At least the new camper has doors that open for the driver, this is a good improvement over the old set!

The new narrow gauge train tracks from this years indy set show some hope for a future monorail? Paul

i'm not getting the blue lights on the recovery trucks either trans orange or trans yellow would be much more in keeping, blue is reserved for Fire, police and ambulance :-) A simple fix -
Review: 8264 Hauler
paul_delahaye replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I just picked this set up from Argos in the UK for 25% discount, a more realistic price point for the features you get. I love the steering, can perform very tight turns, i actually like the independent rear swinging suspension. I even like the tipping mechanism, although i wish they had a slip cog to avoid that inbuilt grinding noise of the linear actuator clutch slipping, this is not a plesent sound shame that is all the features this set had but at 25% discount i think it is more affordable now Paul -
Review: 8262 Quad-Bike

I just picked this set up on Friday from Argos in the UK (25% Discount at the moment) I'm a big technic fan, i enjoyed the build, the only criticism I have is the steering is shocking. You can turn the steering left and it has no effect on the wheels, there is just too much free play in the mechanism. Apart from that a nice set -
The trailer bed on the truck looks like a new 1 piece molded design, seems to have an in built swan neck?

Where is the best PAB-wall in the UK
paul_delahaye replied to UserNameInvalid's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Bluewater, definitely the best of the 3 shops IMO, and the best pick a brick i every achieved from there was a tub full of compressors and pneumatic pistons only found in the old mindstorms ultimate builder set, (this was a couple of years ago) The had white lego ladders in the PAB wall last time i was there about a month ago. Brighton, the crazy one way system just to get into the town nearly got me a ticket! They used to offer 10% off etc, but sadly no more, however all the 3 lego shops do have the quite generous loyalty point scheme! Milton Keynes, I found this shop the most disappointing of the 3, nothing special, certainly not in the PAB wall, but it was a couple of years ago. Legoland, my local lego shop :-) good pick a brick wall, although smaller than last year, and mainly full of basic bricks, a few exceptions and specials. Regarding the egyption ride, i would not waste my time again, guy said it was the best ride in the park, and it had a hour queue on opening weekend, 1 hour 40 minutes later we get into the room where they show the training video, we then exit through a door to the left only to be led into another queue for another 20 minutes. There is a real problem with loading people onto and off of this ride, it is very inefficient. The ride was over in no more than 2 minutes, back to Pick a Brick, it's £45 per kilo in the wall, same as last year, which is steep, we have seen a steady increase since the original days when it used to be £30 per kilo. The only saving grace is 10% discount with an annual pass, The broken up sets they sold 2 years ago when they were selling bricks for £10 a kilo was great :-) -
Exclusive Train 10194 Emerald Night (Exclusive 2009)
paul_delahaye replied to der seb's topic in LEGO Train Tech
So do I understand correctly, this battery technology has no memory and in theory will really last forever and not die after 1000 charges like a NiMd battery?- 559 replies

Lego Pharaoh on the Thames
paul_delahaye replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It's a good publicity stunt, it's not that huge it could not have gone in a truck, straight to Lego Land? -
Favorite 1, Trains 2, City 3, Technic 4, Old School Space 5, Old School Castle Worst 1, Bionicle (I just don't get it, It's like pokemon to me, I bought 2 and I still don't get it, technic monsters? maybe someone will explain to me, I'd rather have a technic crane) 2, Jack Stone (It's obvious) 3...... Still thinking on this one, if it looked rubbish I did not buy them, hence I don't really know a third bad genre to list. Paul

How much is your collection worth?
paul_delahaye replied to Derek's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm over half a million bricks now so I'm guessing were reaching the £10k mark, although priceless to replace, I can't sell bricks, only buy more :-) -
I would not buy 1, I would make sure you buy 2, they are really good for separating two 2x4 plates or 2x8 plates, these damage easily if you use your teeth or some knives. let alone the damage to teeth, For a £1 it's a no brainer!

Value of this mechinism.

There very good for steering mechanism's on small technic models i believe :-) lol -
I love the trailer with the pull outs, and overall design and layout However, I'm not a fan of US vehicles, I'd far rather see a european tractor unit up front to pull that beast Paul

Back in 1988 (I think, could have been 86) the Russian Antonov came to the Farnborough Air Show in the UK, it wass impressive, from memory I remember it being advertised as having 28 wheels, The one impressive thing I remember is it landed on the runway, and then using reverse thrust, reversed down the runway under it's own power. quite a beast. I believe due to it's size it was then banned from UK airspace in future years due to it's size? Paul

LUBE for pneumatics
paul_delahaye replied to furious's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I've used a silicone spray on old school car wheels to make them run smoother and stop the squeek, guess it would work on turntables and pneumatics as well, Paul -

Anyone reading railbricks 5 will see the potential with this type of train to power it using a power functions motor, however where the current battery box will go who knows? Paul- 559 replies
