a red version (already ordered some, since I don't have them). However, I made a quick adaptation to show the result: Side view with the modifications:
  23. I like this kind of people, expecially when I'm the one acquiring their collection :-D Everyone has this problem from time to time, its all a matter of having some good inspiration sources to get started again. For me, a movie is often a good source of inspiration for a new MOC. When I'm building a sailing ship, I try to see as many pirate/navy movies as possible to keep the inspiration coming and my fantasy working at optimal levels. But I have to agree that something changes with the human brain when you get older (maybe that's called "growing up"), but you have to fight against it.
  24. I'm using Corel Paint Shop Pro X to try small differences in the color scheme. Very useful and its a lot faster than changing the bricks. From the 3 pictures in my previous post, the 2nd is the original. Nr 1 and 3 are changed with PSP. After seeing the result, I changed the actual colours according to picture nr 1.
  25. Nice job Mr. Phes! These tutorials are very useful! I would propose to combine them with the "TUTORIAL: How to perform a batch image resize" in the same thread. So we have all the tutorials in different posts in 1 thread inorder to avoid too many pinned topics. What do you think?
