Some of these possibilities sound really cool, especially the Volvo EW160E excavator! I do wish that LEGO would do another combine harvester - we've only ever had one as an A-model. Also, the Airport Rescue Vehicle - could that be another fire truck - maybe one like this? No doubt, there are some revelations sure to be afoot in the offing.

Finished building my 42042 yesterday. This thing is a monster! Hats off to Michael Jeppesen for a complex and totally fun build.

Absolutely amazing. I love the use of the Technic Guys as well - it really makes the excavator look more authentic.

Good review! I personally think this set is pretty dang cool; it's fun to build and to play about with. I agree with you on the PF side of things; it's better to leave this thing on manual. Plus, the roof needs to come off it you do shove in the motor, which I'm not keen on. As for the B-model, the Forest Skidder is quite great as well. Doesn't use as many panels as the A, which makes it look a bit holey in places, but otherwise it's a good model. It's the most complete and fully equipped skidder to date, with bulldozer blade, claw and winch, and like the A-model is easy to build and use. Wish the set came with the instructions... So, yeah, as I said before, good review! You have a good critical technique.

Not to mention that 42042 isn't RC. That's a pity if you ask me, though the set does look pretty great.

You're both right. The three-length black axles in 8439 also appeared in the 2003 re-release of the Pneumatic Crane Truck and a 2006 BIONICLE set; aside from 2006, which might be a Peeron error, they weren't OOP at the time. The MdStone axle-pins in the 8439 set were unique, though, to 8439 and the Model Team Hot Rod re-release (I forget the number) in 2004. Again, though, the 2003 Crane Truck had them in the OldGrey, so it's not much of a change. I'd actually forgotten the diffs in the Unimog; I thought Brickset got that wrong. Looks like it was me! (EDIT: Nope, it wasn't; I stand firm on the 8063 point) Thanks for the responses, zux and Blakbird! It's always an adventure on this forum!

I'd love it if LEGO re-released 8043, 8284, 8273, 8049, 8274, 8275 - aargh, someone stop me! 8439 was released in 2004; a lot of the parts in that set were out of production at the time and reissued for the re-release. The same with 2009's 8063, which used the older differential rather than the one released in 2008. I'm not sure using OOP parts would be much of a leap. It would be cool if we did get a few re-releases next year, though. Not that I'm saying it should be a full year of reruns, but it'd still be good for those who didn't get the sets the first time round.

I was hoping they'd make the final product RC, like 8043. Oh well. Still looks pretty great. Hmm. I'm wondering if the strings need to be cut to length, like in 8288. That looked pretty near impossible from where I was sitting.

I guess this is it! For me, this year's line-up has been a bit hit-and-miss; we've had some really good smaller sets but the bigger ones have been a little disappointing. Here's hoping the crawler crane turns things around; motorized tracks? - Wow!

Good thinking, Tekneex! Michael T. Jeppesen also designed the 42007 excavator, which uses the same sort of claw as the 42042 crane, so you're probably right.

Hmm. Here was me thinking Lars Krogh Jensen designed the plane. Talking of designers, I've noticed "MT Lifting Service" on the side of the crawler crane. Who's M.T.?

That Arocs is one amazing looking truck. On a side note, the bucket parts on the grab remind me of the 80's-era excavator buckets that came in yellow.
