Leaving a set as it is just isn't good enough for me. It started with some modifications but it got out of control. The only part that is left somewhat original is the stern which btw had some modifications as well such as the addition of ladders near the cabin's entrance (it now has a real entrance) and an arched balcony. What I like a lot about the set are the sails, and the swords-crown patern on them Imperial Armada maybe ? More pictures on Mocpages. At first I wasn't too fond about those "headrail" pieces but eventually I found a way to make them look more decent. To make an accurate minifigure scale replica it will probably have to twice the size it is now. I wanted to make a door to the cabin but that didn't work out. Turning to the inside would make the cabin too cramped and turning to the outside wasn't possible because the mast would block the door. Sliding turntable cannons, just like the Skull's Eye Schooner. You might have noticed the broadside reinforcements which were also typical to the SES. There are four of them though I only have 3 cannons. The crow's nest. More pictures on Mocpages.

Oh I remember this, it used to span a cove right ? I love how it improved. Those houses are very nice as well oh and the docks, wow, this is getting bigger than I expected.

Nice, I love the dark tan decks, the bow is very well shaped, keep it up.
-
It is a bit monotonous with all the black. Maybe I should change the deck to a dark tan color or grey maybe. LEGO needs to produce more dark brown, that would really be usefull as dark brown is close to black.

I'm working on the cabin now, building an interior. I'm going to use some dark red, brown and (dark) tan to counter the black. Adding an extra color to the exterior (the brickbuild hull) does not work. I tried dark grey but it looked worse. I think I'll leave the hull as it is, I will use some tiles to make it possible to access the gun deck. I must say though that the gun deck isn't a very interesting part of the ship. More interesting would be the cargohold containing the brig, jack's rum stock, some animals and maybe a kitchen ? However those are located partially beneath the waterline so I'll need to expand the hull for that. I have one Idea that might work. A removeable hull part with tiles. But that's for later, first I need to optimize the cabin. Another issue, as you might see captain jack is sitting quite low in the cabin. Should I raise the cabin's floor a bit or leave it like this ?

hmmm, I'm not used working with brickshelf, I reduced the images via photoshop and uploaded them again but that doesn't seem to make a difference on Brickshelf

Oh, but this ship is not meant to look like the pearl. I'm just building on multiple ships at the same time. there's this technical ship, the black pearl, Din's Fire and the flying dutchman. I work on the one I like most at the moment.

105A The black pearl and the official Queen Anne's Revenge engaging in a battle. It's obvious who's winning, the Pearl is faster, bigger (in this case) and heavely armed. I posted more pictures on mocpages .(Black Pearl) for the interested. The black Pearl isn't actually finished but I'm planning major modification which will include having a large part of the hull redone. So I decided to take some pictures in its full glory before I start the modifications. I like how the window frames turned out. I'm very curious for the official set, I'm particulary interested in how they will approach those difficult shapes. Following is a picture of the prototype, I liked this view but didn't succeed in getting a sharp picture of the last version. I hope you liked it, the Pearl will now enter the drydocks for a reconstruction process Don't forget, more pictures on mocpages (Black Pearl).

Next update, it was night and I took pictures with the cabin lights on. Now because I'm getting closer to my flickr limit I opened up my brickshelf again. Could anyone here help me to reduce the images ? My Brickshelf folder. I stole som furniture from the new pirates of the caribbean series The ship is almost finished, I need to make some sails and improve the deck a bit. The hellhound heads on the bow are giving me some probles, they are a bit wider than two studs which causes problems when I want be consistent with the blue line on the ship. Still some work to do...

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Sebeus I replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
if that Builderanddestroyer sais it like that it's hard to believe, maybe I should "call" Lego and ask, (should I try costumer service ?) But I do think the Black Pearl will be a set, I'm not sure about the Flying Dutchman but I am about a Davy Jones minifigure -
Looking fantastic already.

I see great potential, I never made a ship that big so far eventhough I think I have enough bricks. my idea is to start small and improve while building bigger. For shaping a ship this big I advise taking a look at this tutoral; http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=30622 It sais frigate but with some adaptions you can approach the tumblehome on other types of vessels as well. My latest ship was built using this technique. But the nicest ship ever based on this technique would be the Spanish Galleon (It should be somewhere in this forum as well).

Great review, I didn't get any of the pirate sets from 2009-2010, if it came out two years earlier I would have gotten them all probably

Nicely done, I love that soundtrack, I considered using it for my black pearl movie but eventually chose 'Up is down" . Really relaxing, a video showing the pictures, well done.

That's a very nice hull, I wonder if it is suited for a bigger ship, nicely done!

Very nice already, the interior look great, can't wait to see some sails on this beauty.

Next update! The white cannon ports will be removed soon, I had a lot of problems trying to get a good color patern. As you can see there's still a lot of work. I don't know how you great ship builders do it but whenever I try using the laticed windows on a stern it never looks good. So I decided to once again do something else. The nice thing about this glass window cabin will be the light function .
-
Nice, I like the main hull, I don't really like the colors, I guess the large blue parts on the side-marans (?) defined the color when you designed it. But the shape is great, love it.

The sails of the imperial flagship are very nice, so I think it's quite a bummer they are not with it. Also the minifigures being not included makes 40 dollar a maximum I would pay. The most important parts for me are the hulls, sails, masts, cannons and minifigures.
-
:P That would be quite the challenge. Yes, this is my first of the new generation ships, I love the dark brown but the original hulls are so much better, besides, the new hull pieces wouldn't allow me to work in the pneumatic pump :P I would either need a lot of pneumatic cylinders or design a very complicated technic construction to make that happen. And I'll probably need a bigger ship as well. Perhaps my next ship will have this feature. Maybe I'll use remote control power functions then, if the ship is big enough to hold a battery box, motors and receiver Time for an update, I covered up most of the techical side of the ship. The chaser cannons are in place and work well, I'm not sure about using the hellhound heads again though. I also placed the first mast but I'm probably gonna place it a bit higher, but I'll have to be carefull with that since I learned the first mast on a brig is shorter than the second mast (when it has two masts). Maybe I'll give it a galleon sail plan, so one smaller third mast.

Very nice, I saw it was blogged on the Brothers Brick, well-deserved, really love it.

Very nice, I like how the anchor can be hauled up using the capstan, I like features like that, beautiful cabin as well, good job !
-
This may look chaotic now but I can garantee that once I layed the deck everything will be hidden and it will look like an ordinary pirateship. I recently bought Queen Anne's Revenge but instead of a bow and stern hull part it had two bow parts . So I used the old hull parts which have holes in bow and stern (like the Caribbean Clipper). The holes in the stern were perfect for installing the operating 'button' for the anchor and the pneumatic pump. This ship will feature pneumatic operated chase guns, similar to what I did before here. It will have a capstan which can be used to operate the crane, the cabin will light up and the anchor can be operated from the stern. Belly of a pirateship by sebeus, on Flickr Well, I hope it will work out. I will post more pictures when I make progress.

Very interesting, I'll remember this tutoral when I build a new ship
