  1. This looks wonderful, Kristel! I echo the sentiments that the windows are superb. I really like that you used the same window elements on the two upper floors, but made them look different by building different frames around them. That makes for a very cohesive look in the building as a whole.
  2. Athos, your avatar makes me think of that Doctor Who episode, "A Town Called Mercy". Old Avatar: Key ideas are "Clone Trooper Torso," "Clone" and "upside-down". New Avatar: It's a clone factory!
  3. This looks very nice, Emma! The chicken coop is very charming - I love it.
  4. The bunker looks great; I like the use of the small panels to express the ridges on the walls. The trees, too, and the speeder bike are wonderful. The rest, where the chaotic minifig action takes place, seems a little overgrown and takes attention away from Han, Leia and the Rebels and Ewoks on the roof of the building. The MOC is presented nicely on the black base with small details. Great work, I Scream Clone!
  5. That's a great dreary, desolate feel you've built into this MOC, Captain Flint! I like that you built this as a mine - a bit different and thus a noteworthy build. Also great is the inclusion of olive-coloured leaves on the tree to continue the sense of washed-out colours in the environment of this scene.
  6. I must say I'm a tad disappointed by the interior of the cinema, but, honestly, it's LEGO. I had expected stadium-style seats a la sonicstarlight, but I could do what I wanted if I bought this set. It looks ripe for modding.
  7. Looks jolly good fun! I'll have to get in on this. I also echo the "Permission to use LDD, sir?" posed by obsidianheart.
  8. I didn't know that - thanks for the tip.
  9. I'd really like a batch recolour function, using which I could select pieces using the select feature (such as multiple, connected, colour, shape, colour and shape) and then paint them all the same colour. It would be great for giving spaceships or buildings different colour schemes.
  10. Great job on this building! It looks just like the exchange, especially with the addition of the columns and embankment in front of it. Excellent work, BelosveT!
  11. That's a nice start to your MOD, gazumpty! It already looks more realistic than the 7744. I look forward to seeing what comes next. Please would you identify the grey piece that holds the overhead lights in this picture? I can't find it in the Bricklink inventory of 7744. Thanks.
  12. The Winter Palace is possibly the most recognizable building of the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. Wikipedia has a good entry about it. This is a view of the facade that I worked from in building my modular version. It's a beautiful building, so first I tried to build a representation of it that would fit into a modular city. That effort is this. It looks nice enough, but isn't very palatial. So I took design cues I developed in the prototype and made three modules: a corner section, a straight section and a section with arches, as in the middle of the reference photo. The modules are open-sided, naturally, so as to allow a continuous interior. The modules themselves are compatible with the Cafe Corner modular standard. Below are pictures of the modules. The intent all along was not to create a perfect model of the Winter Palace, because it has so many weird corners and intersections of corridors. Instead, I wanted to create an easily-rearranged set of parts that can be put together to make something very reminiscent of the actual building. This is an example that numbers approximately 21,000 pieces. In retrospect, sand green is a better colour than sand blue for the outside of the palace, but sand green itself is a little dark. Oh well. I can't upload files of the modules because they're too big all together. See more pictures of this project at Flickr. I hope you liked my model of the Winter Palace! Thanks for reading!
  13. I like the inclusion of yellow doors and windows; that makes the building look a little brighter than other Winter Village houses and shops. I also like the Tudor style walls, which look fantastic in brown and tan. Great build all round, kabel!
  14. Now it's been bumped, I'd like to chime in and say that these modulars are beautiful. The construction of the cinema and projection room above is very creative!
  15. Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie. Great book. Poirot's one of the best characters I've ever read.
  16. The stable looks fantastic, and I love the use of yellowed white bricks that many people see as useless. The whole diorama has a great Middle-Eastern feel going, and it's also of a rather impressive size. Great job, freakwave!
  17. This looks like a good "classic" town. I look forward to seeing your updates as 2013 progresses. My favourite bit is probably the inclusion of your abandoned mine; the place you put it in the town just looks right.
  18. I'm not sure which is my favourite, but I really like the charming, old-fashioned LEGO feel of 6074 Black Falcon's Fortress. My absolute favourite set I've ever had is King Leo's Castle. I can't say without the instructions whether it was 6091 or 6098 I had, but it was great. I've also long desired 7163 Republic Gunship and 4504 Millennium Falcon.
  19. I'm a little late to the sail barge party, but I agree; the front end of the studio model is much longer and shallower than the front end of 6210, which I have and love. If you count studs, the central section of the new sail barge is about 16 studs long - roughly the same as in 6210. Also note that the two sails are of very different sizes in the prelim photograph. I suspect the issue here is the massive foreshortening caused by a terrible photograph, rather than a terrible prototype.
  20. I had always thought Protoss were tan, but that is beside the point. Your probe looks good, especially in its mineral-collection action shot. Just make sure you've built enough pylons before you start making tons of probes! Great build, Cecilie.
  21. Those cars are stunning! They look just like what I imagine when I think of Jurassic Park. My favourite is the red-and-grey Jeep. Perfect builds - no suggestions from me.
  22. Hi hachiroku! I think this snowspeeder is a good-looking build. I like both the black fins at the rear and the snub nose at the front. The canopy, however, has struts that are a little "chunky". Without too much work, as I see you have this piece (or something similar) on the roof already, you could replace the 1x3 tiles with flex tubing in conjunction with clips or minifig hands. You could perhaps even use black friction pins to give the struts a little more bulk. To see an example of a canopy built from flex tubing and clips, try this Ju88 by Fuppylodders. Great job on the snowspeeder!
  23. This is a very nice build. I like the different yet consistent windows. However, the building looks like it is better suited to being a bank or an office than a house. Nevertheless: great work, Danpb!
  24. The cheese slope roof on the carriage house looks gorgeous! That, as well as the walls made of brick-bricks make the building very believable to look at. I also love the ivy crawling down the crag on which the castle sits. I look forward to seeing the castle complete. Great job, maydayartist!
  25. Luckily, I took a reference picture for myself in the event I took it apart! This picture shows how the roof is put together with bricks, clips and lightsaber bars: The two halves of the roof sit lying towards each other. The chimney is this piece. It has a jumper plate on top, which engages with the lightsaber blade coming from the fireplace inside the house. That connection squeezes the roof into position. The overall construction is a bit tricky to put together but is fairly robust. Thanks again for reading.
