I'm going to sound very (very) harsh, but the locomotive was badly designed. The carriages look 'ok' .

Love the DSB version from the iconic VT11.5 . Great adaptation from Holger's creation (I have the 'non LEGO version myself' - I'm sure you know which one I mean), but there's something beautiful about 7 wide trains. Next time you have the change, take some extra pictures to share with this bunch of train-freaks :).
-
Wow, amazing creation! Well done. Do you some more pictures? That train looks so tiny compared to the station, awesome!
-
That's when it all changed ;) . In the 80s you had 7740 and 7745 as 'main sets', same with the metroliner at the beginning of the 9V era.
-
Remember the days when passenger trains were the main set instead of freight trains... ? The 7740 in the 80s and the metroliner during the early 90s were amazing sets. Small freight trains with a shunter loco (3 or 2 axle) would be a nice change and cost effective compared to the large freight trains they have now.

Thanks for the review (had seen a few on youtube). Also in favour of a BB thread. Many third parties have a dedicated thread, so I see no problem in discussing BB on here...

Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion
*thomas* replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Lot's of instant buys for me (which hasn't happened in a long time). Crane is a remake of this gorgeous set: [ -
Every AFOL has other demands, but the one thing LEGO is lacking is consistency AND volume.
-
This is turning into a 'fanboy' thread. In our heart, all we want is LEGO to come up with cool train system like they had back in the 80s and early 90s. But LEGO hasn't come trough in the last 15 years and chances are slim they will in years to come. So, it's normal that people are looking at other options, like BB (but there is also habricks, blokbricks and some others). I do find it sad that people can not accept this. Look at it this way: if BB to name one can design and release nice sets in a short time frame, why won't LEGO do the same? And I'm sure we all like building and designing stuff and for a long time, LEGO has been our number one source. I once remember a time when alfa romeos would 'rust away in the brochure', things change...
-
So in this case Lego thinks they could make more profit from this then if they would've just made it into a proper 6 wide train set (w/o track and PU?).
-
It's not about the train being bad, neither are people complaining about it being it creator set. But, why would TLG be so reluctant to make it: A 6 wide B include train wheels, magnets and buffers If they were worried about in-house competition, they just should've designed something else. Tracks can be bought separately, so that's no issue.
-
I think it will be - once more - a cargo train with crane and/or an other building and a passenger train with a small platform. How could would it be if Lego (for once) would 'invert' this and give us a full-on passenger train WITH station and a smaller freight train.
-
How can anyone at TLG think this is a good idea? As has been said: why not make it 6 wide? It would be a nice little extra 'inbetween' city trains and could be sold w/o track/PU because it's sold as a creator set. As many have said: bluebrixx has 238 train sets. They continue to release new designs almost at a monthly basis so someone must be being them. Like many others, I've stopped looking at TLG for their trains.

Would be nice to see a passenger train with doors like in the good old days. My 3 year old son who sometimes plays with my older train sets loves putting people inside the carriages w/o having to detach the roof... And, I know DMU's and EMU's are becoming the norm, a nice passanger train with a loco and 2 carriages would be nice. This hasn't been released since the 7740 in the 80s, still many countries use them. But frankly, these past few years, I don't care as much as I used to. If LEGO doesn't make something appealing, I'll build it myself or find other ways.
-
You could also use bricklink or pick a brick (?) to order the parts for a second, motorless bogie...
-
Funny, I'm in the proces of getting my 3 year old son into LEGO trains. He's already a huge train fan and I just converted my old 7745 12v train to RC (yes, with the much hated RC baseplate). I choose the 7745 because I didn't want to buy him a new train (he needs to learn and appreciated 'used' stuff) and because it's a very sturdy train with opening doors. I never understood why so many parents/AFOLs complained about trains w/o doors, but seeing how my son enjoys 'cramming' minifigs inside the wagons trough the doors made me understand what 'play-factor' is al about. Keep us posted when you have new creations to make lego trains even more child friendly, this on already looks very good.

You can't compare trains to 'motorcycles'. Trains have been a part of LEGOs history since the beginning, motorcycles did/do not.

Behold, the 2022 city line-up ! Well done. Change the colors to white and orange, and you have yourself the new coastguard theme ;) .

Lego City 2021 Rumours, information and discussion
*thomas* replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Because LEGO is not just city. And on a forum, I'm free to have (and share) my personal opinion, otherwise this wouldn't be called a forum. I really dislike the way LEGO is taking city these last couple of years. I'm a 90s kid, and LEGO made some bad decisions back then (esp after 1996). 10 years ago, LEGO made some great city sets that depicted the real world (farm, harbour etc). Even last year they gave us an amazing safari offroader. The contrast between that and the new safari line couldn't be bigger. They don't complement eachother. -

I have to agree. The animals look like they ran away from a duplo theme and the sets do have a 'junior' feel. Maybe i'm getting old, but I just don't get it why LEGO never manages to do things right. Yes, themes in the past had their flaws, now the set is just one big mistake. -

Why is it so difficult for LEGO to depict the real world we live in? I don't care about all those action packed sets (and couldn't care for them as a kid). -
LEGO Ideas Comes Through - The Train Station: Studgate
*thomas* replied to Feuer Zug's topic in LEGO Train Tech
In the 80s, 12V trains had this geometry. It's not that it wouldn't work, it will just need some good timing and avoid trains passing each other on this stretch of track. -
Increasingly losing patience with Lego

I agree with you, Pendra, but apart from Marklin many other brands exist to choose from. Furthermore, I think you can change wheels on rolling stock, not?
