  1. We need more of these. EKnight
  2. In regards to playability, and 'sailing' it, it's actually quite light, compared to most my ships, easily comparable to all the official sets of it's size. having removeable sections seems to me to be a very important play feature. I know as I kid, I loved doing stuff inside of the sets, so being able to access the inside is important. Obviously some sets can still have accessibility without having to remove large sections, but some do, like 10210 Imperial Flagship, though that set is as much for an adult display as it is a toy, I guess. Colour choices, yeah, i'm not completely sold on it either, but I was trying to match the 2015 Pirate way. The ship from that wave had a lot of brown, too much in my opinion. I tried to tone it down a bit, but not too much. I still wanted it to fit the line. I would have preferred to go all blue as well, but my blue options were limited. I used what I had available, and I totally agree it's not the best. I had a couple variations, and this was the most cohesive one I came up with. And just a reminder to everyone, this is NOT a remake of the original Caribbean Clipper. It is a 2015 style ship. I used the same name because in 2009, Lego reused the name Imperial Flagship for the, well, flagship set. Other than the name, it bore no resemblance to the 6271 Imperial Flagship of the early 90s. 3. I've updated the first post with the updated version. EKnight
  4. I'm really diggin this tower technique. Are the small veritcal sections with the cheese slopes attached to the rest in any way, or are they just floating? EKnight
  5. So I went and bought the required part in black, white, and trans neon green, brown, and tried them all out. Imperial Flagship Redux colour options by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr Enough people have asked to remove the dark grey on the ship, and so I have! I have given you four options Option A, Top left. Dark grey is gone, replaced with brown. Too much brown for my taste. Option B, top right. Dark grey replaced with black. I like it more than Option A. Option C, bottom left. White stripe. It's more striking, but it strays more from the original set, which I don't know if I like or not. Original, bottom right. version 1. with the dark grey stripe. What do you all think? which one should I go with? EKnight
  6. Modern battlepacks tend to have some equipment nowadays, so I suggest giving them a cannon of sorts. EKnight
  7. Thank you for your insight! I had been looking at the figure head and wondering about it, I am glad too see someone else thinks it's too high. I will definitely go and lower it when I get the chance. I've been waiting to order parts to make the yardams and such,a nd I will eventually ri it up properly when I do. EKnight
  8. Thank you for your thoughtful response! That is a very good point, and one I did not think about. The ship definitely draws the eyes from the fort, but the fort on it's own is a bit bland. I added the ship for various reasons, mainly to add play value and conflict, but also to add colour. But, as you pointed it, perhaps it adds too much colour? I don't mind that they both share red, I think they are both distinct enough. and all the official sets used red as well, for both pirate and Armada. I wanted to add more play features, but never once did I think to add an exploding wall or something! And quite a few sets at the time had such features, too. Hmm, something to think about... I really should have thrown a shark or crocodile in... EKnight
  9. I did toy with having the leaves angled, but I felt it was too fragile. Though a lot of sets back in the day were a bit fragile, so it wouldn't stick out too much. I personally think 2 swords is better. what if you wanted to have the two pirates fight over the treasure? It's a bit unfair if one has a gun, but misses with his one shot! Giving it the dock is what this set is all about, I feel it gives it some uniqueness and would stand out among the sets back in the day. May Lego structures left out access to towers back in the day, while it is a bit irksome to some, it was well within the design of classic sets. the doorway is technically tall enough for a minifig, if just barely. EKnight
  10. There is definitely a call to eliminate the dark grey. I would have to order parts to do so, but I think I will do it. I'll buy both brown and white to see which looks better. Thank you all for your input! The Imperial Flagship is much more near and dear to my heart, for a number of reasons, but I do get that most people prefer the Caribbean Clipper. I personally think 6271 is one of the best ships Lego made, but I do have some rose coloured glasses on. At the very least, it's the best ship that had the small hulls. I just think it's so sleek, and the sails stand out among all the other ships. EKnight
  11. I LOVE the little play feature! If I was a kid, I would have had a lot of fun playing with this little set, well done! EKnight
  12. A gorgeous little sloop, very well done, looks right at home in front of Eldorado Fortress. EKnight
  13. With a 50 piece limit, I don't think I would be able to add 2 parts to hide the treasure. I do have a set of coins in the chest, I guess the pictures didn't show it. EKnight Yeah, I wasn't sure if I should have used a bigger plate or not, but with the small size of the set, i figured smaller was better, might be a bit too fragile otherwise, as well. The use of the printed panel on yellow does harken to that set, the printed panel was a big part of the set, but this one has no cannon, alas.
  14. New category, so new build from me! A total of 48 parts, though I think in those days, Lego called the head and torso one piece, so only 46, from a certain point of view Pirate's Dock by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr Pirate's Dock by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr Pirate's Dock by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr Nothing special, but it was a challenge to build something interesting with 50 parts or less. I wanted a palm tree, but with a dock, a boat was more important. EKnight
  15. After sitting on my shelf for a few months, I finally got around to making the sales. A few parts need to be swapped out when I get the correct colours, but otherwise it's done. Well, unless I want to go about doing an interior. There is plenty of room, and I left it accessible. I've updated the first post with the pictures. EKnight
  16. Awesome! So do I have to edit my post with my previous Pirate Lookout Entry, which would fit, to say it is for this category? EKnight
  17. I really should take a picture of my army, it's pretty big at this point. I do only have one Imperial Flagship, the MOC was built using parts form my collection. the sails are custom made, they look pretty good from a distance, but up close, they are definitely home made. EKnight
  18. I was looking through my old ship MOCs with my brother, as we do every now and then, and at the end, I had a nagging feeling one was missing. So I slept on it and I awoke the next morning, and I remembered a ship. I then hunted through my old photos, and thankfully, sitting in a folder on my old laptop was the missing photos. Imperial... Flagship? by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr It's a ship I built 5 or 6 years ago, maybe even 7, I'm not completely sure. But it was the first MOC I actually built with the 10210 colours. Kinda surprising given how much I love that set. Imperial... Flagship? by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr Imperial... Flagship? by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr Imperial... 19. The updates to the colours are a big improvement! The addition of the rowboat on the stern does harken to the source material well, but it sadly obscures some of the nice detailing you made. still, I think you should keep it. EKnight
  20. I'm just going to say that I understood very clearly the rules and stipulations of this contest. I do think that the two separate categories should have their own prizes. It doesn't make much sense to me to have two distinct categories if they don't have their own prize. If it was worded to say that there were simply two ways to go about building entries, sure fine, one prize works. But two categories should mean two top prizes. I do like the idea of a smaller category too, but that might be at odds with my other suggestion. would that mean there are 4 categories? A small and a large for old style and new style? Either way, more prizes equals more fun. And for the record, I didn't enter because I wanted to win. It would be awesome, but I entered because the categories gave me so much inspiration to build! Also, you have my Caribbean Clipper in the wrong category. It's a 2015 style build, not a remake of the original set. It simply used the same name, like 10210 was also called the Imperial Flagship EKnight
  21. A wonderful ship! I was hoping to see someone do the Skulls Eye for this contest. One thing that I would do is give it the green cannon flaps back. I understand your reasoning, but the ship is rather dull. Maybe perhaps give it the regular red instead of dark red? It's a wonderful ship, but it's just a bit drab and colourless compared to the original, though I will admit the colour scheme of it is a tad messy. EKnight
  22. I definitely knew one was called the Sea Hawk, but had forgotten which one. and now that you mentioned Sea Lion, I remember that as well. The names make sense in context of the figure head to the one ship. I had the Caribbean Clipper in mind for sure when I made the figure head. I thought it a nice little nod, and adding the wings made different and more dynamic. I don't think structurally I could swap out anything of the deck for a grate of some sorts. The inhabitant of the cabin will have to live by candlight, I guess. Swapping the sails for such a colour would be straying too far away from the source material for my liking, plus I would have to go through the hassle of making a set of sails instead of using the pre-existing sails. And same for the lanterns, the blue ones are iconic to me, so I will keep them. I really wish Lego would release that part in that colour again, to be honest. EKnight
  23. I tried to keep the bottom layer of sand to a minimum of parts, but since I was also trying to go for an asymmetrical build, it was difficult. Especially with my very limited selection of tan wedge plates. I hope to see some such MOCs! I love hearing that I have inspired others to MOC. EKnight
