Brickworld Virtual Con spring 2020
jimmynick replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
It was pretty entertaining, particularly enjoyed the GoH exhibition and the talk about Fractals. -
I'm glad you gave this a second look. The first iteration was nothing shabby, but in rebuilding you've really paid attention to the flat surfaces all the way around the corner tower. Very nice job and thanks for sharing!

My goodness — I love the comfy Georgian feel. And the black-and-gold bollards! So familiar! I can imagine a whole terrace of these. Nice job with the angled foliage on the tree. Great build and thanks for sharing.

Very interesting — de Stijl is not to my taste but this is very well executed. The texture provided by the 1x1 plates reminded me a little of the Maison de Verre in Paris. Nice build, and thanks for sharing.

That tan window panel + frame and SNOT tiles under the ground floor windows are an excellent combination. Great use of flex tube to emphasize the bay window too. Very nice, very clean build. Excellent textures all round.

Lovely updates — thanks for keeping us posted! That's a great solution for seagulls you've found.

Yeah, you got everything about this. It's perfect from tip to toe, and I especially love how clean the lines of the pyramid are. Iconic building and you nailed it. Great job incorporating those really old window pieces! I look forward to seeing the rest of the layout. If this is anything to go by, it'll really be something.

Yeah, I like it! It's always nice to see MOCs on a smaller footprint like City sets, as @TeriXeri has pointed out. Have you considered putting a bit more of a roof on it? Thanks for sharing!
-
I'm sorry @Brandon Pea but I can't see the images you've apparently posted. Could you post to Brickshelf or Flickr? I look forward to seeing what you've built.

But where did all the seagulls go? And the ice creams? This is a good start and I'm looking forward to seeing how you expand it in future. Thanks for sharing!

THE PIRATE BAY IS GOING TO BE AN OFFICIAL LEGO SET!!!!
jimmynick replied to Another Brick In The Wall's topic in LEGO Pirates
It's because the Imperial Flagship, while a celebrated model in its day, is really a box with sails attached. Even though the sides of the new BSB are built from sloping sides rather than a more sophisticated technique, we are lucky at all to have a pirate ship with some sense of contour. I mean, it flags well behind MOC ships, but it's absolutely the best mass-production ship TLG has ever produced. -
I'm really in two minds on this topic: firstly, I do almost all my building digitally, with Mecabricks or LDD. On the other hand, in the past year I've spent 600USD on LEGO with hardly any sign of slowing down. But I suppose it's more a reflection of my habits rather than a philosophy fo the medium — I buy models for display and play in a sandbox when I want to be creative.

This is really gorgeous - I particularly adore the tiny steam loco. Thanks for sharing!

German Toy Fair – LEGO To Increase Focus On AFOLs
jimmynick replied to danth's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Sounds like DC my friend... The announcement sound to me more like an attempt to please the fanboys (me included) rather than to draw in fans from outside... of course the helmets are nice but my initial reaction was taht TLG might push out yet more highly-detailed, highly-priced D2C sets like the Stranger Things set or (although it's Ideas) the Pirate Bay. -
You've done a great job getting the contours on this and I'm doubly impressed you've managed to fit a minifig head inside the cockpit! Lovely, thanks for sharing.

Next you'll be telling us ancient Roman and Greek statues were actually painted in garish colours! Whatever next! Indeed, it is nice to have another tricorn+ponytail a la Elizabeth Swann in the ranks -
My first Pirates purchases were from the 2009 wave: 6239 Cannon Battle, 6240 Kraken Attackin', and the 8396 and 8397 impulse sets. I then made the fig in my avatar from the parts in those sets My wallet is larger than it was during my teenage years so I've been able to expand my horizons, and Barracuda Bay is definitely next on my list.

Two points here: lots of people don't want a pirate ship in particular — they want the BSB. And secondly, the island sans BSB is not even close to nothing. Sure, the ratio of convertible ship to permanent island is more than 1:1, but I think the ship portions are well integrated into the set as it appears. Of course one would have to build the thing to see whether it feels more like a ship tacked to an island or a fortress built from a wreck. -
Hi! Elijah here. You know, I thought Ethan was Hinck on Day One because of his sense of humor, but I thought again because of his PINGES and less than capable use of the English language. Then I wrote a short play in PM... Oh yeah and sign me up for the sequel @Bob

What a great build of such an exciting action sequence. Love Blofeld's minisub in particular. Thanks for sharing! -

Yeah, the images on the submission have very muted colours and made the build look boring (despite being an appeal to nostalgia). It was OK, yes, but not spectacular. Not that Ideas sets are always spectacular; that Exo-Suit you point out was fairly boring compared to the original. I bought it anyway. But it did get us a very nice set in the end, and I'm happy on that front. If it had been exactly identical to the submission, I probably would have passed on it too. -

I think it's amazing - a great throwback to the Black Seas Barracuda, and it has improved on the original, which I thought was a bit too oblong. I think it's amazing that you can have the shipwreck island but also rearrange the parts into what is really quite an attractive ship. We'll see if my wallet can handle this one -
These look great. I love how creative you've got with making your tracks realistic, and the cable trough is the item that really stands out to me - so ubiquitous in the UK.
