  1. so, the ship I'm building, the flying dutchman has its main deck filled with cannons, I refer to it as the second gun deck is that correct then ? (lower) gun deck has 20 guns , main (gun) deck has 18 guns
  2. Thanks, my previous version and the prototype had grates but I noticed the real FD doesn't have grates there, it does have some near the first mast. Thank you, I'm working on the galleries but they're tricky I'm trying to figure out a way to infuse the lion heads without influencing the shape of the galleries too much. Now about the shape of the ship, I think it still looks too straight on the pictures, however it does not in real, there is an optical illusion indeed, one caused by the camera. When it's finished I'll film it pretty much the same way as I filmed my first version A movie can sometimes show so many things you don't see on pictures. hmmm, On the new video I'll add a nice soundtrack In the meantime I'll post a new picture of my progress so far.
  3. Very nice, she looks a bit too tall but there's plenty of detail to make it up Nicely done !
  4. strange, sorry for the late response, I just came back from germany, you can just start your own tread for your black pearl, you can always mention my techniques, the same way I mentionned Corioso for the lower cabin Idea
  5. yes you did thanks.
  6. Nice ! the shape seen from above is not optimal but that could make it a lot stronger and might make the interior more accessible, seen from the front the shape is great. Now how about that interior, is it easy to access the ships 'inner works' ? the yellow doors on the bow look good, where did you get those ?
  7. well there are more unusual things about the Flying Dutchman Thanks I wonder what is is for, on a regular ship having this feature I mean, there must be a reason. Or maybe a 'normal ship' would have grates in the middle so it would be the access point for loading cargo ?
  8. Right here; The weather deck (where the minifigure stands on) is interupted to reveal the main deck (the deck below the weather deck) and makes it accessable via 4 stairs, two on each side. Does this section have a name or atleast the walking platforms (with the stairs) ?
  9. I almost had one, someone I know said that he would trade the minifigure once he bought the Black Pearl but when he finally got it he fell in love with it :P I guess the only way to get one would buying the pearl myself But it cost so much Thanks, I used those in the first place because I didn't have enough grey hinge bricks but then I liked them anyway
  10. I don't think it's true, yet I hope it is But 2000 pieces ? that's more than the Imperial Flagship so it would be very expensive, especially considering that it's a licensed theme. Imagine, more than 150 euro for a set ? very unlikely, that would be more of a collectors item and that's not really the target group the POTC line is aiming for. Oh well, you can always hope
  11. Be sure to use the correct terminology on those subjects, I'm still confused about which deck which deck is main deck, weather deck, orlop deck,... I know the names but I can't say for sure where they are on a ship, When building a large ship and posting pics of the progress it quite frustrating that I don't even know what deck I am talking about
  12. A view of the main deck or part of the weather deck... actually I don't know, this deck is immediately over the lower deck so I suppose it is the main deck. However this part of the main deck is exposed to the outside but only this small part so I don't know if it's acceptable to call it the weather deck considering there's a deck over the main deck as well. argh, terminology ! Anyway, there's this annoying gap on the side of the ship, caused by an inaccurate use of the tumblehome technique I suppose. I tried to hide the gap with a dark green root plant part The triple cannons are installed and can be manipulated very well, now I only need to find something good to do with the chains. (yes that's a dude with a guitar, don't you think this is a 'swinging' project ) Here's an overal view. It will stay like this for a while, I don't have much inspiration for the moment which makes it hard to continue the build.
  13. wow, that's pretty fast, I'm very curious for the result, what colors did you use mostly ? the digital version has some kind of grey-brown or call it sand brown, all the same
  14. The galleries are looking good, just like the flying dutchmans' galleries, too bad I don't have the parts to make them this way, the ship is looking great so far, it would be hard to get all the needed parts to build it in real though.
  15. Thank you, I don't have a lot of sand green and I plan to use it mostly in the interior, along with some sand red and sand blue.
  16. they are meant to represent demonic fish but now that I added the sharks they might be superflues.
  17. The prow is low in the water but taht is one of the many odd aspects of the Flying Dutchman I don't think I can make a 74 gunned ship next to my flying dutchman, I'm already running short on parts but in the future maybe. I did think about it though, to use the design of the flying dutchman with adapted balcony and prow, some nice brown colors and pearl gold accents
  18. Yeah, there's the gap between floor in rudder, problematic, because the rudder is under an angle I can't close the gap, I can't find an inverted slope brick that could form the sollution I could place another 1x2 plate to reduce the gap but there will still be a gap
  19. Next Update; I've been working on the prow and I came to the constatation that the real FD has its keel split in two at the prow, very odd, you can't see it very well because the teeth hides it. There are also two bowsprits (though one of them is broken)... Anyway. She has now a total length of 129 studs ! which makes her considerably larger than the prototype and generally any other Flying Dutchman creation on the net (which was not my goal but is nice anyway ) The upper "jaw" has been installed, I only need to add the "teeth" and modify the shape a bit. When that's done I can concentrate on the triple cannons. I'm afraid she's a bit too wide at the triple cannons. It became that wide when I added the "upper jaw" I might keep it like this though, it will be a lot easier to build the upper decks this way. The main gun deck Like cb4 suggested I'm using the decks for extra strength. This means they won't be removeable, which was my original plan for a more accessible interior. But the extra strength is necessary, Before I attached the mid deck I could not lift the ship without breaking something. Now I can easely carry it around, it's "swooshable" There are some weak spots though but I'm sure I can compensate those later when the build advances. After all the most interesting interior section is the captain's quarters and that one is located on the upper deck so it shouldn't be a problem making that area accessible. I found out that I'm running short on grey 4x1 plates, very disturbing as I wanted to use those on the "jaws" I have some dark gray plates left but I'm not sure if they would look good on it. Maybe I'll try tan plates. And then there's the mast problem, I don't have enough round 2x2 bricks to fully equip the Dutchman and I don't want to demolish my Pearl. I think I'll have to buy some more parts, the stern will be a piece of art when finished so naturally I'll invest quite the amount of parts in that section C&C appreciated
  20. I might have given it a try if I didn't start my own version already, however, there are many parts in i t I simply don't have and are hard to come by
  21. Very nice, I like the interiors of the buildings, oly thing missing would be a small ship at the pier
  22. Looking great so far, I'll watch this topic
  23. Those pirates look good, this reminds me, I better get the Davy Jones, Maccus and Hadras minifigures for my Flying Dutchman but they are so expensive Maybe I'll stick to my costum versions
  24. Beautiful, this will look so great when accompagnied by some nice roads, coaches passing by, etc. Love it
  25. My very first pirate lego set and one of the first of all of my lego I remember I loved the shark most about the set back then.
