Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Rogue Angel replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks for reminding me... I have a bunch of brown suspension arms I ordered off bricknlink for trees, and I haven't been able to find them for the past month! I know they are in the house, and I've probably looked for them a good 10 times now Also, time to Boat Up Mitgardia. -
Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Rogue Angel replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Your choice of guild should be based on the guild whose building style you like the most. AVALONIA Avalonia is based upon Arthurian England, and has deep forests like Robin Hood's Sherwood Forest, but much larger. It also contains the Mystic Isles, where the mysterious druids live. The southeastern heartland of Avalonia is rolling plains and grasslands interspersed with decidous forests and savannah. Avalonia generally has a temperate climate but is colder to the north and warmer to the south. Avalonia is more of an agricultural guild, and has the greatest concentration of Elves in all the guilds. Chivalry and Might are two of the most important traits for many Avalonians. MITGARDIA Mitgardia is a mountanious region heavily forested with coniferous trees and a good portion of this land is continually covered in snow. The far northern regions of Mitgardia are tundra, with great expanses of icelocked seas. The southern end of Mitgardia is significantly warmer, and resembles Avalonia climatewise. Mitgardia has a harsh climate, and most Mitgardians are hardy survivors who have lived happily with little and less for their entire lives. A proud Mitgardian could handle themself equally in a snowstorm, a battle or a tavern. Many Dwarves and Gnomes call Mitgardia their home. KALIPHLIN Kaliphlin is reminiscent of the African and Middle Eastern deserts with many scattered oasis. The lands along the coastlines and the larger rivers are very fertile and lush. The eastern portion of Kaliphlin is primarily jungles and swampland, while the northwestern corner is more of a savannah. Kalihplin is warm year round, and the only the highest peaks usually see snow. The prime occupations of Kaliphlin are merchants and scholars. Kaliphlinites pride themselves in their ability to see profit in any situation and be wise enough to solve matters without a fight. Kalihplin is a melting pot of culture, and you can find most races represented in one of Kaliphlin's cities. NOCTURNUS Nocturnus is the most remote guild, and has the most hostile of terrains. Nocuturnus mountain ranges rival the Mitgardian ranges, but are more barren and dry. A great swamp covers southern Nocturnus and this blends into jungle as you go south. Nocturnus also contains badlands and forests, and large portions are still unexplored, or at least unknown to the residents of the other guilds, but you could most likely find any terrain you could think of somewhere within the limits of this guild. Nocturnus is home to many outcasts - Orcs, Minotaurs, Reptrians, Scoundrels, Renegades and many who are persecuted through no fault of their own. Nocturnus is also home to a fair number of Dwarves and Dragons as the well as the Drow. The standard Nocturnian does not exist as it's residents run the gammut: good, evil, vile, noble, strong, weak, cunning... Some may say that Nocturnus is more evil then good, but there are deep bias against many of the residents that are unfounded. Except the Drow. They're Evil. Edit: In the time it took me to write this up, Hammerhand already decided. Oh well, hopefully this well help someone else decide. Welcome Hammerhand and Olaf Anderson! -
Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Rogue Angel replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
We are still waiting on a few more votes for the Attack of the Drow Challenge - Mpoh, Simon, Jason, Niku, Kern, and any other Avalonians that still wish to cast a vote. Once the voting has wrapped up, I will be posting the next task - which is more of a long term task - and will be open to all guilds. We may have another all-guild task coming in the near future as well.... DG - I do not know the name of the spiked barricades, and I can't remember where I saw them (aside from WWII movies) but the Hand of Corruption troops need to discourage mounted attacks. I was going to use a felled tree trunk, but decided to go with the barriers instead. Carson - Excellent Elven build! Gideon - I am incredibly jealous of your 6 month leave. I got 2 weeks, one of which was spent in the hospital, and I accomplished exactly 0 builds during that time. Thanks for the comments on my build. I am trying to get standard barn and house designs that I can use to build a larger town. I was very happy with how the barn turned out. -
Excellent build Fantu! It's too bad you're not in Avalonia anymore.

Indeed. He was one of the biggest trash talkers in GoH, plus his builds were tremendous. -

Penkid - MikeyB is not elgible for a vote since his entry was built well in advance of this challenge. Simon - The story team will be changing as the Challenges go on. You are not eligible for this round, but anyone who posts an entry for Challenge II will be eligible for the Challenge III story team. The goal is to get as many people involved as possible. Feel free to PM if you have any ideas you would like to share. Rob - I'm glad you like the build! -
Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Rogue Angel replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
AVALONIA OCCUPIED! The Drow have succesfully captured scattered towns and villages throughout Avalonia. A handful of Avalonian Lords mustered their forces in an attempt to drive the Drow and the Hand of Corruption army back, but they lacked the full support of the other Avalonian Lords and the Drow are now firmly entrenched. The Drow have left Hand of Corruption troops to occupy the captured towns, and they have been working to fortify their holdings. The Hand of Corruption is working hard to hold these town, and have strongly manned each one. With the provisions they have captured, they are well equipped to occupy their new holdings for the forseeable future. Lord Varis has need of strong leaders to assist him in the coming days. He will be choosing from the Lords that have shown their commitment to their fellow Avalonians. Time to Vote Avalonians! [Two Avalonians will be chosen to help guide Avalonia through the coming storm. These 2 will be chosen from those that entered the Drow Challenge. The first Avalonian will be chosen by vote for the best entry. Only Avalonians may vote, and you may only vote once for 1 entry. The second Avalonian will be chosen by myself among the remaining entrants. The vote will last for approximately 1 week - or as long as it takes to hear back from the active Avalonians. Please post in this thread who you wish to vote for. The Avalonians and their entries in order of posting: (Each picture is a link to the topic, or thread page of their entry) Narbilu DeGothia Hammerbro33 Jason Cicchini The following Avalonians are also recognized for the their Anti-Drow efforts, but may not be voted for. Niku MikeyB -
This is Fantastic! What a great concept! The cutaway hobbit hole is very well done, as is the windmill. The Fabuland characters work in very well. The scale of this is quite stunning as well, and I love the trees and foliage. Amazing!

I would not expect a significant increase in value on this set as it is 30 years old already. It looks like you can get a complete set on Bricklink - supposedly with good condition figures - for $200 US while a sealed set seems to be significantly higher ($600 US+). I might lean towards the sealed set as long as the stickers have not been applied.

I missed your second paragraph the first time through. We don't want to be specific with any of this (rarity) because it all depends on who joins each guild. If someone joins Avalonia and wants to have a splinter sect of Werewolves, that is completely fine, and this might change the rarity from "Very rare" to "Uncommon", and we don't want to discourage people from using whatever they want. I would guess that a lot of people would expect Elves to be mainly in Avalonia, while I think of them as being in every guild. It's all how you want to see it, or more correctly - build it.

I envision the crocs as inhabiting both Kaliphlin and Nocturnus, the eagles as inhabiting the high places in pretty much every guild, the Drow, Orcs and Goblins infesting every guild.. I hate the fact that all of the lions of Chima have the stupid helmets, so I have not used them. The lands that certain races inhabit would almost never match guild borders in my mind, it's just that some of them prefer certain guilds or climes (Nocturnus) and some have such a small localized population that they only exist in one guild (that is known so far). Remember too that there are large portions of every guild that does not have constant or even occasional contact with the outside world, and there are plenty of surprises yet to be discovered.

Another beautiful Elf MOC! I really like the style you've created in these builds, and I hope to see more. I really like Ziphion as well. What torso are you using for her?

Recruiting an Old Friend - Challenge 1C
Rogue Angel replied to Torgar's topic in Guilds of Historica
Excellent perspective work on the first picture, excellent angled rockwork - the jutting point at the first curve in the path in the first picture drew my eyes specifically, and very nice intricate stone work on the ruins. I have to say though that my favorite part is the skeletons rising from the dead. Great build! -
Always like to see inter-guildal builds. I really like the casks on the roof and the little staircase in particular but a very nice build overall!

Beautiful build Ecc! I really like the concept, and the olive green and lt trans blue work very well together. I also really like the design fo the tower itself.

Book II-Challenge I-Category B: Umarth Umbar
Rogue Angel replied to Niku's topic in Guilds of Historica
Your builds are always so original in their technique, and this one is no different. This one is set apart as well. I really like the river base idea too. Nice entry! -
Very nice work! It's good to see the minotaurs in action, and I like the leader's horns. My favorite part of the build is the use of the whips for overgrown roots/vines - very innovative.

Book II Challenge I B: Armathian Stronghold
Rogue Angel replied to mpoh98's topic in Guilds of Historica
I love the texturing on the walls, and all of the corner techniques. The tower has a very polished look to it, and the square base with the round top work well. The use of the 2x4 double slopes is a great idea, as this the KK2 shield. Excellent work!- 25 replies

Book II Challenge 1 B: Swamplands Tower
Rogue Angel replied to Gideon's topic in Guilds of Historica
This is a superb entry! I really like your strategic use of color, the stepped rockwork, and especially the slanted orientation of the tower. I'm just starting to get into that myself. The tree and the bridge are also very well done. Great job! -
Challenge I (Category B) The tower at Blood Lake
Rogue Angel replied to de Gothia's topic in Guilds of Historica
Excellent work with the heads on pikes, the river of blood, the hanging skeleton, the border - very Nocturnian! I like the cutaway tower as well and the rockwork is very well done. Excellent entry! -
The reason I like Chima so much is that it has been giving us so many new races for Historica/Fantasy. I just wish they would have incorporated some shields into it, but I can't have everything. I have been using the following races so far: Avalonia Humans Elves Druids Dwarves Eagles (Chima) Foxfolk (Chima) Centaurs (proposed) Kaliphlin Humans Elves Mummies Snake-Peoples (Ninjago) Crocodiles (Chima) Apemen Scorpions (Chima) Mitgardia Humans Dwarves Gnomes Elves Yeti Cyclops Worgen (Chima Wolves) Nocturnus Humans Elves Dwarves Minotaurs Lizardmen (Trandoshan) Werewolves (Monster Fighters) Drow Trolls (Fantasy Era) Batlords (Batlords and Monster Fighters) Swampmen (Monster Fighters) Ravens Medusa Spiders (future)

Neither of them die. I could see a Jawa, but then maybe we would get Garindan as well.

We have now gotten Ree Yees, Max Rebo, Barada and Teebo, none of whom have lines. Ponda Baba and Dr Evazan DO have lines (even though Ponda's lines are in Aqualish) and they directly interact with Luke. Even though you may not be familiar with them, they have a relatively large part in Star Wars (as side characters go) and they do have a history in the EU. I was happier when the 2 "new" figs were attached to the Cantina. If the 3 squidwards are walking together, they may not be Bith at all, which would be very disappointing.

The Star Wars line is the main reason that I still consistently buy Lego. If it were too end, I suspect the majority of my Lego purchasing would end as well. I wouldn't be too upset as the last few years have yielded a slew of new aliens, and so I can build most of what I'd want to for Star Wars. As soon as we go the X-Wing cockpit windshield, the TIE windshield and the Falcon windshield, you could build most everything Star Wars for vehicles, and you could already build the locations beforehand. The real limitation is the mini-figures. With the (relatively) recent additions of Endor Troopers, Death Star Troopers, Cloud City Troopers and Death Star Gunners, the Imperial and Rebel forces are practically all represented. The more recent addition of Gran, Ortolans, Weequay, Klatoonians, Duros, new Twi'lek's and Ithorians and hopefully Bith and Aqualish this year pretty much wraps up the most vital races. I would still like to see a better Sullsutan, some Bothans, Quarren, Devaronians and a better Talz, but I can't really complain. The majority of the Jedi from the prequels are represented and they are remaking the CW characters without the giant eyes, so most of the Prequel stuff (that I'm concerned with) has been addressed. The only things I really want yet are Zuckuss and 4-Lom, who will hopefully be in the UCS Slave I this year, Jan Dodonna, Thrawn, Mara, Karrde, Paelleon and a Bantha. In regards to the remakes, Lego HAS to remake sets to keep the line appealing to little kids, who are usually 5-8 when they get into it, and didn't have a chance to buy the earlier sets. The kids want Luke and R2 and Darth Vader, and they want an X-Wing. You have to accept the releases to appeal to the kids, If the kids weren't buying these rehash sets, the line wouldn't be profitable enough, and we wouldn't be getting the original or more obscure stuff. Also, the rereleases are often better than the previous version, but not always, plus it lets me get a few more Y-Wings or TIEs or Gunships. I have been very happy with a few sets each year (except 2011 - and it had worthless battle packs besides), which makes the line worthwhile for me. I am excited to see what Rebels and the new movies bring. Edit: Oh yeah, I want Ephant Mon and Durge as well.

Excellent build! I really like the texturing in the wall, and the use of the horizontal headlight bricks with the 1x1 round tiles. I also really like the colors you used - the sand blue goes very well on the front, and the pinks and purples work well on the back. The gold round tiles work very well for the floor as well. Great entry!
