12v for the tracks and sleepers (although I always used to have issues with the centre power rail. Could cause the train to stop suddenly). 4.5v was terrible, just push the rails onto 2x8 white plates, rails always came off if you knocked them, 9v for sheer traction and the fact you did not need the rubber drive bands! I have this set, it's a great classic, From memory, there was a slight error in the instructions to do with the 3 black 2x2 tiles on the floor by the drawer bridge, I seem to remember if you follow the instructions, the drawbridge does not open properly? But I could be wrong Paul

Technicopedia
paul_delahaye replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is such a good technic resource, it really should be pinned! -
Nice, except the yellow air horns on the roof don't do anything for me I like the trailer

I totally disagree about set 8275, not only was it one of the most playable technic sets in a long time! that set was so heavily discounted, by about 25 - 33% in the UK meaning I paid about £75 for a £100 set, Just adding up the power function parts on Lego.com to purchase separately: Controller £7.49 XL Motor £7.99 XL Motor £7.99 S Motor £5.99 S Motor £5.99 Battery Box £5.49 Receiver £11.49 Receiver £11.49 £63.92 total, So you basically get the remaining 1376 parts in this set for £11. So at 0.008 per brick, that makes this set one of the best value for money sets ever made, pretty good by any standards. There was no better value way to buy power functions components when this set was easily available! I don't deny that this years flagship set, the truck was not a good set, I just agree with tomacwhite that the set appeared to have a lot of corners cut in the final design, especially as it was £130 and the best I found it at was £120! All you got was a battery box, a switch and an power functions XL motor. A total of £18.47 for the power function components for the 2009 flagship model, in comparison, that means the remaining 1874 bricks cost £100 so approx 5p per brick. Not too mention all the stickers! Although I did get two sets of stickers with the 8258 truck, not sure if we were supposed to? The first time I have applied the stickers in a long time. Paul

Shame they did not make the hoop on the basketball big enough for a real lego basketball

It would have been nice to have seen at least 2 of this printed tile Printed Tile Link on the rear bumper and then just a little number plate sticker rather than that long messy sticker :-( Also would have been nice to have 2 drawers and 1 cupboard on the truck rather than 2 cupboards. I also like the fact that they have used 3 of 2x2 slope bricks for the bonnet of the truck, in the past we have seen an annoying combination of a 2x4 and 2x2 to make a 6 wide bonnet which is annoying, especially when one of the bricks has a smooth slope and the other has a textured slope, I am sure this must annoy others, especially when building roofs, I guess when Lego replaced an injection mold, they cut the costs and made the 2 x 4 slope smooth rather than textured? But still one of the nicest small town sets of the year, must get several to make a repair depot Paul

Nice to see the return of the blue baseplate, I've never really understood why Lego don't release this standard size square baseplate in other useful colours, like, white, brown, beige instead of just green and blue. I'm sure this would be popular with the AFOL market. How useful would white be for a ski resort, brown and beige for building sites etc. And surely not that difficult to make giving the molds etc must already exist, just a matter of adding different colour plastic granules? Not sure if these baseplates are injection molded or vacuum formed/thermo formed? The only other slight cheapo part about the creator house although it looks great and will be on my 2010 purchase list, the 1x1x1 brick with hole which is used to put the pin into for the pivot point on the garage door, they could have made it in white rather than grey :-( guess they did not have any of those currently in production? What I meant is Bionicle and Pokemon, I don't understand the point of either, and I'm not sure where you see soul in a random bionicle monster which all look the same just slightly different colours? I would pick a technic truck, car, crane, bulldozer etc over any monster, but hey, I guess we are all different and thats why I use and benifit from the Technic forum and I've never posted on the Bionicle forum. Each to their own I guess

Crane truck
paul_delahaye replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I like the rotating claw feature, very cool. I'm not 100% taken on the colour scheme of the cab, maybe it is just the shape that looks a little odd, however feature wise, great. -
I totally agree, I love technic, trains and town and I think all 3 are very integrated in terms of themes, for example, you can build a train bridge using technic girders and beams, much harder to span a gap just using bricks, you only have to look at the James May (Lego House) program to see how hard a brick girder is. Like a previous poster said, I don't understand Bionicle either? I don't understand why you would want to make the creature? What is that all about, it's a bit like pokemon! I just don't get it. Give me another Technic crane any day, oh yeah, thank you Lego we have another one coming this year :-) Paul

MOC/MOD: Alternative designs for set 4564
paul_delahaye replied to Selander's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Lol, I thought at first you had just taken a picture of a regular 4564 train with the camera in black and white mode! -
Ages ago I recorded on National Geographic a short clip about the lego factory, just got the technology to get it onto you tube for all to enjoy. The fully automated warehouse is very impressive Enjoy Paul

You have a few nice classic sets there among all the new models.

I'm open to offers of help! Can only locate instructions on resizing images for PC users and I'm running a mac! Managed to fix the images, just they are a little large now. Paul
-
As we are well and truly snowed in today, a good excuse to post a couple of MOC's I made a while ago. Aplogies for the images sizes, maybe one of the admins can resize for me, i can only locate tutorials for resizing on a PC using MS Paint and I'm using a mac, ahhh First up a little lawn mower I decided the grass was getting too much and he needed a more advanced ride on mower. All mowers together Finally a couple of farm tractors and trailers, although I am not as happy with the results of these, lets call them version 1. I think they could be better. Open to comments :-)

I agree with the comment re: shipping, in this day we normally expect reduced shipping if not free shipping the more you spend. For example I just placed a £250 shop at home order before Christmas and was hit with a £6 delivery charge. Although I appreciate shipping my order from a warehouse in central Europe to my door, possible cost Lego at least £6 this does go against the norm for internet shipping. Paul

This reminds me of the old micro machines travel playsets from yester year! http://media.photobucket.com/image/micro%2..._FishNChips.png All folding away within the case
-
Well, it will now that town and train tech have been made into separate themes!

Telehandler - 11 motors !
paul_delahaye replied to Fistach's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very good model, although I'm not fully convinced by the crab steering? Not sure if that is a feature on real telehandlers? Did you have any problems using 2 individual motors on the two lifting actuators? I would have thought it they may slightly try and lift at different speeds/amounts, just by a tiny bit?? Paul -
looking at the picture of the Excavator, although it appears to show 6 functions, bucket, arm 1, arm 2, rotate, drive left. drive right. There only looks to be 2 remote receivers with the set, from a negative point, this means a clutch selector, meaning that the set is not fully remote as standard, however lets hope we can modify it :-) This looks a nice set, lets hope it has a low price point like the bulldozer from the other year! I also like the blue truck, looks a little like a hook loader to me, although not 100% sure from the pics whether the body is fully demountable? Bike does not do alot for me, crane is just another crane to add to the collection Paul

Sloppiness When You Are Building
paul_delahaye replied to legotrainfan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I always seem to have a couple of big bricks left over when I build technic sets etc, had a couple left over with Market village the other week, I actually find it quite fun going back through the instructions trying to find what I missed, Paul
