  1. Awesome, I still think it's too rough and blocky in the black colored regions, luckley there is an overflow of other stuff to compensate The broadside view looks awesome and the rigging is great, nicely done ! By the way, I used roofs from cars as well instead of hinges, that was much cheaper
  2. This one, definitely, I believe he had a name, pete or something like that. His torso is just perfect, he can be used as a pirate, a crew member of an imperial ship, harbor master, captain of a trading ship,... you name it, he's never out of place. Too bad it's a rare minifigure, I believe it only came with the Skull's Eye Schooner and the Imperial Trading Post.
  3. I added some more detail to the stern but It might be a little bit over-done, I'm not sure. I made a "kitchen-platform" as well, for the galley... But considering the weathered look of ship and crew I suppose it's not really an appropriate add Anyway, I completely let my imagination do the work here It's not on the ship but I originally planned to place it under the forecastle. Instead I added another stairs.
  4. Nicely done, that redcoat sure is in a desperate situation Nice smoke too.
  5. Ofcourse: 1: The parts you need: 2: The three cone pieces should be fixed in the technic wheel. 3: Slide an axle through. 4. Add the round bricks and voila, one triple cannon. To install it on a ship all you need is a technic brick (brick with holes for axles) Slide the cannon through the hole and then put a round gear on the end of the axle. This makes it easier to manipulate the position of the triple guns. I hope this helps
  6. I don't think the names Port Royal and Endeavour refer to a historical port and ship
  7. Very nice, I wasn't very fond of it in the beginning but you convinced me when the I saw the angled sides of the cabin. I do have a suggestion though, the windows on the stern seem so big, wouldn't it be nicer if you replaced them by smaller 2x2 windows ?
  8. Very nice, I love the dark brown deck and that mortar... awesome. Just out of interest, what do you mean exactly with disproportion ? I don't know much about ketches (except that they're also referred to as bombers). Anyway, I love it, it makes me want to install a mortar on one of my own ships as well
  9. Then I'm soothed I'm looking forward to the first update.
  10. cb4's technique is very nice but he built a xebec, a vessel totally different than a frigate. So I hope you have an idea on how to create the tumblehome shape ? Anway, the structure looks great already, keep it up
  11. I'm gonna get some more headlightbricks to attach them. The color doesn't contrast very much with the gray so I can easely add some sandgreen bricks without messing up the color scheme.
  12. Happy new year ! The POTC contest was very fun indeed. I suddenly remember my intentions for 2011, I said I was going to make a castle... Too bad it didn't happy, I must be careful when writing down my intentions for this year
  13. Maybe it's the other way around, LEGO gets in the way of Life I really can't help it, I'm addicted to the project, about 5 days ago I woke up in the middle of the night and did some building on the ship. Current state ; I worked on the forecastle (there's a deck now) and the lower galleries (gallery since I'm only building the starboard side) And this is the brilliant idea that made me come out of my bed in the middle of the night; it's not perfect, but I think it will do the job just fine. The shape is still alright. I also added some pieces to the stern. This was it for now, atleast I hope, I've got other things to do actually, waking up in the middle of the night to play with my lego is one thing, the reason I feel the need to post my progress is that, when I go to my room and I see my ship I get this adrenaline boost. Yeah Baby ! Just trying to share that feeling
  14. Very nice, that stronghold really looks like it can handle some attacks, nice use of the classic raised baseplate. The port is nice too, particulary its lighthouse.
  15. I want this set very much but it seems to be a difficult one to find. the reason I want it so badly is because it's so varied, there's a bit of everything (from the classic pirates).
  16. wow, how did I ever manage to miss this, awesome !
  17. You can find everything at bricklink but if you only need a couple of those specific parts it's not interesting to pay the sending costs. I don't know of any interesting new set that has a decent amount of those parts.
  18. There's nothing wrong with those, atleast if a minifigure is able to jump 7 hight What's really wrong is the fact that there is no stairs, not even a simple ladder.
  19. We don't upload pictures here, we use otehr sites such as flickr, On flickr there's a toolbar above each picture that sais actions and share. Click on share, Grab the HTML/BBCode choose a size (max in this forum is 800x600, do not forget that ) Medium is usually okay. mark BBCode and then copy the code and paste it in your tread, that should do it. From what I can see it looks good.
  20. Sweet, you did a great job, I love how the interior is accesable, nice sick bay and galley. I must say I wasn't very convinced it would work out when I saw the first WIP post but during the build you have improved, considered suggestions, you've kept a dynamic plan. It turned out great. The straight middle section might not be so good for an accurate shape but you managed to partially compensate that by the bow and stern which are very nicely shaped. There are more WIP ship-of-the-lines around here but yours has a certain simplicity, you didn't use too many complicated or unsteady techniques and acquired a great deal of playability that way, it is much more than an exhibition model. Love it all the way
  21. You can't see this on a picture but I own both old and new ships and you can feel the difference in the sails, the old sails are made of stronger cloth, they are heavy and soft compared to the paper-like new sails. Anyway, the QAR and the Black Pearl have a good attachement system as well, instead of the traditional plates they use technic pins, much better then the Brickbeard Bounty and the Imperial Flagship. It must be possible to equip the same type of booms to the Imperial Flagship. Maybe you can use the instructions of the Black Pearl and QAR to find the sollution ? I don't know the exact proportions of teh sails but by varying the lengt of the technic axles used in the booms they might fit.
  22. As in classic pirates ships you mean this part ? It's not very easy to come by BUT you can use other parts instead, like this one: I don't think he's talking about the sails themselves, he means the way they are attached to the booms and I certainly agree with him. Personally I think the Imperial Flagship has the worst rigging/mast construction ever, it's a waste of such nice sails.
  23. Maybe the crabs get to eat Nicely done, I like the swords on the tower, they make a nice reference to sabre island. They are missing a big palmtree though.
  24. Sweet, must be delicate to move around, it's so gigantic
  25. It's made by a lego video galme designer so it is more than just a fan. He already let me know that there would be many fragilities in the ship when confronted with real gravity (unlike the virtual version) I'm guessing the Flying dutchman will have a Hull set of 4 midsections, I think the stern will be similar to the black pearl (ending with a midsection instead of a complete hull). That way there will be a balcony, only one though. the stern window wil be similar to what the QAR has. There will only be one deck with cannons, at best there will be 4 cannons, 6 cannonports total of which some could be fake (like the QAR's first and last cannonports) The galleries will be pretty basic, probably only one (instead of two). I hope they use arched bricks for them. The gun deck will be covered by a second deck just like the Imperial Flagship and will have the Kraken Hammer on it (capstan). The cabin will have one door in the middle and two stairs to reach the poop deck (which will have the steering wheel) In the cabin there will be the famous organ. I'm pretty confident about all that, except the prow is still a mystery, the 'jaws' are not so easely attached to a smooth hull bow. And I'm also very curious for the triple cannons. I might try making this in LDD, let's hope it works.
