  1. mblochu12 posted these two YouTube videos (one of the , and one of the ) for the 1H2013 Lego Technic 42007 Moto Cross Bike set:
  2. @ bbqqq: Cool illusion! I wonder if LDD2Povray (and POV-Ray) could handle a Lego Moire Pattern, like this one:
  3. It's interesting to compare the alternate Lego Technic 9398 models made by Jovel ( ) and efferman ( ), side-by-side:
  4. @ rm8: Here are a few questions about your "The Boss" model: 1. Did you have to mail your model to The Lego Group for them to see how it is built? Or, did you take multiple photographs of your model and mail it to them instead? 2. Which Lego Technic Designers are you working with? Is Grohl (Milan Reindl) one of them? 3. Do they prohibit you from publicly discussing the set with others? 4. Are the Lego Technic Designers sending ideas back-and-forth, or did they get your inputs and will now proceed without you?
  5. @ Gene & rm8 (Egor Karshiev): On The Lego Group's webpage http://technic.us.lego.com/en-us/Creations/Default.aspx , you can see that the online VOTING mechanism has not been "turned off" so it is not possible anymore to determine how many votes each COMPLIANT entry received when the competition's first phase ended (at midnight December 31, 2012 Central European Time). Heck, I just voted for a model submitted on December 31st to test this out -- it accepted my vote. There are (late) entries on that webpage that were submitted AFTER the first phase ended, and they are racking up votes too.
  6. I would say Yes (since the box DOES say "Mindstorms" on it). However, the 9748 Lego Droid Developer Kit uses the 32344c01 "White Micro Scout with Dark Gray Base" instead of the more-capable RCX, NXT, or (upcoming) EV3 intelligent brick. It's kind of like a "Mindstorms-light" kind of device.
  7. OK, I added another Poll choice to Question #2 that says "I did not answer "Yes" to Question #1."
  8. Jovel recently wrote to me and asked: "I am big Technic fan. I love sets with lots of functions and all those kind of things. Of course, I also love Power Functions parts and especially Lego Mindstorms motors. But my main problem with Mindstorms is, it's too expensive (at least for what you get) -- only a few motors and some Liftarms, axles, and pins which I already own more than enough. So, I definitely won't buy two Mindstorms sets just for the NXT motors and sensors. "So I was wondering if I am the only one with this opinion; I think there are more! Are there more "normal Technic builders" that would buy Mindstorms if it were less expensive?" Please add your thoughts and comments below.
  9. If it costs £79.99 in the UK (per Brickset), that equates to USD $126.71 so I'm guessing that the USA Lego Store price is going to be $129.99. If Toys-R-Us has traditionally "marked up" the Lego Store price by $10, that would follow the pattern....
  10. @ Calabar: Yes, that's true but how do you integrate the cross members of the roof rack? There are two raised chrome bars running along the sides of the roof, and other (lower) roof rack parts going across the roof. How does one make these ski-pole-like bars look like a roof rack? Should I use the little clips shown below? The existing roof rack cross-members are 9L, so it's hard to use 12L bars in both directions....
  11. @ rm8: Congratulations again! Since you have the envious honor of having your Lego set produced as an official model (like the Lego Architecture set below), maybe your name will appear on the box (like Adam Reed Tucker's name below). Could you tell us your real name now? I don't know if you want to be known as rm8 / rm88 forever....
  12. @ vynsane: I tried your suggestions, but those parts really don't work in this case. The "bars" you suggested are too long, and the clip cannot support the rear window air deflector at such a steep angle: Here's what the model looks like now. It has an opening hood, working V4 engine, folding seats, and operable tailgate which swings down:

  17. madoca1977 posted video Building Instructions for his small Lego Technic Supercar which uses two Power Functions M-motors. It's his "first MOC". : :
  18. Virtual Technic Models uses software to create MOVEMENT -- see this of what is possible (link to more Virtual Technic Models videos):

  20. Here is the underside of the Fleet-Footed Insect according to fourlord's LDD .lxf Building Instruction file. Perhaps each person interprets the underside differently, but it is not important as long as the insect crawls the same way! I added the rubber 1x2 liftarms on the outermost legs to get it to walk on smooth surfaces better.
  21. @ dhc6twinotter: I see the 8878 Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box is available for USD $49.99 on this Shop.Lego.com webpage. I don't see it "on sale" (at a discounted price) either.
  22. Here are the final vote tallies for the 2012 Lego Technic Competition (captured for posterity just as TLG's official voting webpage closed at midnight CET, January 22, 2013):
