  1. I don't think any other model has used four sets of caterpillars before, so you're right to say it's innovative. I know there are those who say that motorization takes some of the intricacy from a model as well, so maybe it's best that 42038 isn't motorized. TBH, I can't even see where any of the parts would go, so I don't think it can be upgraded with PF. Plus, that crane looks like great fun regardless of LA amount.
  2. That does annoy the heck outta me as well. I like the look of the 42038, but it doesn't appear to have a whole lot of functions, like you say. Then again, how many functions does a real snowmobile/snowcat have? I'm sure someone said 42038 can be motorized... Can someone just put me out of my wonderment?
  3. I don't understand, of all the sets LEGO could re-release, why it has to be 8041. Why not 8043? Why not 8275? There are so many great sets that could be reissued and still sell well. I'm just stumped on this one. Oh, snap! Got the backlash off that all the way over here!
  4. 42038 ROCKS! Cannot wait to get it. The Tracked Loader's another entry on my wish list, and I might get the Mining Truck. The rest ain't my bag at all. I do think the lime hubs on 42037 look intriguing, though.
  5. Hmm. Taking apart models CAN take forever, especially the huge 1000+ part models.
  6. Yep, it only uses loader parts! I've built it and I can confirm that it's very much a B-model for the 42023 loader (designed by Michael Jeppesen), as with 8453 from 2003. It's a nice little model, too. Looks a bit more realistic than the 2003 scraper as well, though it lacks the levelling body function and the bucket mechanism is a bit limited. Still a lovely-looking vehicle, though. The tractor unit is really well-designed. Funny thing - if you look at the model on the back of the 42023 box, the scraper shown is slightly different than the one built in the downloadable instructions. There's even a note on the instructions saying that it's a revised manual. Looks like Grohl is somewhat of a perfectionist. I found it a pity that there aren't any B-models for the other two vehicles, either. Oh well.
  7. Yep. Just checked. Hm. Thought it was Aurelien Rouffiange. Well, now I know. Looking at this set, though, I'm not sure the design techniques tally with anything from the new wave. If I had to guess, I'd pick 42031 or 42036 for Grohl's design. To be honest, a few are hard to pin down; I've just wildly guessed for all of them, though. I hope a few are right.
  8. Sounds credible. I don't know what sets Grohl HAS designed, to be fair. Since I'm not familiar with his work as a result, I couldn't guess what he would have designed for this list, if anything. Does anyone know what he's designed in the past?
  9. I'm going to try something daring and guess who designed what set. Here goes! 42031 - Aurelien Rouffiange! 42032 - Michael Jeppesen! 42033 - Alfred Pedersen! 42034 - Aurelien Rouffiange! 42035 - Markus Kossman! 42036 - Aurelien Rouffiange! 42037 - Lars Thygesen! 42038 - Jeppe Juul Jensen! 42039 - Uwe Wabra! Phew! Wonder if I've guessed any correctly?
  10. I too must admit that the line-up doesn't fill me with excitement, apart from 42038. Also, I'd like to add that I thought the "Dump Truck" would be a larger version of the truck seen in 42023. Or a hauler. Still, like I said before, it's something kind of new.
  11. I don't actually think there's been a Technic quarry truck before (with the possible exception being 42030's B-model), so at least 42035 is something relatively new. That and 42038.
  12. Like the compact loader! Those axles over the bucket are pretty good too; looks original. Would it be too much to ask for a bucket in a different colour, though? We haven't had those since 2003!
  13. We've got another eager beaver over here!
  14. I think someone said 42038 can be motorized... can't remember though.
  15. The Arctic Vehicle and Tracked Loader look great. Wonder how the PF works on 42038; from the looks of it, it's used to drive the crane.
  16. I'm fascinated by that Arctic Vehicle. From the "futuristic" comments I've heard, I'm hoping it'll be something like this. I liked the really original sets LEGO came up with back in the day, and maybe we'll see more of that. I hope.
  17. It's gonna be one long month.
  18. Well, that's not too long to wait! Maybe we'll get them even earlier this year. Here's hoping.
  19. I'm keen to see pics too. Have to admit that I'm not overwhelmed by the list just yet, either, although the "Tracked" vehicles sound good.
  20. It's an interesting list, no doubt. I want to see what the Tracked Loader looks like, not to mention that Arctic vehicle!
  21. Aarrrgh, no Construction Crew or Container Truck?! That's just not fair!
  22. 42008 for £2.99?! BARGAIN! Are the pneumatics good? As for the 42029, I think I'd only get that for the Forest Skidder. Not sure it's worth £70 for a model whose instructions I'd have to download, though.
  23. My local TRU got most of the 2H sets in early (bar the 42030), so I got the 42028 Bulldozer last week. I've built the Trench Digger model (took me about two hours, had to stop for dinner) and I've yet to build the 'Dozer. It's got some great parts, most of which I don't have a lot of, particularly the new diff, and the build is very enjoyable. Loads of modular steps. I also like how the two models are built to different proportions. -MB35
