Jurassic Park and Jurassic World Set Ideas Thread
jodawill replied to Tom Jurassic's topic in LEGO Licensed
To be honest, I don't think there's anything from these movies that's notable enough to warrant a set, except the SUV (maybe). The only reason kids would want Jurassic Park sets is because dinosaurs are cool. There are plenty of dinosaurs in the new movie, so there's not really any reason for TLG to spend money making more sets. -
Don't count on them ever fixing their product descriptions. I've been hounding them for months to fix the product description for the green baseplate. It still has the wrong picture and claims to come with the original green color.
-
I'm also getting that message. I hope this means they're fixing the site. I've wasted a lot of time with lost orders on that website.

What browser do you use?

Their website sucks so much. Whenever I order parts, I have to create the order twice. Every time, without fail, it will erase my entire order the first time I create it. The search only works if I clear my cache and cookies. I constantly have problems not being able to check out or add items to my cart. They make it incredibly difficult to give them money. It's unbelievable. It's been like this for a really long time too. It doesn't really do any good. I've filled out that survey several times. The website hasn't been fixed. They never contacted me to ask questions about the issues I had. Nothing… the website is just stagnant.

Image courtesy of pikachu3 at BrickLink. BrickLink is wrong. Lego actually considers them to be different colors.

Has anyone else noticed that the cannons are a new color? The 2009 cannons were sparkly with a yellowish tint. The new cannons are extra dark bluish gray.

What the color change in the Green baseplates?
jodawill replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I don't understand why they haven't updated the product description. They're just going to keep upsetting customers if they don't tell people what they're buying. -
It looks like a 1x1 round plate to me. I have hundreds of those in front of me at any given point of the day.

All of the yellowed and scratch white bricks in my collection. DANGIT! I was trying to build a store display with white bricks a couple weeks ago. I hadn't realized before then how many horrible white bricks I had. I was having a really hard time building the display because so many of the parts were in poor condition, so I eventually gave up and built something else. When I find the time, I'm going to go through every dang white piece I have and toss everything that isn't in good condition, then order a crapton of replacements.

You're not doing anything wrong. The S@H website is crap. Clear your cookies and try it again.

I'm not worked up about it. I was just commenting on it because it's really weird. 20 years ago, even the pirates were smiling. Now a lot of the good guys are unhappy too. It's weird.

Why are the minifigures so angry? Even the good guys aren't happy.

Starting a LUG for Teens?
jodawill replied to houstonproductions1's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
TexLUG will let you attend their events as long as you're accompanied by an adult. You could at least attend one meeting so you can ask the local guys whether they know of any other teens who'd be able to join your club. http://www.texlug.org/ -
What the color change in the Green baseplates?
jodawill replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Lego finally responded to the color change (kind of). -
Yeah, I have no idea why they didn't include the coins. I believe the coins included in the latest castle sets are also from a new mold, so it doesn't make any sense to me to not include them in the pirates sets.

I finally built a couple of the sets last night, the outpost and the fort. I'll probably write more detailed reviews for S@H. Overall, I think the sets are very good. Here are a few things I've noticed: Good: • The stud shooters are awesome. This is my first time using them. I really like them. • The bluecoat flag is fantastic. It's just like the original, except the edges are much better defined thanks to the yellow outline. • Dark red masonry bricks. • The new pirate flag is also pretty sharp, and I think it's awesome that they made both small and large flags for both sides. • The color quality control seems to be getting much better. Both parts of the treasure chest were the exact same color. (Last time I bought a set with a reddish brown treasure chest, the lid was much paler.) • The new oars are very durable, feel good, and look good. • Every set in this wave has at least one cannon. As a kid, I always wished I had more cannons. (As an adult, I think I've gone WAY overboard on them because of this. ) • The lanterns look very good – much better than the mere flame so many sets had in the '90s. • The crab in 70410 is a nice touch. It feels like a very high quality piece. It's very heavy. • The soldier torsos, like the flags, are very true to the originals, yet improved. • The pirate with the green shirt is an excellent variation of the old blue vest pirate of the '90s. • 70410 and 70412 look very sharp when connected together. If they had included a blue 32x32 baseplate, this would have really made a complete '90s style set. • The robot arm used to hold the lamp seems to be a new mold. The robot arms I got in Benny's Spaceship and the white classic space minifigure set had no clutch power at all. These new robot arms hold very well. (They also feel like a different kind of plastic to me.) • This theme includes two different colored rowboats, reddish brown and dark blue. I think it's nice that they included some variation in this wave. • The 4-studded fence piece is a great improvement over the old ones. I never understood why that piece was missing two studs. Neutral: • The palm tree doesn't look as bad in person as it does in the photos, but I would still prefer the old ones. • The tree frog can't actually face upward like the picture shows because he's attached to a spinning pin. • 70412 uses 2x8 plates on the tower to avoid adding another part to the set, but 6x8 plates would work much better. • Personally, I would have rather gotten an extra soldier in 70410 instead of the "sergant" [sic], but I'm sure there are a lot of kids who can't afford the pirate ship who will appreciate the variety. • 70412 is a little too rectangular for my taste. I like how Eldorado Fortress used a lot of angled bricks. • I think the raft in 70410 would look better with more barrels instead of the round bricks. Bad: • In 70412, the soldier's shako is covering half of his eyebrows, which looks really weird (he'd look much better without the eyebrows). • The new bandanas are dumb. • There's not enough room for the minifigures to stand in the fort (note that the back of the instructions shows several of the minifigures standing in positions that don't work in real life). This is especially true in front of the jail and around the cannon in 70412. • The minifigures aren't happy. Even three of the good guys aren't smiling – the admiral, the governor, and soldier #4. • No gold coins or bars. • Freaking catapult in 70410. That mold should be destroyed and never used again. • The epaulettes on the soldiers should be red. The white really clashes with the rest of the minifigure. • The pirates with the striped shirts look crappy to me. The design is inconsistent with the tone of the rest of the theme. Their bandanas, faces, and torsos look cartoonish in a very non-Lego way. (The same goes for the pirate cook.)

As a rule, I never expect used sets to be complete when I buy them from fleabay. Most people who sell Lego sets on there either don't know what they're doing or don't care. I only buy used sets there if it's a really good deal, and I don't assume the lot will include anything I don't specifically see in the picture. I learned this lesson a couple years ago when I bought a used Chief's Tepee that was advertised as "99% complete." It was missing the horse, one of the minifigures, and about half of the bricks. The minifigures I did get were all wrong legs/torsos, missing hairpieces, etc. I sent the seller a nastigram about it, and he said I shouldn't have expected more than that because he didn't advertise it as complete. I should have filed a complaint through PayPal, but I didn't.

I need Lego shavings for project, but how?
jodawill replied to Cloveapple's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
What are you going to use them for? Crayon shavings might work too. -
Is that plate green or bright green?

Edit: Never mind. I didn't read the article first. Screw Mega Bloks. This comment summarizes how I see all Mega Bloks fans:

Disney minidolls into minifigs
jodawill replied to Dorayaki's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
You did a great job, but now that I have something to compare it to, I think the minidoll works really well for Elsa. She's much too slender for the regular minifigure head. In general, it seems to me that the minidolls are better for females, and the minifigures are better for males. They've made some male minidolls, which look really weird to me. Your prince charming looks great. -
What the color change in the Green baseplates?
jodawill replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The product description for the green baseplate on S@H still doesn't mention the color change. I guess they've decided to leave it to the complaints in the reviews to inform the shoppers.
