One thing; red bear runner looks cooler and tougher than BB, (in my opinion ) I just looked at both ship in their totality and so I must choose the RBR.

There's nothing out of proportion when you compare cannons with rigging. Take a closer look at those cannons and you'll see they are not the regular (shooting) ones, they are built from several different parts and are smaller.

I'm really considering buying it, on condition it will be discounted Especially now that I've seen how the version in the game looks like, I want to replicate that version and the official set has the nescesary black hulls for that.
-
The black pearl is cheaper than Queen Anne's Revenge but the Qar is a bit bigger (and has one more cannon). I can't really tell you more because most of it depends on your opinion, some prefer the Black Pearl over the QAR, others don't

Useing and finding other resources to find sets
Sebeus I replied to legomonk's topic in LEGO Pirates
I placed an advertisement on a smaller website which got me some nice sets at "decent" prices, not as good deals as yours though. I got a Skull's Eye Schooner for 100 Euro that way, I think it's a fair price, considering it was is excellent condition, it even included the box. -
The imperial flagship is the best choice if you want most parts for your money, the Queen Anne's Revenge has some nice details and cool minifigures but is less extended than the imperial flagship. In your case I would go for the Imperial Flagship because you say you want "one of the new ships" and are not looking for any particular feature. The imperial flagship offers more possibilities to build new different ships.

There are some structural issues, yes... I was hoping they would be solved by proceeding the build but they didn't, not entirely anyway. The prow is still a delicate part. I think I can solve it with a technic frame. There is a technic frame throughout the ship but because of the 1/2 offsets it was difficult getting a strong connection between the sections. As it is now it's too delicate to carry around, I might have to reconsider building a water surface to support it.

Typical for classic pirate ships, like my skull's eye schooner had more than enough swords and guns I can only be happy with that being the case in the black pearl set as well.

Time for an update; As you can see I left out the dark green plant parts which were over the lower cannon ports. The new color scheme made them less crucial to shape the demon ports. However, I don't think I'll be able to make more of it than a hole with two smaller holes on top of it. I believe the possibilities with Lego are unlimited but I have to admit I might have reached a border here I changed the ships bow completely, much more elegant now, part of the lower "jaw" is constructed already but I'm still strugling with the "teeth" The stern got some modifications as well. Sharks supporting the balcony. There's still a lot of work and there will be a lot of challenges to overcome. Like the "upper jaw" on the prow and the galleries I hope she will be ready before Brickmania, the yearly belug event. My black pearl stilll needs quite a lot of work too, it would be great if I could bring them both

Nice, the skeleton that painted the prow is funny

Ah, those minifigures look so good, But is it really worth buying the expensive set just for the minifigures ? Besides the minifigures there isn't really anything else that makes this set interesting for me, the black hulls are incomplete in my opinion (missing a stern part) and the new sails seem of lower quality than classic pirates sails.

I made a big one a while back. I never used it on a ship though. ...It is indeed a while back, when I wrote my nickname on every picture
-
Wow, those capstans are massive indeed I guess it also depends on the type of ship, a big ship, a big capstan. I haven't build anything this big so far so didn't know
-
Seen from the top the shape looks right. Have you figured out yet how to achieve the inward part of the tumblehome ?
-
Very nice so far, I think it should be wider though, I also agree with Horry about the position of the gun ports. For the rest it looks good, keep it up
-
You captured the "ghostship" style very well, there are many inaccuracies to the real ship (like the high forecastle, too many windows, cabin entrance, sail plan,...), I suppose you made this on your intuïtion. Either way, I like the ship, there are some very nice details, I dislike the use of those brown hulls though, they don't suit the Pearl very well. Still nice.
-
I classify on the amount of parts used, it pretty much the same as classifying by weight as more parts mean more weight. Uptill now my biggest ships were always my heaviest
-
Nicely done, good job with the angled mast, I forgot that on my sloop The sails remind me of my black pearl, did you paint them as well ?
-
Very nice, I like the rocks and cliffs on which you built the fort. Lots of details, I'll be checking this out later again in an attempt to spot them all
-
Very nice capstan, looks accurate, maybe a bit big though, I used a smaller one some time ago this one connected to the boats crane.

I like those bigger cannon port hatches, like to see more :)

My ship does not feature the lowest deck, which is indeed usually also spacy in height. this is just a small storage, the actual hold is situated below, partially underwater. Because I build from the waterline I needed a steady base you don't see any of that in my ship. the storage I'm talking about is more like a secondary space, a place where weaponry can be found. In a hystorically accurate ship the decks should follow the curve of the ship but that would make my build very complicated so I decided to reduce the curve a bit on the second gun deck and even more on the upper deck. That resulted in the storage/armory being small.
-
Yes, I already thought my bow was a bit dull, I'll redesign it ASAP. Things are going according to plan But I intend to change the plan a bit. At the back of the ship on the lower gun deck I have a space suited for storage/armory. (named "storage" on the plan) (the 10x1 grey plate is the tiller connected to the rudder, more of that later) It's not a very large space but I think it might be possible to fit the brig in there. The original plan doesn't feature a brig (though you can see one under the cross hatched part, drawn in dotted line. The dotted line indicates the submerged section) The storage space isn't very high either, 5 bricks near the stairs, only 4 bricks and 1 plate near the stern. The lenght of the storage is also shorted than planned. The Balcony required a large construction within the ship to safeguard a steady situation. I'll have more pictures of that later. Anyway, what do you think ? Brig ? Or Storage / Armory ?

I only have firing ones, I don't think the non-firing variant was ever sold in Belgium, it's probably an american thing the land of fire arms but a firing lego cannon is too dangerous. that's just ironic
-
"Improved" is a matter of opinion the collapsing mast was nice, I don't think the front of the ship has improved but I must say I like what you did in the cabin, the cannon in the skull, the hold, very nice. Maybe add some nice furniture for the captain ? Btw, I like the engraving on the cannons, I suppose that's some kind of compensation for the non-firing ability.
