  1. [bUMP] sine35video posted this of a "LEGO Gear Reduction for a Small Clock Face". It shows how "A worm gear massively simplifies clock gear reduction for a simple two-handed case like this, totalling 5 gears. The worm to 20 tooth gear generates a 1/20 reduction, then the 8 tooth to 24 tooth on the differential is another 1/3 reduction, giving 1/60. The differential allows the main axle to run through to the large hand whilst constraining the small hand in position in the middle."
  2. Do you have lots of spare 2780 "Technic, Pin with Friction Ridges Lengthwise WITH Center Slots"? If so, you could replicate LosashExote's Lego Technic TUBES/ CYLINDERS shown on this :
  3. wotdim posted this of the 42006 Excavator in action:
  4. @ Seluryar: Can you post your LDD .lxf file somewhere, so that we may try to replicate your problem?
  5. Let's move discussion over to this new topic -- "FINAL 10 of 2012 Lego Technic Competition -- VOTE NOW".
  6. Make Your 2012 Lego Technic Competition Final Choice Side-by-side (in no particular order), here are the "THE 10 FINALISTS! -- Vote now! You can only vote once, so take your time". All of the pictures that The Lego Group posted are reprinted below for posterity. Voting ends at 23:59 on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 Central European Time (CET). Although it has no bearing in TLG's official voting, this Eurobricks Poll will record your private vote on what we Technic Adult Fans of Lego (AFOLs) prefer on this Forum. There may be a difference between what the AFOLs here like, and what the public at large like (on the official Lego website). * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ** * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * hellraiserrocky's Loghead 4x4 Crawler -- http://technic.us.lego.com/en-us/Creations/Details/Default.aspx?tv=1&projectid=0fdd5061-e0a8-4223-bb41-a8d572da36e2 : rm88's The Boss -- http://technic.us.lego.com/en-us/Creations/Details/Default.aspx?tv=1&projectid=f30360f6-1b79-43b5-9c24-b1f987f4f31f : idkwhoyouare's Technic Truck -- http://technic.us.lego.com/en-us/Creations/Details/Default.aspx?tv=1&projectid=04d6db76-5deb-4864-82a9-26858492beac : hrontos' Quad Bike (MOVIE and LDD .lxf ) -- http://technic.us.lego.com/en-us/Creations/Details/Default.aspx?tv=1&projectid=46f0492e-482b-40fc-9a18-0e8c6a4fdfbc : MarkusOSX's blue-and-white offroader -- http://technic.us.lego.com/en-us/Creations/Details/Default.aspx?tv=1&projectid=fb20f699-d240-458f-bdc3-e5385cf31410 : LEGOfyn11's black-and-red offroader (MOVIE) -- http://technic.us.lego.com/en-us/Creations/Details/Default.aspx?tv=1&projectid=a5c0d659-42f2-417b-a6de-dac0ab5c13c2 : megil07's lime-green offroader -- http://technic.us.lego.com/en-us/Creations/Details/Default.aspx?tv=1&projectid=b137f777-0680-4045-9cd5-4bbd10663491 : crazy1993's Highway Enforcer -- http://technic.us.lego.com/en-us/Creations/Details/Default.aspx?tv=1&projectid=55c0d1ff-164f-45c0-acd3-ee505589245b : techniccustom's red-and-black offroader -- http://technic.us.lego.com/en-us/Creations/Details/Default.aspx?tv=1&projectid=9c63b76c-a76a-45c9-9782-7b2ca71682d7 : technicsupercars' yellow offroader -- http://technic.us.lego.com/en-us/Creations/Details/Default.aspx?tv=1&projectid=e03fcb89-8fe4-42e2-b62b-6bf377917e90 :
  7. S2013LasVegas posted this YouTube video of "Lego's third-generation Mindstorms kit [that] has been redesigned to appeal to both kids desperate to craft and modders looking for even more customizability. With assembly instructions now provided by a 3D animated diagram on an iPad app, this isn't the Lego you'll have remember from childhood. If you'd like to see what it's like in action, head on past the break to watch the video. "The company has worked towards building devices that have "personality" and the demonstration model that we played with certainly had that in spades. We waved our hands in front of a hissing snake and watched with amusement as it wiggled and snapped at our fingers. It made the 12-year-old in all of us giggle with a level of enthusiasm we shouldn't have displayed in public. Suffice to say, we can't wait to spend more time with this device when it launches around August, when it'll set us back around $350. via engadget." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXQaTwaPjOA ... TechCrunch posted this -- "Lego unveiled the updated LEGO Mindstorms EV3 that now runs of Linux firmware thats compatible with both Android or iOS. The platform allows for much more programming on the core Intelligent Brick and is therefore more hackable. It even includes an SD card for storage. There is a built-in infrared sensor that facilitates a more autonomous design. Lego posits that EV3 can follow other moving gadgets and their creators. It also comoes with its own 3D construction guide."
  8. @ legolijntje: I used the POV-Ray "Help" button to look up "Copy Pane", and found this information: "The Edit Menu contains commands relating to altering, cutting, copying, and pasting text. Note that there are actually two edit menus, though you only ever see one at a time. These are the edit menu that is displayed when the message window is selected, and the edit menu that is displayed when any of the editor windows are selected. The contents are different since the windows have different functions." "1.5.2.1 Copy Pane This command lets you copy all the text currently displayed in the POV-Ray window to the clipboard. From there you can paste it into any text file for modification with a text editor or word processor. This can be particularly useful for bug reporting. Note: This command only appears if the currently selected window is the Messages window."
  9. Mahjqa invented the name of his "Stilzkin" brand of bridge launchers, since it sounds cool!
  10. @ Blakbird: Well, you could propose this at your workplace.... You're being very quiet about this topic. @ Zblj: Is it possible to design two pairs of 4-bladed rotors that are geared so that the counter-rotate on different shafts, but which are powered by ONE RC motor?
  11. Part 2 of the two-part TechnicBRICKS interview with Jennifer Clark is posted.
  12. @ Zblj: It's good to see that the 9 ea. 89509 "Propeller 1 Blade 14L with Two Pin Holes and Four Axles" arrived in the mail. Perhaps a Chinook helicopter setup (with two, counter-rotating sets of 4 blades) would stable and balanced:
  13. @ Mike K: You can download Lego Digital Designer (LDD) at Ldd.Lego.com . You can order bricks from Bricklink.com ("The Unofficial Lego Marketplace") -- go to the Bricklink New User Tutorial to see how it works. You may enjoy Rebrickable.com -- they have quite a few "MOCs" (My Own Creations), with Parts Lists.
  14. Hmmm, I never knew there were two box designs. I bought my 8043 early on (before the Linear Actuator fiasco), but I had Box Version #2 above, and it definitely did not have the v2 Power Functions Receiver.
  15. Yes, but there often are a few quick "snapshot"-type spy photos that are taken anyway, like this one from February 2012:
  16. The computers are rebelling against their masters!
  17. I bet if you re-rendered it at a higher resolution, the white pixels would be gone....
  18. @ ZueriHB: What kind of hardware are you using when getting those white pixels? What are your POV-Ray resolution settings?
  19. @ Phoxtane: You could reduce the friction and stickiness by getting a can of CRC Heavy Duty Silicone Multi-Use Lubricant from your local auto supply store. It "Stops Sticking, Binding, Squeaking on Nylon, Rubber, Metal & Non-Metal Surfaces." It does not "eat" the ABS plastic Lego parts. Any silicone-based spray lubricant (not WD-40) will work too.
  20. @ Sariel: The extra explanatory notes you placed on your Parts List are very helpful! Thanks!
  21. TechniBRICKS is still working in Spokane, Washington USA. You're not missing anything -- the latest post is still from Thursday, January 3 and is about the "Week TechVideo, 2013 #01 - Automatic Axle Sorter ".
  22. @ Crist Clapper: I downloaded your photos of your "Delilah" (the beautiful, restored 1990 Jeep Grand Wagoneer) for the Lego modeling project, and resized them to 800x600 images:
  23. Would it help to empty your "Browsing History" file (from your "Temp" directory), and then try to access TechnicBricks.com ?
