  1. Myself being quite a regular visitor to and a huuuuge admirer of London, this is amazing! All the buildings are instantly recognisable but the best thing is that you put them all in a neatly arranged layout, complete with river and roads. What about adding some 1x1 bricks with headlight to the side of the display to represent the tube tunnels? Good luck if you build more.
  2. Sorted most of 1x1 round plates. Posted on our LUG website. Built section 3 of Haunted House. Posted on EB.
  3. I remember watching something like Great Railway Journeys when I was a child and it was quite fascinating for me back then. At present Thomas the Tank Engine is the most favourite train-related show in our home, courtesy of my children. Though a kids series, the railway infrastructure shown is quite inspiring. Sometimes I must refrain from watching it in order no to get too much ideas. The other show that you mentioned is actually called Chuggington, but it is computer animated and in my opinion not even half as visually appealing as Thomas. But my elder son likes it anyway.
  4. You captured it very well, especially the roof and the brick walls.
  5. I cannot but repeat what everyone has already said: this is amazing, both in shape and colour scheme. The fact that it is working too makes it even more special. I'm pretty sure it's going to be one of the highlights of the event.
  6. The shape and the colour of the sports car make it really look a pure racing machine. Both front and rear end give it a true racing appearance. And the police car is obviously designed for a very high speed chase if I look only at the rear wing. Keep up the good work.
  7. Very nice car. You created some very interesting and unique details with all that snoting. I like especially the narrowing effect and the smooth transit from 5 to 4 studs width in the middle - I wonder how does it look like when viewed from above.
  8. That's an interesting fusion of two original buildings. At first glance it may look a bit plain outside and slightly lacking height for a 16-wide modular, but it's the interior that makes this mod so special. The pizzeria is very nicely designed - very spacious and with an interesting colour scheme. The buffet is also a nice and realistic detail. Well done!
  9. There was always a shortage of bricks of the same colour when playing with lego as a child, so I mostly had no other option but building in rainbow mode. What I remember most is arranging 2x4 bricks in stripes when I built walls or castles or anything larger. Nowadays the rainbow mocing is not really an issue, though I still build in multicoloured mode, but only the parts of the mocs that are invisible from outside, such as inner supports etc. Some prototypes are also built in rainbow style but then I replace the bricks with more suitable colours.
  10. When the only point of sightseeing is not the interest in / admiration of the object you are viewing but how could you build it out of lego bricks.
  11. That's a very nice expansion of GE. I like the windows - they make it look like a restored industrial building and that fits the concept of the car museum perfectly. The 'Museum' sign on the roof and snoted road are also amazing. Well done!
  12. My criteria for a Lego set: the usefulness of parts for mocing. When I buy mayself a set I only build it once and then disassemble it and use the parts for mocs. The only exception so far is Emerald Night which I left assembled and use it as it is in my displays (with mocs, of course ). My children's criteria for a Lego set: the playability of a set. They don't care much how the set looks but how can they play with it. Though they sometimes play even with the things that I would have never thought to be playable. So I believe if I gave them Tower Bridge of something similar they would probably find a way how to play with it too.
  13. No, the reason being I have no mocs recently that I had to abandon altogether when I was already halfway through. If something doesn't work out as I have imagined in the first place I always try to find an alternative solution and as I don't build very complicated mocs I always managed it so far. I don't keep record of my work in progress either so even if I had to abandon a moc there would probably remain no evidence whatsoever of it unless it was something very interesting that I might re-use in another moc.
  14. If this person is a true AFOL I hope that new BL will be managed and operated with heart too and not only with $$$ in mind. Some changes / upgrades would definitely be appreciated, though the overall functionality is still quite good for me now, and what is more important, it still runs perfectly on older browsers too.
  15. No, you don't sound rude at all. Interestingly, my opinion is completely contrary to yours. I think that TLG deliberately makes such big sets of real buildings as they are simply more recognisable than fictional buildings and thus more appealing to a wider range of AFOLs. And I prefer it this way, assembling it over the course of few days.
  16. Having compared the sheer number of these packs and the limited number of sets that were released in this period one might begin to think that Lego was focused more on individual parts than sets at the time. Though it would be rather impractical to construct a proper house or anything if you had to separately gather bricks, doors, windows, roof elements etc. than simply getting a set which contained all of these in a lesser amount. All in all it was an interesting concept that probably won't reappear, at least not in such extent.
  17. You captured it very well. Having built it with just plain and basic bricks gives much better overall effect than using all sorts of special bricks and joints.
  18. Fantastic work timmyc1983. A very modern-looking steel-and-glass modular building that would be a perfect complement to the new 'city corner'. The interior is amazing too, especially small details such as the basin in the office and the keypad lock. The vault content is also nicely presented. Very well done!
  19. For me it's more amazing to see such a vast number of 50 years old packs all in one place. Even the boxes don't show too much deterioration at first glance. I agree these packs were a perfect complement to the sets available at the time. Eagerly awaiting more images.
  20. This is awesome! The whale is simply amazing. I've been thinking for a long time about re-creating a scene from HHGTTG in such a fashion but couldn't come up with anything yet. Though your creation will certainly give me some inspiration. Hope you did well in the contest.
  21. A nice fusion of contemporary buildings and building techniques and classic town elements. It's obvious what I mean with these. Another two things that stand out are the underpass and the roads. The underpass with a railway track above is a wonderful addition to any city layout. And tiled roads look much better than ordinary road plates even though they take up loads of specific parts.
  22. This is what I call creativity. Very nice creation. I suppose that the tree and the red and white plates are just put on the green base and not attached to it. This means that you had to build the tree perfetly in balance to prevent it from tipping over. Well done!

Thanks Chilis. The brick count is a very rough estimate, there might be just as well 10.000 bricks or more (or less)... I didn't count them as I built. I could have counted them when I was disassembling the thing but I didn't either. The tram tracks are ordinary rail tracks with tiles on exposed studs (and a layer of plates under the tiles as the rails alone are two plates high). All the roads are entirely snoted, i.e. built of bricks horizontally. It is here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=82113 Enjoy.
  24. A very good one for a start. The house has a nice colour combination and some interesting details such as brick wall for the garage and the arch above the balcony door. And the garden adds the finishing touch to the entire creation. Keep up the good work.
  25. Exactly. Even though it is all EU, it is actually very country-specific when it comes to final retail prices. So it is not one big market just as US is. Take into account all other country-specific things such as logistics, promotional material etc. and you can clearly see the difference.
