SoNE Contest Episode II: Escaping from the wreckage
Rogue Angel replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Excellent concept! Looks like we Rebels may have a significant advantage... For once. -
I agree with Faefrost. We could be getting Beorn's house, the Carrack, Thranduil's Hall... The PJifying of so many sets (Attack of the Wargs, Mirkwood Spiders, all of wave 2 Hobbit) has to drive down sales to hardcore Tolkien fans. I loved LotR, but I can't stand AUJ. The non-book sets hold no appeal to me other than parts packs and large army builders. In response to DL, Smaug's lair, the outpost on lonely mountain (can't remember the name of the stone chamber at the point), Bo5A, Bilbo with the Arkenstone...

Excellent work! I like the ground and roof detail, as well as the well. The 1x1 round plate technique always looks nice for ground floors. I look forward to seeing what's in store for Marrock.

Mpoh98 - Excellent troops, I really like how unique they are, and the use of all the lotr parts. I also like the use of the new dragon torsos - I believe it's the first time I've seen them used in GoH. Good job! Narbilu - very nice build, always good to catch up with the fortunes of the Hermesra Legions! You can still build in Albion, just track down the thread and lay your claim. In regards to free builds - you're main goal should be to flesh out the buildings or geography of your region, the history of your people, or the storyline of your character(s). We will have challenges, but you should be building for what your want to show, or to improve your own skills. If you need examples, DeGothia and MikeyB's builds often further their character's storylines, Derfel and Niku often focus on single buildings in their builds, and Siercon and Coral tend to focus on whatever strikes their fancy, or whatever build technique they're working with. Check out their entries from Book 1 (and everyone else's) here: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=66397 -
GoH Book II – Nar'Bilu 2.2 – Passage into Hemresa
Rogue Angel replied to narbilu's topic in Guilds of Historica
Excellent rock work! I like your plants and the door at the top. My one suggestion would be to add some 3x4 tree leaves at the edges of the MOC under the plants like you did on the interior, but I'm guessing the border would have made these pointless. Very nice job!- 15 replies

Clone Wars is NOT the equivalent of RotS, an actual SW movie. The Disney move was known about internally long before it was announced, so which could have been almost two years ago now, which is probably sufficient lead time for set design. I would expect Rebels sets to be released this coming August, which would synch better with a Fall premiere, and I would not be at all surprised if we didn't see another CW set after the Jan 2014 wave.

I would say LEGO has done an amazing job of keeping the new sets secret. For a while there we were getting leaked pictures a good 6 months in advance, and now we're maybe 2 months out and the only set revealed so far was planned. Quite remarkable in the internet age.

I've done this with plates instead of bricks and it worked pretty well. Definitely cheaper than the technic arm method.

Question about Yellow Castle 375/6075
Rogue Angel replied to Lego Otaku's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I believe the King's Castle also used the same technique to hold the walls together. -
I'd much rather get a Beorn over a Bolg.

Hail ZCerberus, now also a History Mod!

Congratulations Z! -
If the Slave 1 is scaled to the UCS falcon, it WILL be compatible with minifigs. That's the only reason I would get it.
-
The Slave 1 is a UCS I might actually consider buying. It could be a $200 set and theoretically scale with the UCS Falcon. It would probably come with Zuckuss and 4-LOM too....

[Castle] What do you like best? Generic or Specific?
Rogue Angel replied to Artifex's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
There is a lot of hate for Knights Kingdom 1 and 2 (specific) but they gave us 8 new factions, 8! And these include some of my favorite shields to date. This is much better than rehashing lions and dragons over and over and over again. I never follow Lego's official story for castle sets, so I'm more concerned about torsos, shields and weapons. The one benefit to a two faction line is getting multiple soldiers prints of one faction. In my mind, CMFs and LotR have done more castle than any recent theme other than the Fantasy theme (dwarves, trolls, etc) and the Dragon/Lion theme with MMV, Raid and Joust. -
Thanks for all the comments! I have updated some of the pics. Brickdoctor - I think of the rock face as diving beneath the sand and the sand itself is collected in the bowl, which is why I didn't put in a smoother transition. MstrofPppts - I think the netting can be right on for rebels. There is minimal electronic equipment, so there biggest risk is visual... normally. I also didn't want the outpost to be something the Rebels had put a lot of work into as it would probably be temporary, also, the escape passage was supposed to look rough all along, but after your comment, I couldn't not see it as a flaw, so I upgraded it. Waysofsorting - I usually have much more story then most builders to try to get you attached to the characters. I'm hoping to continue with a few of them in later MOCs. Nom Carver - thanks for the idea on the plates. I didn't want to use 2xs or 4xs because it would shade them more and the current supports would collapse. If I use this technique again, I'll use stronger supports.

I actually have a dozen already and will be happily increasing that number.

Welcome Dusty Bricks! I love your brick built wolf and you sigfig's legs. It's good to see someone utilizing a viking shield too. I can't wait to see your builds. -

Yeah, but Kaliphlin is a gimme, since it's from a Prince of Persia set, based in the desert. -

Don't let ZCereberus bother you. He's just regretting his decision to leave Avalonia. As DC said, we have are a power Mansion, and Nocturnus should fear us, as already demonstrated in the builds posted so far! Speaking of which: Buurli - Love the water work and the landscaping! Zach Mills - Nice cottage, good to see another MOC from you! MikeyB - I always like your landscaping, and seeing your phoenix guard again is a welcome sight. (I love the use of the Dastan torsos. I have a bunch of these I was going to use for Elves, but it didn't quite work out. I may have to try them out as Avalonians instead) Kerntechniker - You mounted troops are a welcome addition, as is the Dragon. Derfel - Love the troops, but that's a given, as your troops founded the Avalonian military, and were the basis for my example of Avalonian troops. The Dark Isles are well defended! Carson Haupt - Welcome back! Candia and Kronus Blacktiger - Welcome to Avalonia! You've made a wise choice. Feel free to complete Task 1 if you wish and post your militia/troops/soldiers. There have been some great posts from everyone, and we haven't even started the challenges yet! Keep up the great work Avalonians! One housekeeping note: Please post links to your free builds in this thread as many of you have already been doing. -
I was exaggerating, but it does seem like a lot of sets have them. I ended up with 20 more off Endor BPs and TIEs, so that's probably why. I wouldn't mind seeing new versions of the Stormtrooper and Rebel BPs, but I don't want them watering down other BPs. I had to buy twice as many Endor BPs to get my Endor Troopers.

Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Rogue Angel replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
Duke Blastus -Gideon's summation in the general consensus is spot on. Mkjosha - if your Mitgardian character were to travel to another guild, and your MOC portrayed that, it would count towards Mitgardia. If you made a MOC about a character from another guild, it would not count for any guild. And throwing in some Mitgardian soldiers into a Nocturnas build would not count. Check out some of DeGothia's builds for examples. -
You get a Stormie in every other OT set you buy. I wouldn't want one in the new BP. I would have preferred 2 DS troopers instead of the Royal Guards, but I'd take Royal Guards over Stormies any day. Royal Guards have been in 5 or 6 sets total with 2 of those being $250+. Plus, their pieces are useful for other builds too with the red capes and the torsos. An Imp officer would have been OK, but I'm happy with just the Death Star Gunners.

Whipping winds swept across the rocky outcropping deep in the Tatooine desert. At a casual glance, you wouldn't notice it amongst the myriad ridges and canyons that riddled the desert, but on closer inspection you might see the camoflauge netting strung from the top of the rocks, or the intermittent movement of sentries patrolling the ridge. This small depression was currently being utilized as an outpost by the forces of the Rebellion. It provided a stop over point on the trip between Mos Eisley and Mos Espa off the main travelled routes. It was remote enought that the inhabitants did not need to worry about chance Imperial patrols, but they were cautious nonetheless. Inside the outpost, the Rebels were discussing there next move concerning the visitors that had just arrived. (See prologue -still coming) Commander Eyno: "So if your credentials had passed, and the Imps had just provided your hyperspace vector, what went wrong?" Pilot: "It was a total fluke, it never should have happened, but one of the Eyeballs - looked to be fresh out of the Academy from the way that thing was rolling - overshot a turn, and was correcting his flight path, which took him right past my ship. No one EVER gets close enough for visuals in the MidRim planets, there was barely any traffic there, so there should have been no reason.." The pilot shook his head in frustration. "...but I suppose the orange sticks out like a Ronto in a herd of Nerfs, and ever since Yavin, everyone assumes an orange flightsuit means Rebel... which this time it did. I had a spare flightsuit for landside, but it's a little tight in some places, and I didn't even think twice." Commander Enyo: "And I suppose you were lucky to get out of their alive after that?" Pilot: "I had practically matched my vector at that point. The Academy kid got a lucky shot as I was jumping and nicked my starboard engine. I reverted just after I jumped out of the system and changed course for Tatooine. I thought the hit was minor, but after looking at how much damage that engine took, I guess I was lucky I didn't end up floating in deep space forever." Commander Enyo: "Well, we need to get your passenger to Mos Eisley so we can get her back in route to her destination. RogueAng, take the bike and head in to town. Talk to Rackiss and see how he wants this done. RogueAng: "Yes sir. I'll pick up some more fuel cells for the speeder while I'm in town." Commander Enyo" Right. We'll see you tomorrow." Commander Enyo: "Miss... Corinth, was it? We'll wait for Rackiss to send someone out to pick you up. We could send you in now, but there's no use putting a new face in Eisley any longer than we need to. All we need is one low life to take interest in you and it would make your life a lot more difficult. You don't want to spend anytime then you need to in that Den of Scum." Corinth: "Thank you very much sir. I appreciate everything you're doing for me." Commander Enyo: "The truth is I hate to waste the time and beingpower. Every trip back to Mos Eisley risks someone getting caught by the Imps, but you seem to be pretty important to someone in the Rebel Command, so we want to get you back on your way as soon as possible." Yelva: "Rogueang! Pick me up some Corellian Whiskey too!" Yelva turned back to face the Commander "You've got a way with words and with the ladies there Enyo, don't you." "Corinth, don't worry about it, we'd be going out on a limb for you even if you were a lowly Dug speeder salesbeing. The Commander just likes to drone on about risks and time wasting any chance he gets." Commander Enyo: "That's enough Yelva, weren't you going to take a look at that engine?" - A few hours pass- Rodian Rebel: "Ya goska dee tuzo! Beeda ni Dozno!!!! Rebel Trooper: "What are Imps doing out here?! Commander-" Commander Enyo: "I got it! Radna! Why didn't we pick these up hours ago? There's nothing out here but Tuskens and Jawas!" Radna: "I don't understand it sir! I'm still not picking up anything. No ships, no speeders, not even a walker!" Rodian Rebel: "Dee cozcoz Dewbak!" Commander Enyo cursed and started shouting commands. "Alright men, this is it! Yelva, try to get the girl out of here in your speeder. We'll cover for you as long as we can. Good luck and may the force be with you." The Rebels positioned themselves for battle as the Imperials approached. As the Imperials approached it became obvious that while they had better position, the Imperial forces far outnumbered them. The second sun was just setting as the Imperials engaged. Commander Enyo: "It's been an honor having you under my command! Let's hold them off for as long as we can to give Yelva a head start!" The fight was short and vicious, but the outcome was inevitable. It was only a matter of time before the Imperials swarmed into the outpost. It was a dark day for the Rebellion on Tatooine. To be continued in Chapter 2
