Wow; I just got the last copy of the Protector of Stone in a local store. If I manage to get the Protector of Jungle and LoSS somehow then I'll end up having the entire 2015 Winter Wave! Just gotta avoid them online scalpers... EDIT: And now I just found a Bricklink seller offering the Hero Pack for $0.30 with no set minimum purchase. Wow. Assuming shipping isn't more than a dollar or two; today must be my lucky day...

Yes my number 1 complaint was the dialogue and predictable plot. The art style was gorgeous though, but that alone a good story doesn't make.

I like a lot of the G2 sets. 2015's Toa wave blew me out of the water and I collected them all. While I was at first underwhelmed by the Protectors; I now have four of them, plus Ekimu, a %95 finished custom Takua, and skeletal frames reserved for an eventual take on G2 Hahlii and Jaller. 2016 has had less highlights, but I have no doubt Umarak the Hunter is one of my favorite Bionicle characters of all time. But about the story... meh. I get why they chose a simplistic approach, and the 2015 webisodes were fun; even if they lacked depth. But JtO let me down big time. I also found the first graphic novel and it literally took me five minutes to skim read the whole thing, so I wasn't to impressed with it either. As I have said before, even if Bionicle gets canceled, it will be enough for me to continue the story in my mind and build MOCS for it, since I was highly impressed by the CCBS system when I first got my hands on it.

What was the last movie you watched?
xboxtravis7992 replied to EbonHawk's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Last week I watched The Dark Knight; I haven't seen it in a few years. Still very well done, even though the story now is ingrained in my brain. I think my favorite character is the unnamed prisoner in the last scene with the scar/tattoo thingy on his face.Honestly that guy deserves more credit than he gets. -
I still hope Megablocks screws up bigtime somehow; and Lego takes a stab at the Halo license after them. I just drool trying to imagine how well an official Pelican would look like if it was designed by the same designer as the first Marvel Quinjet Still to be honest, its not going to happen for a long time... Also, I want to see some more western stuff; I know western movies are few and far inbetween these days; but Lone Ranger Lego left me a desire to see more (its a pity the movie sucked so badly)

Still no sign of any Summer 2016 sets in my local Wal-Mart. That's okay, I might as well order via Lego.com anyways. Need to get them VIP points!

Maybe they think by posting in sub forums no one will notice as fast. Same spammer made a new account after his Train Tech posts got trashed and started junking up the Historic Themes forum to. Gosh these people are a pain in the butt.
-
Well that was cleaned up fast. Still I thought that was the least likely forum to ever be hit by spam. With that happening now I expect spam to strike any forum by the end of the week! The funny thing was all the spam was in Chinese with names of American universities randomly thrown in there... Go figure. The funny thing is had they posted this photo from Wikipedia and then posted their spam it might have passed as a legitimate Train Tech post!

I never thought I'd see Train Tech targeted by spammers in a million years... THE END IS NIGH!!

This explains what the reshoots for Rogue One added:

But the Grand Emporium is a set? I own it...

Awesome, this MoC has great character!

Yeah it was Megablocks that does Turtles now. You know if Lego got the Trek license they could run it like the Simpsons and Disney lines, two series of Collectible figures to cover characters across the franchise, and one or two D2C UCS sets. That way it can appeal more to adult collectors, and not overlap with Star Wars's sale strategy.

This is very spectacular. Awesome dialed to 11.

Independence Day Again? Yeah or nay?
xboxtravis7992 replied to xboxtravis7992's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Good point I didn't dig up to much on the plot. I sorta saw the trailer and was to busy thinking "Why does Independence Day 2 look like a prequel to Ender's Game now?" -
Now that Captain America: Civil War has come and gone, I find myself not to hyped for other films coming this summer. But then it occurred to me we are getting a sequel to the 1990's film Independence Day. As a kid I rather enjoyed the original film. Americans dogfighting space aliens. Will Smith punching a space alien and declaring "WELCOME TO EARTH!" The fact the filming location of "Area 51" in the film was located an hour and a half drive from my hometown. And oh yeah, humans nuking a mother ship, all while using a dial up computer. Yeah. But despite that nostalgia I just can't get hyped for the new film. The trailers make it seem in 20 years the humans made a quantum jump in technology... okay, maybe a little rushed. But apparently the resource starved aliens made a technology jump to? (They must have learned a lot studying captured Windows 94 computers they found on earth

I like the idea of Minifigure scale mech builds that come with both a minifigure and a CCBS style mech. Seeing how much minifigure collecting is driving the Lego market right now would be a good thing for CCBS, especially if the mech's were piloted by cool figures. I also hope more Sytstem and Technic compatibility is showcased with future CCBS sets. We have seen a few official sets using all three systems together (Hulkbuster comes to mind at least with System and CCBS in the same set); but I think it would be good for Lego to showcase how well all their building methods combine. Another cool idea for a theme would be something insect/alien or at least organic based. It might be time for constraction to ditch the robot focus and try and do something new and drastically different. Slizers-RoboRiders-Bionicle-Hero Factory-Bionicle G2 are all very cyborg/robot based themes and it is high time for a change in style.

Less than a week away from Agents of Shield Season 3 arriving on Netflix; this will finally be my chance to catch up completely with the series; I will then DVR season 4 and watching it in near real time. I am curious to see how the show ties into Civil War in its season finale episodes.

2016: A Disappointing Year?
xboxtravis7992 replied to Sir Brickalot's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That's it! We haven't had a new Creator Expert D2C Train Set in more than three years! Rumors of a new one this winter be darned! Lego is out to ruin my life by producing products I don't want! Wah wah wah! You'd think their main target audience is children or something! Unless this year produces the exact set I want I will declare it a complete waste of ABS granules! Now do you see why I find it so darn ridiculous the Historic faction of the community is acting like they are? Give it time, Lego doesn't always run all themes at once. Almost every other group of the community has had to live through their favorite themes being cancelled for a while, Lego Space, Lego Trains, Bionicle fans, Harry Potter Fans, etc. the list just goes on and on! I will gladly wait for another year or two if Lego doesn't release another Creator Train right away. If Bionicle is cancelled I'll gladly continue MOCing sets and enjoying the lore. Heck, if even Lego Star Wars is canceled (ridiculous to think of, but you never know what is possible) I will gladly collect my own bricks to create what I want. Just because Lego isn't producing exactly what you want doesn't mean they haven't made it already, or that they will make it again. Plus it is no restraint to go and Bricklink your own bricks and build what you want! So stop whining and get MOCing and make something great. Continue with this entitlement that "Nexo-Knights hurts my feelings 'cause it isn't more Lord of the Rings" and I swear historic themes will become the laughing stock of the Lego fan community. -
Oh yeah my mother could go on for hours about every variant of Pride and Prejudice she has ever seen. I can recall at least four she has watched: Newer Theatrical Film with Keith Knightly, 4-5 Hour long BBC Film, Provo Utah Pride and Prejudice (not joking), and Bollywood Pride and Prejudice. :P I don't get it, but she loves them like crazy. Oddly enough she has yet to see the zombie version:D

Bionicle 2016 Story Discussion & Rumors
xboxtravis7992 replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
That last phrase I highlighted on your quote reminds me of this David Bowie song for some reason: But yeah, changes might be a reality that has affected Bionicle hard. I know myself that I have changed a lot since G1 happened especially in my Lego interests; Creator Expert sets, Trains, and cool licensed sets interested me a lot more than the last years of Bionicle or the run of Hero Factory did. In fact I think the only reason I have invested so much in Bionicle G2 was not because of the themes strong points but the nostalgia factor that when I bought a G2 set in 2015 it had been eight years since my last Bionicle set, and my amazement that the theme which had been infamously cancelled had been revived. Doing the thought experiment in mind, had Bionicle not been cancelled in 2010, I doubt I would have cared for it in 2015. So sure there are some nostalgic persons in the community like me willing to give G2 a shot, and enjoyed the new CCBS system. But there are also people who didn't. And possibly kids who couldn't care less. The world has changed, and maybe Bionicle just can't find a place anymore in it. Still... Nostalgia can be a strong thing. What is not to say that in 20 years some Hollywood big-shot will pitch a Bionicle film to Lego that will reboot the franchise in a massive way. If that happens all I hope for is the film isn't directed by the likes of Michael Bay -
"Scotty, it looks like our engines are bending off!" "That's impossible, gravity doesn't work like that in space!"
-
True I guess. And the fanboys with the money will be buying both themes anyways. One possibility though I forgot to consider. Paramount owns rights to the films, but CBS owns rights to the TV series... The Megablocks sets are based on the TV series, what if their license doesn't include the films? Could be a strange loophole to allow Lego to run a film based set line. Still, it would limit most sets to post-2009 Trek, or maybe the occasional Enterprise-E or Enterprise-A model.

Unfortunately Star Trek has joined Halo on the list of "licenses Megablocks has that I wish Lego had." Megablocks has been slowly churning out Star Trek sets, although they have a TOS bent for adult collectors and don't seem to be as common on store shelves. "I'm sorry Jim, but the chance of Lego licensing Trek right now is dead." :) Like Halo though; Trek has a few obstacles to be a TLG brand even if Mega loses their license someday. As long as TLG is running Star Wars sets I doubt they will ever adopt another Sci-Fi franchise that involves space ships and lots of aliens. The only reason I think Dr. Who didn't step on Lego Star War's toes is because Dr. Who is aimed more at AFOLs, has a more limited production, and has few ship or vehicle sets (okay that Phone Booth is kind of a ship, but not in the sense an X-Wing is a ship...). In comparison what kind of sets could Trek or even Halo produce? Ships and vehicles; which is unfortunately the bread and butter of Lego Star Wars. Lego doesn't want to self cannibalize sales of Star Wars sets. If Lego produced a Trek theme alongside Star Wars Christmas shopping would not be a decision of "What if Lego's coolest set now..." but a decision of "Do I want the Millennium Falcon or the Enterprise-D this Christmas?" It would split the consumer base. Again the same problem with Halo, "Do I want an ODST drop pod or a Droid Escape set?" That is a reason it is unlikely Lego will take on those themes. (Not to mention %90 of Halo's material is rated M in the US...). Star Trek might not have the intense violence of Halo, but it would cannibalize Lego Star Wars big time.

Bionicle 2016 Story Discussion & Rumors
xboxtravis7992 replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Take the mask of his face; Umarak reverts to normal (or dies?) and then everybody lives happily ever after... Until 2017's plot starts. No real surprises there... I bet the Umarak Hunter mask with Ekimu is to be slapped on Umarak's face after the Mask of Control is removed. And yeah I've derided the pessimism this year, but I have no qualm in commenting on what I see as errors in the story. Declaring a state of panic due to our perception of the line's success is one thing; adding constructive criticism without saying outright "it sucks" is another. Any critique directed towards the line should be well thought out and as factual as possible, especially seeing Lego probably has their own ways to monitor fan reaction; just saying "it sucks" might cause them to drastically change the line without truly knowing what we disliked about it. I'll call it the "Halo 4 to Halo 5" effect, a lot of fanboys criticized the story of Halo 4 for the sake of criticism, but the creators of the game listened to their critiques and made a far more inferior story in Halo 5 to try and appease fanboy demands without actually realizing what the fanboys truly disliked in the first place. I don't want Lego to take a similar route hearing nothing but "G2 Sucks" without knowing what we think was right about it, lest they actually make the line worse trying to appeal to our un-cohesive complaints. Mind you I have typed out some strange opinions about the line before so maybe I am not the best one to judge what is a valid complaint about the line
