  1. the problem with pneumatics (even in the real world) is they often don't work smoothly especially if you have multiple pistons pushing at different points to extend something. remember they're all about pressure and friction i know you said you dont want to use them but linear actuators would be better or how about using some gear racks ?
  2. unfortunately this wasn't on display in Lego House :( I'm guessing its doing a marketing / motor show tour
  3. I occasionally post links to YouTube videos of MOCs from people on here to my Work Car Club page but always make them aware its not my work I'd never consider using the video on my own YouTube channel though
  4. I’ve reported it and had a response from TLG. I think if we find these sites and report them we can hopefully help TLG. They may never fully win the war but at least a few battles
  5. I reported another one to TLG today ... http://funtoysuk.com/ another blatant copy of the Lego site offering half price stuff and even a login page!
  6. @Lipko I don’t think a mandatory WIP update would mean you can’t restart a build during a competition. I remember the MASK competition where my WIP thread told the story of how my idea and build changed completely and I had 3 completely different ideas.
  7. Because I’m an engineer by profession and I love solving problems. I find Lego building helps me switch off. As to why Technic ... well I do have a small collection of System models (mainly the Creator Expert cars), I think mainly as it seems a bit more easier to explain over building with System stuff being an adult :)
  8. A pure / striped down competition would be good. Think we have a load of ideas here for @Jim and @Milan to take onboard
  9. I think the classes of build skill is a good one @Jim I can appreciate how some people if they enter to win may be scared off by the “professionals” on here. I’m in constant awe of all you with proper Lego building areas and photo tables.
  10. That’s not entirely correct as if you read the voting rules the public have part of the vote and the moderators the rest. I guess this is to occasionally balance it out so the same people don’t win time and again. We had one competition with multiple classes to which took into consideration past performance
  11. Thanks for the detailed explanation it’s a very impressive model, what’s an RTC bearing ?
  12. I’m sure lots of people were affected by the summer holidays. For me the greater challenge is when the “boss” at home will let me have a few hours build time. is it mad that I’m looking forward to TC15 already?
  13. I enter the competitions because I like that it gives me a topic to build to. Never entered because of specific prizes. I think the Technic mugs were the best prize so far.
  14. 10: 10 5: 6 8: 4 1: 3 11: 2 4: 1 Some great models, please to see both mini and Technic fig scale. good luck everyone
  15. Didn’t realise until seeing this thread that there’s a whole lot of stuff under a hole. Fantastic motion of the model
  16. @Bublehead that’s why I only ended up with 7 cars on my ride. Technic dogs are a great scale to work with and I would love to see them come back and TLG release a series of sets at that scale
  17. so are we expecting a flood of entries today and tomorrow ? I'm looking to see everyones creations I managed to redo my video as i wasn't happy with it
  18. Just updated the video slightly ... and realised I forgot to include the control booth in my dimensions! Here’s some photos of the final model I made it modular I was determined to get the mechanism as accurate as possible to the real ride including putting 4 caster wheels on the bottom. This also helps create the right noise for the ride. Simple friction is used on the safety bars The drive track is located in a channel as I found it wandered on the drive wheels. Hope you all liked the final model.
  19. The actuators and drill to do the bodywork shaping is a stroke of genius!
  20. Great model Erik, seen one in real life and it’s a scary looking ride. I like how you realised the control panel.
  21. So the build is done ... I haven’t counted the number of Grey 5x11 panels but I can also tell you my 3L blue pin tray is also quite empty! During the “run in” this week I rebuilt the central black frame completely. Rebuilt the drive mechanism 4 times! But surprisingly the hut and fence came together quickly. Hope you enjoy it
  22. 6. The WHIP At the start of this competition I knew exactly what I wanted to build, a Technic Figure scaled version of a ride I loved as a kid ... The American Whip. The original opened in 1914 at Coney Island, NY, mine was in the seaside town I grew up in. Tech Specs: Operated by an IR Speed Remote driving Unimog wheels powered by 2 x PF XL motors It’s a staggering 161 studs long by 73 studs wide, excluding the control booth! 7 numbered cars for ultimate enjoyment Thread: Enjoy, Seasider
  23. Finished ... ... entry to be posted later today (hopefully)
  24. I’m hoping it’s in Lego house next weekend :)
