Pictorial Review - 6289/6290 Red Beard Runner
Sebeus I replied to Bricverson's topic in LEGO Pirates
I have the ship and I like it a lot, the sails with holes in it are awesome, too bad there isn't a jib, tricorner sail on the prow, I tried using one from my skull's eye schooner but the sails' color don't really match unfortunatly. I loved this ship whan I was 7 years old, what did you expect, the awesome skull stern, collapsing features and sails just made it look cooler than any other official ship I had seen back then. I also like the hull proportions, wide hulls with 2 midsections. I still think it looks thougher than the new imperial flagship eventhough it's smaller The studded ropes are usefull as long as the studs don't become loose, I use them a lot on moc ships because they are easy to use, especially for connecting sails such as spanker sails and jibs. Nice review, I'm in the mood now to rebuild the Red Beard Runner -
Nice, I like both stern design, I like the colored lines.

Nicely done, my favourite part would be the bluecoat doll

The prototype has been demolished, let's all keep a 5 minute silence to honor her... In the meantime you can read through (in silence ) Since my bricks arrived I have been building a new boat base, longer and wider. I'm still in the stage of trying things out on this base before I continue towards the upper decks. With the new color scheme I might even go without the dark green plant parts on the lower cannon ports (there are headlight bricks behind the jumper plates so they would make good eyes) She may look a bit wide here but the proportions are correct, remember, there's the tumblehome to consider. The yellow looks terrible in it, I'll cover it with grey and dark tan plates later. As you might have already noticed there's no lower deck, no brig and hold. I thought about making the cross section of my Flying Dutchman the same way as I did on my black pearl cut-out (Hello Beastie) That would mean the ship would be on a water section... I figured it is complicated enough already. I'll keep the idea in the back of my head, for later perhaps. I'm still experiencing problems with the prow, probably the most problematic part of the whole ship. I'd like more dark tan in the ship but I must be carefull I'll have enough left to make the upper parts. I'm pretty satisfied with the boat base, I could make a ship of the line on it, the flying dutchman has 20 cannons on the lower gun deck but I could easely add another 12 Oh well, better stick to the original, the FD happens to have these long galleries. Any suggestions are welcome, especially now, as this is the most critical phase of the building proces, the shape of the ship. I apologize for picture quality, part of my house is being rebuild (after being demolished), the place I used to take picture on just doesn't excist any longer
-
Nicely done, I like the use of the FD crew member shell :P nice water effect as well.

It means it is in the pirate ship index, a thumbnail of the ship along with other ships, sorted by type of vessel. you can ask to add a ship in this tread (provide a link to your post) http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19972&st=0 Eventually it will be added in this tread http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=23991

I think someone made that up, remember, it's wiki, people can just write whatever they want, practically I could just sign in there and write it will include a Kraken as well. Besides, set 6234 already excists http://guide.lugnet.com/set/6234 I must say though the author managed to make it somewhat believeable ( 2067 pieces, nice number) But he knows too much about it for me to believe it either way Now, it would be awesome if there would appear an official Flying Dutchman in 2012 but I remain sceptical
-
Interesting combination of arches and inverted slopes, I'd like to see where this is going Prow and stern are usually problematic parts, unless you were intending to use prefab ones ?
-
That's strange, why would he delete those pictures, maybe it was classified material ? Involving future plans of the Lego Company ??? maybe ? perhaps ? possibly ? ... Nah, very unlikely.
-
Nice little army, I like the use of those dragon helmets, I only have a few redcoats and bluecoats, just enought to crew a small ship (if I don't use them both :P)
-
Personally I'm don't like the bright red much but as for shaping you did a great job. Nice rigging as well, must have cost ages to set up. I want a nice rigging on my Flying Dutchman but I don't know if I have the patience for that

Nice to see your ships sailing around on eurobricks You can request to have it indexed you know ? that means a thumbnail of it appears in the index of pirate ships http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=23991 -
Solidworks might be it, I've used that program quite a lot already and it's amazing. I haven't used it for lego yet because I would have to build every single part first to make an assembly. But I do think he has some kind of library containing all those parts.

Check this out, it's a render of the Pirates of the Caribbean lego game Flying Dutchman; Flying Dutchman for POTC game by bricktrix, on Flickr Impressive work, I bet if they would sell that there would be quite a lot of interested. If I recall, the game version of the black pearl looked better than the version they're selling soon

a gaff rigged sloop (might be spelled wrong ) I suppose there were sloops in various sizes, 8 cannons, 14, 16, 24 ?
-
at least she has a much nicer hull, I suppose it is an old one painted in black, I also think the proportions aren't right though, cabin is much too high. there, much much better
-
I've seen it already, it's a nice cannon but the black palm tree part is not easy to find unfortunatly
-
true, I don't have a lot spare ones though, used on another piano :P But I'll make sure they will be there on the final thing
-
well this is a relative simple ship so I could try building instructions, Let's see LDD will do
-
hmmm, I'm sorry to say but I think this crossection shows a very unlikely shape of a warship. Normally the lowest gun deck should also be the widest. The reason for that was to prevent the ship from capsizing. this is nice sketch of a realistic crossection: I do think this ship would make a very nice model for displaying and I'm looking forward to the end result and I'd love to see a detailed interior, full of occupied minifigures preparing for battle
-
Very nice, those 4+ hulls could have been usefull for large battle ships/ ship of the line if it wasn't for the grey part on prow and stern. Oh right, those hulls float right ? you should definitely take some pictures of it in the water
-
I just received note that my bricklink order has been shipped, I can't wait to get started in the meantime I have some more pictures; the interior plan I drew; The captain's quarters ( the new version will be spacier) While sketching the interior plan I came to the conclusion that the interior scenes don't match the exterior scenes in the movies, more specifically the captain's quarters, that's the reason why my captain's quarters looks rather small while in the movie it is big. I'm sticking to my interior drawing, that makes the most realistic ship anyway.

106B I learned from Corioso's Brig, the Admiral Forster, that you don't need to use the top part of the new hull sets Which is great actually because making a good looking stern with those new hull pieces is difficult. The old ones were much better for larger ships. Either way, the two part characteristic of the new hulls allow a different kind of style. I used a lot of parts from my QAR, originally I wanted to make a hemaphrodite brigantine but I eventually decided that it was better to save masts for other ships so it turned out to be (and please correct me if I'm wrong) a square rigged sloop. (I'm not sure of taht because it has three courses of sails ) I'm pretty proud of my sail plan . The crew ; The cabin's interior ; By the way, you might have noticed there are black cannon hatches on port side while there are white ones on starboard side. I was out of black hatches
-
I also prefer 'B', Nicely done so far, I like the deck hatches.

hmmm, a mummy is an undead, how does one kill the undead ? maybe a headshot will do like in shooter videogames yeah, if the british are good in making head shots they could win
