Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Rogue Angel replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
I apologize for my long hiatus. I was finishing up a project at work that I had been working on for the past year, and the deadline was this week. I will be updating the first post with all of our current members, and I will be posting the next task shortly. Dagashy - Welcome to Avalonia! DeGothia - You're Benoic Countryside is lovely, and is very reminiscent of MikeyB's builds. Wedge09 - I like the farmer's fields, and your use of the fedoras for your farmers. Hammerbro33 - Excellent minifigs! I will have to post my Elves soon. They are along the same lines as a number of your figs. I love the antlers! I may actually have to pick those up myself. I present my own Avalonian troops: (I would have more heavy armour, but I'm still using the armor pieces for Avalonian Sigfigs.) I will be posting my Elven Armies shortly in a separate thread, but they inhabit all of the realms of Historica, not just Avalonia. -
SoNE Contest Episode II: Escaping from the wreckage
Rogue Angel replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
I was considering using a Rancor or Dewback myself, but I wasn't sure how many parts they would count as, which is always vague with figures and creatures. I think the part restriction to specific sets was a great idea, and wouldn't mind seeing it again in the future. -
The base plate was an excellent choice. I like the laser turret in the top right and the generator detail with the 4x1 lt bley slopes in the bottom right corner. Good job!
-
I like the crab a lot, and the dish is well done too. Good job!
-
Beautiful ship (as always) and I love the speeder too - It's perfect for the Rebellion. Great entry!

I love the sancrawler! The forced perspective is a stroke of genius!

[SoNE Ep. II] From the Vulture's Eye
Rogue Angel replied to Ninja Nin's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
I really like the use of the tail pieces in the cockpit, and I really like the engine in the back. The baseplate was also a great choice! I agree that this isn't quite OTish, but I think it could definitely be an alien manufacturer, like something from Sullust or Kiffex or the Bacta planet (can't remember the name from the Rogue Squadron books). Nice build! -
[SoNE Ep. II] Fraternizing with a broken empire
Rogue Angel replied to pihlbrick's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
I like the speeder, and I was going the same route as the FWAT myself early on in my build. I was going to use treads instead, but I didn't have any in black. I wanted to use those 8x16 plates to make something big, but settled on my smaller tank. Good choice on the wheels for extra parts - it really sets your build apart!- 11 replies

I love the hut! Some great other features too with the radar dish, the skull and the ground cables. You made great use of your additional parts too, IMO. The sails are great, as is the addition of the roof piece. I was expecting this with more of the other episode II entries too.

The speeder is definitely my favorite part of this build. I love the design, especially the engines. good work!

The Pagoda almost makes it seems like he's been living in style out here in the middle of the desert! Nice compact ship.

Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka — Introduction and Discussion
Rogue Angel replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
I have a couple of comments - Extending the deadline on the day of the deadline doesn't really help the people that were working to get a build done, It helps those that hadn't really started on theirs yet. An extension at this point would be more to try to get other people that were not planning to enter. - I agree with LegoFjotten that closing Tatooine based on this challenge would be a significant setback to freebuilds. That means that if the Rebels were to win, all Imperial free builds must be on Eurbrikkia or in space. Tatooine is the planet that people are most familiar with, and lends itself to builds with it's unique architecture. - I would like to see more notifications in the other threads in the future if Episode guidelines are changed. If Mstr of Pppts had not posted in my Episode II entry, I would have had no idea that it was now illegal. -
After what had seemed like an eternity, the storm had died down. The approaching cloud of sand had covered the entire horizon, and we were right in the center of one of the desert seas. If we hadn't been in the middle of a firefight with the Imps, we would have seen it coming and been able to reach cover in time, but something in the area had been wreaking havoc on our comms. It was probably why the Black Sun had chosen this location for their hideout... if it hadn't been wiped out. From all the screeching of metal and violent impacts to our tank, you would have thought I were in the middle of one of those enormous demolition droids they use on Coruscant. Luckily the hull had held, and I had survived the storm. I had been in the bottom of a large canyon, and the sandstorm had pretty much whipped everything around, and dropped it back in the same spot. There was debris everywhere. There were still some relatively intact vehicles, thankfully, and I had been searching for functioning power cells and repulsors. There was a scattering of parts from the vehicles in the battles - Imperial TIE fighters, Rebel SoroSuub Repulsor Tanks, what was left of a Corellian snub fighter - and tons of debris. I had yet to come across any other survivors, and counted myself incredibly lucky - the Force had been with me. The eyeball's cockpit was still relatively functional, as well as two of the repulsor wings from the tanks. I had managed to cobble together a TIE Ugly that should be able to reach civilization. The hull still seemed to be intact, althought I wouldn't need space vacuum integrity, just enough to keep the sand out. I couldn't believe the transparisteel had survived the storm, but that made this a valuable piece of hardware. Just tack on some Y-wing engines or X-wing S-foils, and I'd have a perfectly functional TIE-Ugly. I had been relieved to see the Jawa, It was incredible how quickly it was on the scene - it's like they have a sixth sense for scavenging. I had discovering the functioning repulsor wings while the Jawa was scavenging, which would let me move the eyeball cockpit back to town where I could work on an Ugly. The Jawa tried to say he had scavenging rights to everything as it was on his "land". He traded those rights for the chassis of my R2 unit pretty quickly though, and left me alone. Just a couple more hours, and this thing will be operational. Then I can search for any more survivors and see if I can locate this Black Sun hideout. I used 20 additional parts for this build. 3 extra base plates, 1 jawa head, 1 brown hood, 1 droid head, 1 2x4 light bley tile, 2 2x6x1 light bley curved slopes (Tank cockpit), 1 white 6x8x2 inverted slope (Tank cockpit) 6 8x6x1 black curved inverted slopes (Repulsor wings), 1 additional 6x6x1 2/3 dark bley TIE bracket (Repulsor wings), 1 windshield piece (Tank), and 2 6x6x2 octagonal hemisperes (TIE cockpit)

How Many Mirkwood Elf Army Sets Do You Plan on Buying?
Rogue Angel replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'm calculating their worth to me. That is how much I would pay for them and value them at. I would not buy the Warg for more than $7 and I would pay up to $6 for the haired Elf. I realize they are not all the Bricklink values, but I like to get a sense as to how much army builders are worth before I buy them.- 102 replies

How Many Mirkwood Elf Army Sets Do You Plan on Buying?
Rogue Angel replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Oh, I agree that the Rohan soldier and Eomer are infinitely better than the two orcs if you are comparing that way, but I also feel that 3 Mirkwood Elves and Thranduil are far better than 4 Uruk Hai, but I was trying to be unbiased in terms of "3 nonunique units in armor and a nonunique-able Lurtz-ish vs 2 non-uniques in hoods, 1 unique and 1 non-unique with hair" and "1 nonunique and 1 unique vs 2 nonunique" The Uruk Hai are all non-unique, and the best you could want (short of the white hand) for Uruk Hai, while the Elves could have all had hair pieces, and could have had armor and could have had new prints, but I value any one of those Elves over any Uruk Hai every time. As I view it, the hooded Elves are worth $4 a piece ($3 for torso and legs, $1 for hood), Thranduil is worth $5.00 ($4.00 for better torso and $1.00 for cape) and the haired Elf is worth $6 ($3.00 for torso and legs and $3.00 for hairpiece). The Warg is worth $7.00, the saddle is worth $0.50, the shields are worth $1.00 each, the long sword is worth $0.50 and the Gundabad Orcs are worth $5.50 ($2.50 per orc and $0.50 for shoulder piece) until I get 10 Gundabad Orcs, at which their value will drop to $2.00 for me. Some might value the shoulder piece at $1.00, but it's just an accessory that looks nice on Orcs, but I wouldn't buy extra once I have 2 or 3. This gives a total set value of $34.50 not counting any bricks, so as soon as this set is 15% off, it pays for itself IMO In Uruk Hai Army, Eomer was worth $5.50 ($3 for useful torso and legs, $1.00 for cape, $1 for shield and $0.50 for semi-useful helmet), the Rohan soldier was worth $3.50 ($3 for useful torso and legs, $0.50 for semi-useful helmet) (BTW, if Rohan soldier would have been more readily available, I would have valued him at $5.00, but with only the 1, it's too expensive to get a halfway decent army of them, so I just use the torso and ditch the helmet.) The armored Uruk Hai are worth $3.50 ($2.50 for Torso, Legs and head, $0.50 each for helmet and armor), the Lurtz Uruk Hai is worth $3.00 ($2.50 for torso, legs and head and $0.50 for hair piece), the horse is worth $2.00, the saddle is worth $0.50, the spear is worth $0.50 and the 2 orc swords are worth $0.50 each for a grand total of $26.50 without any bricks. So technically Uruk Hai army has more value relative to the retail price 88.6% vs 86.25%, but the pieces in Mirkwood are much more useful to me as I already own a ton of light grey. I agree that the modularity of the set is very nice, but once I had 2 of the Uruk Hai armies, that was no longer relavant for me.- 102 replies

How Many Mirkwood Elf Army Sets Do You Plan on Buying?
Rogue Angel replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I don't know why people would think Uruk Hai Army is so much better than Mirkwood Elf Army. You get a significantly bigger set with a warg as well, plus, you don't get screwed like you did with Rohan soldiers. (Yes Eomer is nice, but we will probably never see a Rohan soldier again, so it was a missed chance.) Here is how they measure up from a non-biased view (Better option shown in blue) Uruk Hai Army Mirkwood Elf Army 3 Uruk in Armor & Lurtz * 2 Hooded Elves, a Haired Elf and Thranduil 1 Rohan soldier & Eomer * 2 Generic Orcs 1 Horse * 1 Warg 2 Uruk Swords & 1 Spear* 2 long bows, longsword & black spear 2 Uruk & 1 Rohan Shield * 2 Elven shields 2 wood tiles & 5 brick bricks * 3 new lt bley arches, 2 new brown arches & 2 lt bley new facet bricks $0.13/piece * $0.145/piece Uruk Hai has a slight advantage but I feel the Warg makes up for that. Now there are some other less distinct comparisons that make me like Mirkwood more. Uruk Hai are fodder for me, while Rohan and Elves are the reason I buy sets. I don't care that much if my Elven army is facing 40 Uruk Hai and 20 Gundabad Orcs, or 20 Uruk Hai and 20 Gundabad Orcs and 20 Mordor Orcs, or any combination of the 3, while I am very particular about how many Elves I am getting. Also, I prefer the tan, dark tan and browns of Mirkwood to the light bleys or Uruk Hai, and the Warg is a huge bonus for the Mirkwood set. Also, the piece cost might be higher, but you get bigger pieces on average in Mirkwood. In my mind, Mirkwood is a better set overall, and I will probably be buying just as many as I did Uruk Hai (6). If one or two of the Elves would have been armored, it would be Mirkwood, no contest, if I hadn't already purchased 30 Mirkwood Elf Polybags, it would be Mirkwood, no contest, if the Elven shields were new molds instead of Ovals, it would be Mirkwood, no contest, If low-ears had a more useful head piece, or if we would have gotten 2 more hair pieces (Elf or orc), it would be Mirkwood, no contest. If the Uruk Hai set would have included 2 Rohan soldiers and no Lurtz.... I would feel the two sets were even (with the present makeup). I am happy with the Mirkwood Elves set, even though I think there were a number of small things they could have done to change this from a good set to a fantastic set. My hope is that we get Elven Armor is BO5A.- 102 replies

Alcarin, I was referring to U.S. buyers hoping that the dollar cost would be less than the Euro cost. As I said, if we get the sets at the same dollar price as Euro price, we will alteady be getting a great deal. People were complaining about a $20 set with 3 figs, and it's going to be closer to $30 then $20 anyway.

I picked up a couple of these in the last couple of months. I have had no major issues with the figures, but the base plate is worthless. Still a great army builder (I agree that the dragon pawn face was a horrible choice).
-
If you're expecting the dollar cost to be less than the Euro cost (29.99 vs 29.99), I have a feeling you will be sorely dissappointed. If the euro and dollar costs were the same, it would already be a significant savings for the US customer.
