  1. I have them all, I like them all, the firestation although a good build is my least favorite. I love the escape route on the back of GG I think GE is the best IMO Now all I need is a post office and a bank!
  2. Also this little wind up motor from the creator set is considered power functions and this light brick as well and a sound brick as well
  3. Afraid not, just the lighting, and the wood, I could not go back through the hassel of taking more pictures, attempting to resize on the PC and then loading them from the mac. Don't ask, I'm no graphic designer!
  4. INDEXED Time for a quick review, as I don't think I have yet seen this great little set reviewed yet! Picked it up tonight at the Lego Shop in Bluewater in the UK, Price: £17.99, Piece count: 267 (apparently) Build time: 40 minutes, including pictures (Additionally Bluewater Lego shop also had the new airport 3182 (Priced at £79.99) (Expensive) and the jet plane 3181 (Priced at £29.99) Front of Box Back of Box 2 Instruction Manuals, 1 for the Limo, 1 for the helicopter The DSS, although I think the set looks great without the stickers 3 Bags of Bricks, Random Instruction Pages The Minifigs, awesome brown hair on the female minifig New bricks (although some only in new colours) for 2010 Start of the limo build, 6 white doors ahhhh Half way through the limo build, love the bling lights under the limo Nearly done on the limo, quite a tight squeeze in the back, I have a feeling they may be very drunk minifigs soon! In you get mamme Start of the helicopter build Half way through, all going well Nice tight fit on the cockpit canopy, none of that rubbish we saw on the nose piece of the remote control trains! All Done, The leftovers Conclusion Design: 9/10 I think the design is spot on with this set, not bad in terms of scale either. Playability: 9/10 Limo is something Lego have never before produced which is cool. It has a helicopter which can be wooshed around. Parts: 8/10 Slightly limited parts selection, after all you can only use the key parts to build a helicopter or maybe a plane. but remember, 4 minifigs! Minifigures: 10/10 4 minifigs in a sub £20 set, winner, I think that alone makes this a worthwhile set. Conclusion: 9/10 All in all a good value for money set, I think this is one of the best 1st half city sets coming up, my only shame is that they did not make a new centre roof piece mold for the limo, bit of a shame they used a 4 x 8 plate. Nice little features, some internal detail, for £18 possible one of the best value sets of the year, I think I will be getting a second copy at some point, I think there is real potential to make a small propellor plane using the body of the helicopter, and adding wings to the roof. Paul
  5. That train ideas book from the 80's had some wonderful train ideas, I always loved the car loading ramp and the circus train idea!
  6. you are so right, pictures speak a thousand words :-)
  7. Interesting, what was your logic on the colour choice of the steering wheel? I seem some are blue and others match the colour of the cars. Paul
  8. I think the issue is not so much an issue of exchange rate, as everyone has already said a million times over in every pricing related thread the USA get things a little cheaper. I think what the real issue is here is that when you compare the modular building prices in the UK, both green grocer and fire station were an acceptable £99 where as the emporium is £140. A 40% increase, much more than my annual cost of living wage rise I got last year! When you compare piece count, both the fire station and the green grocer have the higher count. I'm sure I saw another topic where someone had weighed all the modulars, again, in terms of grams vs £ the grand emporium was the lightest set for your money. I think there is only one reason why the UK is getting screwed so hard, Lego have announced record profits in the UK market, they have gained market share and they have thought if the brits are stupid enough to pay these prices! Lets push our luck as much as we can and increase them. Check this link from a national paper, I think it says it all. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbys...-UK-market.html The only way our prices will go down is if we all stop buying, and I know that is never going to happen, so if you want the sets, live with it! Paul
  9. I've thought of something, old grey technic halfpins/half alxe with a small gear attached, This http://www.bricklink.com/browseList.asp?it...p;catString=134 (old light grey one without friction ridges) with either this http://www.bricklink.com/browseList.asp?it...p;catString=136 or this http://www.bricklink.com/browseList.asp?it...p;catString=136 Was a real b**turd to try and disassemble on the old 8851 technic excavator http://www.1000steine.com/brickset/images/8851-1.jpg
  10. I too thought a zoo is a no brainer in the future, I thought this the other day after I saw the ostrich in one of the new sets, they could even have a repile area, snakes, scorpions, spiders, crocs, frogs, plenty for an aquatic area, sharks, dolphins, octopus, ray, swordfish, even the land side of things would be covered with the horse, elephant, ostrich, monkeys, polar bears, no brainer, all they need is a giraff and a hippo
  11. I find it quite useful for measuring the studless beams, I often misjudge the length of them when building flagship sets, I can tell an axle length by eye after so many years of building Paul
  12. own design? looks very much like the layout I always wanted to copy from the train ideas book from the 80's, I just never had enough track. I was always impressed by the number of points & light controllers attached to the speed regulator in Lego's layout.
  13. I fear this was a no brainer poll especially as it's posted in the train forum, I doubt their is a huge amount of space fans visiting the train forum, there are few trains in outer space :-)
  14. Officially 171 but i never realised until recently that I even had this set, I did not have the instructions, just load of blue track, 4 bases, a battery box and a stickered brick saying 171 So next would be 7720 Then 7745 then 4563 and the rest is history, several thousands later, my 9v collection is complete...
  15. I would say Cars and Vans 4 wide Trucks 6 wide Trains 8 wide Planes 10 wide However all my trains are 6 wide :-)
  16. I have 2 copies of this amazing set, I never got intercoastal seaport until much much later in my adult life, the 2 sets connect together so well. Also the little police station, some of my all time favourite sets. just behind 6399
  17. wow, I was just going to ask the other day whether anyone knew if the minifig collector series would be continued, I really like them, and the Legoland windsor price point with discount of £7.20 last year was very reasonable, lets hope their price remains low :-)
  18. Only in the world of Lego pricing! Dollar to pound, it should be priced around £99 GBP Hopefully they will reconsider the price after poor sales!
  19. So, this may have already been discussed but life is too short to plough through 59 pages of posts on this topic! When we go to buy these minifigs in the shops, are we going to be able to see which one we are buying within the bag, or is it going to be like a lucky dip? Has there been any discussion on a price point? I'm guessing we are hoping for around £1.00 each in the UK giving an impulse set is £2.49? Anyone know the answers? Paul
  20. Apologies if this has already been posted, if it has please close this thread, However I had not seen this: http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8493631.stm
  21. The good news is for anyone in the UK this set is 100% available right now in Argos! No waiting for March as expected for general release! £24.99
  22. Just picked up 2 of these tractors for parts, i have a MOC trailer in mind! Watch this space, well maybe not this exact space...
  23. I like the horsebox ;-) But as for the hummer...., it just does not do it for me, maybe it's a lack of enthusiasm for American cars?
  24. mmmm, I had visions of the truck actually moving, i.e. motorised? not a removal truck! I imagine I'm not the only one :-)
  25. I'm not convinced a brick counts as your oldest set? Still seatching for mine, but I get your drift, I have a load of the old style big lego people, but no plans etc, I guess it depends on what people call a set? I could use a selection of bricks to build and old set, but would it need the box and instructions to count as a "Set" mmmmm
