Indeed, Eurobricks is full of great tutorials, and the Pirate section is especially great. For me Hamilton is a very Piratey name mostly because of the show Black Sails. It's quite probably that the characters are based on historical figures, as many are in that series. I recommend that show to anyone wanting to get in a good Piratey mood. EKnight

I was hoping someone would notice the loose board. It is indeed very subtle. I was trying to keep the MOC under 200 parts, I definitely felt a bit restrictive on how to do the water. @Math Wizard mentioned it was very gridlike, and I agreed with that statement even when building it, but again, piece count. Perhaps I shall expand the MOC after the contest. I do have a fair bit more tiles to work with. EKnight

Here is the topic: I had another tile from that same set, but "Nancy G. Roman" didn't quite have the same feel to it. The shield used is this one from the Egyptian Warrior from Series 13 CMF. All the parts are official Lego parts and all gold. Head and hair are from this figure, torso and legs from the Flying Warrior from Series 15 CMF. Just added some gold arms and hands, which come from plenty of figures, like C-3PO I likely won't. It's just not my thing to submit ideas. EKnight

A very nice little chubby boat! Very old school looking, with the lack of tiling, and it makes me happy. I love the use of the dragon arch, it's a quick and simple way to get detail on a stern. My only complaint is it needs some sailors! That big studded deck is just asking to have some sailors on it! EKnight

Funny thing is, it's not paper, It's because my "white box" is a leftover cabinet from my work, turned on it's side. Those are holes for adjustable shelving. I've been using it for quite some time, and had been wondering if anyone was going to notice. EKnight

Thank you! I consider one of my best aspects of MOCing is my ability to capture classic Lego set looks. Inverted slopes would perhaps be a smoother option, but it does not grant me the option of half stuff off-setting, which is why it is how it is. As I mentioned in a previous response, the sails are made using cloth that has been stiffened up using watered down gesso, and paint for colour. EKnight

[ENTRY][LARGE] Steve's Treasure Hunt
Elephant Knight replied to KolonialbeamterdeMartinez's topic in Pirate MOCs
I really enjoy the crab using the skull as a shell. EKnight -
Thank you for your kind words! I wouldn't by any means say I am the best ship builder out there, (the recently posted Saint germain is still far above my skill)But I would consider my talent to be above average. The sails are cloth. They are stiffened up by using a mixture of gesso, water, and paint(For the colour.) I put four layers of this concoction on. I found the recipe on a topic here on this forum from like, 10 years ago or something. Once they are stiffened up, I cut it into paper sized sheets, and run it through my regular Ink-jet printer. The results are fantastic, in my opinion. I will have to tinker with the amount and colours of paint. This is my first attempt, and it's pretty good, but I definitely want to be able to match the original Imperial Flagship's sails Gosh dang it, you are right, there should be a monkey! A lovely poem, sir, and I shall add some pictures of the interior to the main post right away. The interior is not fully fleshed out, I'm just not a fan of doing interiors, and they are a bit tricky to access, but there is some done. EKnight

Technically I'm still waiting on a Bricklink order to complete this, but I just borrowed some parts for the pictures. The Margaret Hamilton Steve didn't always have command of his cutter. After an unfortunate incident, which involved some noodles somehow, he was stripped of his command and sent to serve aboard the Margaret Hamilton. He quickly found the captain was a tyrant to his crew, and arrogant to boot. Steve jumped ship as soon as he was able and quickly found himself a home aboard the Skull's Eye Schooner. The Margaret Hamilton The Margaret Hamilton The Margaret Hamilton The Margaret Hamilton The Margaret Hamilton I thought that the name "Margaret Hamilton" was very piratey sounding when I saw that tile. Hence, the name of the ship. I have also been wanting to try out the clip and tubing thing for a ship's stern for while. I didn't have plans to build this at the beginning at all, but I got inspired by a ship recently posted on the forums. This ship has a few firsts for me, like using curved slopes for the hulls, and a new technique for making the sails. even the way the stern is constructed, with the clips on the tubing, is a first for me. New pictures! The Margaret Hamilton The Margaret Hamilton The Margaret Hamilton The Margaret Hamilton The Margaret Hamilton Let me know what you think! EKnight

Those are some good points. Steve really isn't in much trouble if he can swim. Perhaps that is why he is still smiling. And the point about the lack of studs is a good one too. My MOCs generally aren't so studless.

(Move this to MOCs if this is more appropriate there) Since I had all my Red Coats and Blue Coats our for a specific reason, I decided to arrange them all nicely for a photoshoot to see just how many I have. i don't think I forgot any. (Though I did have to take the pictures twice as I actually did forget some Blue coats hiding in a box) Red vs Blue Red Coat Army I guess you could say this is my oldest army, as I got my first two Redcoats in my second oldest set, Sea Mates. 28 years later it is now at 11 admirals/captains, 29 lieutenants, and 92 soldiers. 132 total. And that's not including the dozens of sailors they have to sail their 11 ships! Blue Coat Army Not nearly as large as my Red Coat army, but nor do they have a spot in my heart like the red coats do. I didn't get my first governor till 2010 or something when Bricktober had a fig. Now it stands at 9 Admirals/captains, 12 lieutenants, and 37 soldiers. 58 total. Then have a handful of sailors as well to sail their less impressive 4 ships. And if your curious, here's a shot of all their ships together EKnight

I actually have another entry built, a fairly decently sized ship, but just waiting for a Bricklink order to come in to photograph it. As for the 4+ figure... well, I saw it was legal. so I knew what I had to do. EKnight

General MOC-Discussion, WIP-Help, and Teaser Thread
Elephant Knight replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in LEGO Pirates
I had some small black hulls, and one single middle section. For the large hulls, as the didn't make the small middle in black. But I thought to myself, Hey, I could use the two together. Here's what I came up with: Black Hull Black Hull EKnight- 315 replies

While waiting for a Bricklink order to arrive to complete my large entry, I put together this small entry. A count of the parts is about 190 parts or so. End of the Pier Steve, an honorable merchant at the time, has gotten himself mixed up with a gang of scallywags. Double cross the wrong person doesn't end well, and when you double cross the Duke of Peurto Jasono, he sends his hitmen after you. And one of those hitmen is a 7 foot tall man known as Drake Dagger! Steve isn't (too) intimidated, but as he slowly backs away from the angry giant, he soon realizes the pier is a lot shorter than he anticipated! End of the Pier End of the Pier I've been wanting to try out the 'tile and various shades of blue' for water technique for a while now, and I saw that pier technique on a MOC, plus I wanted to use a 4 Juniors fig, because it was legal, and this is the result. I would have put a border around the base, but I wanted to keep it as a small entry. EKnight

It's an excellent version of the Black Pearl! It's pretty good as it is. the basis of the PoBB is clearly there, and you have done an excellent job of turning it into the Black Pearl. Looks so much nicer than the set, I'm glad you had it there to compare too.- 315 replies

[MOC] French Frigate 'Saint Germain' PART 1
Elephant Knight replied to The_Limit's topic in Pirate MOCs
You'll excuse me while I pick up my jaw from the floor, because this is simply the most stunning, gorgeous, and BEUATIFUL Lego sailing ship MOC I have ever seen! All the details, the rigging, just stunning! And it uses the prefab hulls too! That is perhaps my favorite part of this. Many great detailed ships generally don't use them, so I am happy to see them used here. Great job, you deserve an award or something! EKnight -
I may be able to swing a large entry. I realize I need to build some new set pieces for my Pirate webcomic, so I could kill two pirates with one cannon ball, if I get it done in time. I just need to sort, clean up my table, and maybe buy some more baseplates. Then find some time and energy to build! Eknight

Oh, this is a wonderful ship! The shaping is very unique, I can't say I have seen a ship with a hull shaped like that before. The angled walls on the stern are expertly done, and very seamless. Great job! EKnight

Excellent, I can use the 4Juniors Pirates legally this time! Not sure if I'll be able to build something for this contest. I would like to to, but my free time is limited, and energy to build is almost non existent these days. and I have many other projects on the go. but we shall see. I'll try to squeeze something in. Ideas for 7075 - Captain Redbeard's Pirate Ship
Elephant Knight replied to Guix's topic in Pirate MOCs
Yes, the sails are custom on the boat. Almost all my boats have custom sails. It's cheaper, if more work, and you're not limited in size and shapes. EKnight -
