[MOC] Rolls Royce Phantom (2018)
grego18f replied to Appie's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You did the good choice building the bodywork using studful. the result is impressive (even if I don't like Rolls Royce for its cars) and the mechanics are spot on. You killed me with the windows -
Steph77's Moc corner - EW160E
grego18f replied to steph77's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
As an enthusiast, I am pleased to see two Porsche at once. I love the rear end and the profile view. Is it possible to increase the front bumper by a stud? It would look better IMO... Nice work as always -

I like what I see. I have some questions though. Is it possible to break the line on the hood to reduce the gap with the fenders? Could you make the rear section of the roof less domed, more progressive? -
Thank you for the video . This new system allows many possibilities but one question is raising in my mind: is the PFS system dead? I mean, I know that this technology will no longer be produced by Lego but will they provide a solution to combine the C+ hub with PFS motors? I also hope that they will produce smaller hubs (with no gyro) for smaller models...

Mack Granite 6x4 dump truck
grego18f replied to grego18f's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you! The top of the front wheel fenders had to be brickbuilt to match better the real thing. It adds a finishing touch I think. Of course, you can take the roof design! May I suggest you visit my Bricksafe page? I built a PF Anthem flattop sleeper months ago that could interest you. It was a proportion corrected model of the 42078. -

You are right, there will be a complete fleet at the end . But I am linking your work for the snowplow equipment. -
Mack Granite 6x4 dump truck
grego18f replied to grego18f's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks, guys! Anyway, the .lxf is complete. It doesn't seem at first sight but there are 1375 parts: .lxf file. I am currently submitting it to Rebrickable. Here are other views, created in Studio 2.0: I don't know yet if I will do any instructions. I have begun them but (as a beginner) it will be time-consuming, that's why I could ask for a little fee. If someone is interested in making them, contact me . EDIT : a comparison with Milan's Granite! -
Mack Granite 6x4 dump truck
grego18f replied to grego18f's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@Maaboo35, @Ric079, @ScaleCarModels, thanks for your kind comments Yeah, I know the .lxf file is quite a nightmare to follow. LDD was new to me at this moment... I'll try to make it better in the future. I'm glad you enjoy the model. I was kind of disappointed once it was in parts (I can't build it again because I've sold my 42009 and my 9396). Having tested the two scales, I think 1:22 gives more potential for complete equipment. As I said only the snowplow part (the front blade and the spreader, both modified) and rear axles are from @M_longer alternate model. The rest (front axle, hood, cabin) are of my own . I'd say we took two different paths to reproduce a real truck, with different limitations. -
Following numerous modifications on the Mack #42078, I decided to build an icon: The Granite. This is not my first one (See here) but built on a smaller scale (1:22 instead of 1:17). The proportions of the hood have been corrected compared to the original set. It is shorter now. It is far from perfection, but I think I have found a good compromise between looks and realism. All the necessary details are here: horns, jig lights, asymmetric sides… Some areas are not completed yet. This is the case of the front mudguards where I am missing some 1x1 black beams. Also, the taillights would look better with an oblong shape. The cabin (and all the insides) have been lowered by 1 stud leading to a redesign of the steering mechanism. The engine remains unchanged compared to the set. The front cooling fan has been replaced by a 20t simple bevel gear to accommodate the short hood. The rear part of the chassis is close to the one on the snowplow designed by @M_longer (42078 alternate). It enables to place the additional snow equipment. The tipper is white, with realistic shapes. Here are some views of the mechanics (very simple): The LDD file is close to completion. At this moment, I am not sure if I will share it because of the rear axles being the same as @M_longer’s. I did not buy the instructions for his alternate, all is built after photos. Hope you like it ?. Any constructive criticism is more than welcome!

Ingmar Spijkhoven Passed Away
grego18f replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sad news indeed... I did not know him personally but had some exchanges with him via PM. I really like his work (which inspired me a lot). I hope he sits in peace now. All my condolences to his family and his friends. -
Maybe you can use a similar setup than in Gerger's GMK 6400... Link : Anyway, I really like what you are doing. Keep up the good work ;)

[WIP] Volvo L350H

Thank you for the suggestions. The model is meant to be manual (except the arm movement) so mini LA for steering is not an option sorry. -

Well done. You can also you inverted studful 16L Beam. When I built my Nooteboom years ago, this proved to be efficient regarding bending. But obviously, the top surface wouldn't be smooth... -
[WIP] Volvo L350H
grego18f posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi, I recently went back to Lego after a while and have decided to try replicating the new Volvo L350H wheel loader. This MOC is meant to fit the scale of my improved Mack Anthem (dimensions corrected): So, it is roughly 1:22 scale. The finished product will be red (yeah, another red loader) and will be equipped as the one above. All of the functions will be manual, except the arm movement operated thanks to Power Functions. I have obviously begun by the front end of the loader. This was quite hard for me to put all the functions in, as the quasi-vertical cylinders, while keeping proportions correct. The front is quite robust, and functions run smoothly. I think I manage to get a correct Z linkage (see photos). I am now building the rear part of the loader. It will have a 42078 inspired engine as I think the Lego cylinders are way too big for this scale. In addition, there will be a pendular axle and easy battery replacement. Mechanical functions will be operated by an L motor via gearboxes. In the following photos, you can see how I progressed. At this stage, there is mainly beaming to delimit the spaces (cabin, trunk, etc). At first, I wanted to put two two-way gearboxes, but it resulted that I have not enough room because I am limited to 7 studs wide in most parts of the loader (this is partially due to the 94.8 wheels and scale). I ended up with a simple gearbox... Be aware, the gears are not held properly, but I just wanted to show the routing. This one is meant to reduce the number of gears and thus maximize lifting capacity. https://bricksafe.com/pages/grego18f/mack-granite/volvo-l350h If I submit this loader at its early development stages, this is to obtain your feedback. I really think there is room for improvement (and maybe two-way gearboxes!). So, any suggestion is welcome. At the same time, I am reworking the lower central articulation. In the previous iteration, I realized there would be 2 studs ground clearance. That is why I ended with the actual design (allowing 3 studs ground clearance). I am not yet satisfied with the connection because it limits the lateral movement of the U-joints… That’s all for now ? -

I really like your Scania (a Streamline isn't it?). The all white color scheme looks good to me, but you can maybe try to swap the white mudguards with black or dark grey ones. Well done for the V8 badge! -
Wow, you just won my interest! I share your thoughts about the issues the set has, especially for the weight. That's right it is a pity that we can't really see the mechanics on the official set. You have done a really good job (again) modifying this and adding new features. I look forward to seeing more in the future. Just a question: do you know approximatively how many parts have been saved? Good luck, you are on the right way!

Technic Model Comparison
grego18f replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sorry for the bad quality pics, but here you go. The sizes are roughtly the same. -
Regarding the two versions, I think it could be simplier to leave the slewing. Actually, your crane will be manual and, in my opinion, it gives more playability when slewing by hand (see the 42009...). You could then have another motorized function. Have you ever considered using a cable actuator instead of pneumatics?? From my experience, they teend to be very powerful. Here is an example from Pipasseyoyo Great progress anyway, following this closely!
