  6. Second Quarter Free Build Registration March 1st 2014 to October 1st, 2014 (Book II, Quarter 2) This topic will lock on October 18th, 2014 What is this thread? This is the thread where YOU register your free build if you wish it to be scored for your guild. Why are you doing this to us? Despite Rogueang’s wonderful MOC index, the guilds project has become quite large. The core leaders feel that we need a self-indexing mechanism that will allow us to grade free builds more efficiently. This is what we have come up with. What do I need to do? Just simply write the following information In a NEW post: Name of Moc with link to the thread | Name of Builder | Guild you belong to IE: Obsidian Spike |ZCerberus | Nocturnus Do not write anything else. What counts as a “Free Build?” Great question! Any GOH build that was not entered in one of the official main challenges. All free builds must have their own thread, and there must be a link to that thread provided here. Do not comment on builds in this thread, please do that on the MOC’s own thread. Can I just post in my guild thread and leave it at that? Whereas you are welcome to do so, if the build does not make it into the index , it will not be scored. Can I put up an entry for another guild member's build? If that builder has disappeared and we are getting near the deadline, this would be allowed.
  7. No guild colors are blue and yellow, and besides, your ship can be painted anyway you would like and still represent your guild. That is why all of the warships for Avalonia are pink with flags made of tights. On a completely random note, Blue and Yellow are the colors of the City of Queenscross... but that isn't important here.
  8. I like the administrative building, very epic. Damn those Drow... I heard they rule supreme?
  9. Yes, that is fine. I will talk to Kabel, we will decide how much historical accuracy we believe should be in play for judging reasons. Hammerhand's ship would be on the larger side of things... Only the really ornate (barely seaworthy) great ships would have been any bigger. As for small ships v. large ships, I think quality will be the highest category in our judging.
  10. Yes, any ship built in the last month is eligible (Since Feb 1st.)
  11. I would say yes, but by the due date you must let us know which ship you want considered as your best Warship or merchant marine for judging purposes, if you had more than one boat in each category. You could theoretically win both categories. Also, additional ships may help sway the vote (although we judges will only consider one ship from each applicant per category)
  12. Ok, a few things. 1: new contest 2: I know I have to set up the old contest voting thread, I hope to do that this week because I won't be able to build. 3: I may be out of touch for a week because I have a research trip, but I suspect I will be bored at night and come here to see what is going on.
  13. With the chaos brought on by the end of the Revolword War and the Nocturnan Civil War, Historica remains on edge. Recent actions by Kaliphlin and Mitgardian Privateers and sea forces have led to a stand off between the once great allies. Both sides have begun repairing their old ships, and building new vessels for what some see as an inevitable endgame: WAR! The Challenge: Build a ship for your side. It should fit into either one of the following categories: Warship or Merchant Marine. Warship - These are ships designed for war -- fighting platforms, privateer or corsairs, Medieval pirate ships, war cogs, early war caravels, galleys, biremes, triremes, etc... Merchant Marine - These would be ships that primarily engage in trade, but have a means of defending themselves. In a pinch they could be called into a naval battle. A caveat -- Guns, and cannon even more so, are quite rare in Historica. They also are dangerous on a ship because of their instability. A ship probably would not carry a cannon during this period, and if it did, most likely no more than one. You should also take into consideration that medieval ships looked fairly different from the ships of the pirate era. So even though Historica is a fantasy world, we still would like to see at least a certain degree of historical accuracy. (Think Game of Thrones) A summary about ship building in the Middle Ages can be found here. Prizes: New tags have been created for the winners. Titles: The member of each side with the best warship (decided by judges) will gain the title Admiral of (Guild) Fleet. The runner up will become a Vice Admiral, and the third place will become a Rear Admiral. She/he with the best Merchant Marine ship will become Admiral of the Marine. (titles subject to change). The Contest will last until 5/31/14 anywhere in the world. The winning side will be determined by a vote amongst Avalonian and Nocturnan members of GoH. For Avalonian and Nocturnan folks -- The contest for you is similar. With your neighbors arming themselves, now is the time to prepare your own fleets! Who knows what may happen tomorrow. Avalonian Categories: Ship of the Isles - These are light and fast ships, meant to protect the many small channels in between each of the hundreds of islands that make up the region. They sometimes participate in trade, but their main duty is to cruise the channels looking for illegal activities and protecting the peoples of the region. Warship - See Above. Nocturnan Categories: Swamp Boat - Powered by oars, slaves, undead propellers, the souls of children, etc... these small crafts are used in the many swamps of Nocturnus. When the local lords fight, often pitched naval battles happen in the desolate swamps of the region. Warship - see above Prizes: TBA Titles: TBA Kaliphlin and Mitgaridan members will decide which side won between the two of your guilds. ------ All builds should have their own thread, along with a post in this thread with a link to the dedicated thread. All threads should be titled with a [GNAR] in the front of the title. IE: [GNAR] The SS Minnow.
  14. An answer to your first question, no, no challenge build is counted towards free builds.
  15. If you have the pieces, the water you used in your rumor build is almost always good looking. IF not, there are a few ways people have built water, from clears on their side to just putting in waves. My island build in my signature has waves, although that was a pain, and I still did not have enough to do what I really wanted. I had built very large waves at one point.
  16. Oh, I see what you were saying now, yeah the crew was very mismatched because I figured that's pretty much what it would have been like with a quickly recruited crew. Sailors (mostly the pirate figs) warriors (mostly the viking figs) and archers (they were an assortment).
  17. Just a suggestion for when you pick your place. We have three active (as in someone who represents the city who is actively participating still) port cities in West Kaliphlin (Eastgate, Barqa, Carn) and only one (maybe 2 when DM resurfaces) on the whole south coast of the mainland. A spot along the Slot (the channel between the island of Gorr and the mainland) or even one in the far Eastern side of Kaliphlin (on the other side of the mountains on the way to Nocturnus) may be the best places to strategically put a new vibrant port city.
  18. I love this build, excellent work! The scene really comes together, and I totally thought of your build when I watched History channel's Vikings yesterday. I love the water technique too, I just wish it didn't require so many. If you get lucky to get them on PAB its great, but if not, they can be expensive on bricklink.
  19. Since alot of historica has been early renaissance, I figured it was fine.
  20. We would love to have you on board! A backstory and sig fig character is all you need. It doesn't have to be elaborate.
  21. Kaliphlin's high council does not mute its members. If one of the high council disagrees, they will state it. We air our opinions because that leads to rational discussion; this my friend, is the essence of civilization. -Dugal MacLean
  22. Wait, but that is exactly what happened when I made that comment!
  23. I did not see that comment in the previous thread. I would have said the same there. Now I think it is funny that you were just repeating the argument. haha, Mitgardian fashionable headgear on plain non-Mitgardian pirates? Never!
