Finished building 42042 Crawler Crane about an hour ago.
-
I finished the model about 15 min ago. I mirrored the build regarding the cabin and the stairs on the opposite side, to have the cabin on the left side. That's what I'm used to see and it looks better to me that way. I modified the electric route by adding a PF switch between the battery box and the L-motor, getting a switch that is easier to turn than the battery box switch. I've also left out adding the additional part of the crane arm, it's long enough as it is. Otherwise the crane is built according to the instructions. It's a very nice model, I think it looks really realistic although I haven't seen any such cranes in real life. I would probably give it 8/10.

I started building last night, couldn't resist I started with the 4 bags a while ago now.

It's almost 6am. I should've been sleeping now for hours. Yet here I am, wondering - build or not build the crane

Finished building the 42028 Bulldozer a while ago.

I haven't had a particularly difficult building experience, the only one would have to be the "trouble" with getting the differential the wrong way when building. I got the rear one the wrong way when I built the 42030. I do expect to get a more challenging or such experience when I build my 42042 towards the end of the week. There's so much gears and stuff, lol.

I get ya, but IMO it looks better with that than with the 10x18 bucket the 8043 came with. The size is good, but it's far too wide. If TLG should make a decent excavator again, I think they should make a new bucket that is more realistic, more like a proper excavator bucket.

I don't see any problem with people expecting more realism and stuff in Technic sets, but personally I don't care so much about it. It is a toy after all, I can take some less realistic details. I'm looking forward to build the crane when I get home.

Picked up 3 sets today and built the smallest one.

Picked up a package with 42028, 42032 and 42042 this morning. Purchased them on Wednesday as soon as 42042 was available. I built 42032 before driving a few hours south where I'll be working with an excavator and hauler the next days.

I purchased 42028, 42032 and 42042 on Wednesday as soon as the 2H sets were available, and got them today.

Ah well, I picked up the package in the morning, but left home to do some work and won't be home until Friday, so I won't get to build it yet

What if they made a set with a new edition of PP wheels, or a new version of those? It seems many people want those back.

I got my copy of 42042 today. I left home and will be away until the weekend, so I won't build it yet, but it's waiting for me at home If they went with the solution of switching the battery box back and forth, it could have been made easier with a PF switch. The switch I have is much easier to switch back and forth than the BB. I'll try connecting the switch between the BB and the motor when I build my own copy, to make it easier than using the BB switch.

Technic General Discussion
N-4K0 replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm considering to get the new parts that make up the base of the outriggers and the extendable part of the pneumatic arm on the 42043 Arocs. It'll be released on August 1st, I know that, but I'm not so keen on getting the set itself, so I'm thinking of getting those parts off BrickLink instead, but I'm impatient, lol. ----- I usually use coolshop dot no when I buy sets, I find that they have the best prices, and when I checked just now, they have the 2H sets in to be ordered, with expected delivery on July 29. However, the Arocs is more expensive right now than the Volvo loader initially was, so the price is another point that makes me less keen on getting the set. Has it been stated anywhere what those above mentioned parts will be named and what category they will be? -
Cool model. I agree with some comments that the arm doesn't look quite optimal and the cabin looks a bit too wide, and I think the belts look too narrow for the size, but TLG doesn't make wider track links AFAIK. It looks nice and complex anyway. Yeah, although when you surpass a certain size, I think the bucket is only facing forward.
