Has the LEGO group released too much 18+ sets this year?

It took Vindicare's explanation for me to notice... reading on mobile, Will Ferrell didn't look quite like Will Ferrell. Or perhaps it's just my eyes -
Thank you for the insightful review, Makoy! It seems to me that this set is actually much better than it appears. In the 2020 sets discussion I panned it, saying the only draw is the figures - but I don't think that's quite true anymore (though having Kabe means that building a faithful Nar Shaddaa pazaak den is now in the cards ) The change from trans-clear to black on the Ubrikkian speeder makes a small but substantial improvement to the appearance of the model, and I love the inclusion of the V-35. Gotta love the vaporators - make me think back to when I was a kid, playing with the 7101 Lightsaber Duel - a real classic. Of course they're much more detailed these days! Actually I think I am most excited about the junk shop & vaporators rather than the cantina proper and it makes me wish we had more of these secondary locations included in sets. Thank you again for the review and high-quality photos!

Mystery on the Excelsior - Chapter Two
jimmynick replied to Bob's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Emily is glad Sophie's injury is only minor and that the party is able to focus now on the missing passengers. "Funny that Alfie's door should be locked even though the power went out. I'm not an engineer by any means, that's Gabriella's bailiwick, but you'd think interior doors such as this would be fail-safe so as not to trap poor Alfie (or other passengers) in their rooms. Either someone has locked the door since power returned, or this ship is built like a death trap." Emily knocks on the door. -

Emily is glad to have the news app installed on her phone, should the interstellar internet be restored and she be able to get updates, particularly regarding the curiously standoffish Charlotte Sawyer. She is also glad to be able to move out of the lounge, where it seems there is nothing of much consequence to find. ”Not sure it matters whom we check on when, so I’m happy to visit Alfie first.” -

It's been a while since I've looked in on this topic and it's great to see its progress. There are some really wonderful features such as the staircase climbing up the side of the wall but especially the curved roof over the brick kiln . Keep up the excellent work! -

"We might be Lost In Space!" The wa-wa-wa of a sad trombone sounds somewhere inside Emily's head. "But not the chef? Interesting." Somewhere in the vicinity of brass instrument sounds, Emily replays the security footage in her head. She notices a mysterious dark object between the newspaper and the chef. I would like to approach, inspect, and pick up the mysterious dark object between the newspaper and the chef to see what it is and whether it has anything interesting. -
Unpopular Opinions related to Lego Star Wars

To capitalize on FOMO and the generally increasing price of collectibles. The OG droids and clones packs go for for £30-40 BL in MISB condition, the 9488 is £50+ and the 8014 is £40. The S&P has 3 times the cap it had in 2007, so honing in on the right battle pack can offer a not-insubstantial ROI. It does mean there are fewer for the rest of us, though- 127 replies

Not that you were asking for my opinion, but I think the red roofs make the castle just a little bit livelier than it could be otherwise, and gives it an especially classic feel that works well with the rectangular proportions. Looking forward to seeing these!

"@Gabriella" I would like to examine the newspaper for a sudoku. I like doing sudoku. -
How wonderful and expressive! I've got to say this orangutan looks a little dopey... wonder what plants he's holding on to? Did you work from a specific source to build this MOC? I ask because the proportions remind me very much of King Louie from the live-action Jungle Book movie.

Mystery on the Excelsior - Chapter Two

Emily rolls her eyes as Oliver puts dramatic feeling into his rendition of the news. "Well, that's why we're here, isn't it? Going to the colony to see what's up." Emily feels in two ways about this revelation. Personally, it is an affront that Charlotte should be permitted on a junket when she and George have spent so much on the same trip for an anniversary. Professionally, however, it offers opportunities. "Dear Charlotte, as the premiere practicing lawyer on this vessel, I am quite ready to provide advise as regards expense-ing this voyage so that no nasty scandals erupt and force you to leave your Greater London constituency under a cloud. My rates are quite reasonable." She wanders over to the communications master supreme, Steward Arthur, and mutters "That bitch better be sleeping in the engine room if she's on this ship for free." "Arbitration or a settlement may generate some remuneration but I do believe that a trial in the court of public opinion would do well to extract at least a refund for this anniversary trip. And another bottle of Krug in my stateroom, please." Emily squints, but rather than looking around the room, she casts her gaze inwards to her deepest thoughts. Then she smiles at Gabriella. "Best gal pals, right? So what did you find out about the FTL drive failure?" -

“I even italicized this request and put it on another line . Seems that Gabriella has a similar idea regarding whether there is something mysterious on our computer systems.” Emily crosses her arms and looks at her reflection in the broken glass. Although Gabriella calls her a “bitch” and the Captain seems to be keeping secrets about an assassin, she is secretly glad to have them both back in the lounge. This part of Gabriella’s rant at Oliver sparks Emily’s neural circuits. “Now that’s an idea! Miss Engineer, I am more than willing to file a workplace injury case against Blue Star on your behalf. In addition, we can submit a claim of discrimination and harassment due to their engineer hairstyle policies.” Emily pauses, waiting for Gabriella to perk up, but there’s no reaction and she keeps going. “Anyone else have injuries as a result of the FTL breakdown? Broken bones? Whiplash? Anyone? Anyone?” -

Emily picks through the glass and ceramic shards now strewn across the coffee table. "Arthur, it's very kind of you to think of the Captain and Gabriella. I had assumed they could take care of themselves but I suppose that's a bit rude of me to think." "I'm very sorry, Mr. Seymour." Emily presses the power button on the TV behind Charlotte, hoping the power is on and wondering whether a mysterious U.N. Owen will make an appearance to torment us. -

How? By releasing something akin to 7264 Imperial Inspection but with up-do-date parts and a touch more greebling. I'm looking forward to seeing how this new one turns out but I'm not holding my breath. -

Emily rolls her eyes, saying to nobody in particular that "Gabriella should have spent less time drinking and bragging about FTL maintenance and more time actually maintaining the FTL drive." She squints and casts her gaze around the room. "Most of the furniture has taken a spill but that 4x6 tan coffee table hasn't moved at all. There was a teapot on it last night during drinks but that's gone now. I'd like to kneel down, waggle my bum in the air for George's benefit, and examine what is under said coffee table." -
Hello @PirateRoberts and welcome to Eurobricks! Thanks for bringing your best game with this castle! It's got a great classic feel with the rectilinear lines and the open back that I absolutely love, and you've paid enough attention to the walls to liven up the texture. I really like that you've recessed some of the windows and built arrow loops into the gate house and keep, and the hammerbeam roof in the great hall is a simple yet wonderful architectural feature. Again, welcome to the board, and with this MOC you're really making an entrance. Congratulations!

"Seeing as this is my wedding anniversary, you must understand that my talents are fully booked for the duration of the voyage. And forever thereafter." Emily glares in the dilettante artiste's direction. "And I think all that booze has rather dampened your powder for tonight anyway." -
LEGO Ideas Discussion
jimmynick replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think the biggest problem with this is that it's too similar to too many castle MOCs at the moment. The dilapidated, run-down look is extremely fashionable to the extent it takes a lot to stand out, and this windmill just ain't got it. And the biggest problem with the M1 is that the model is way too chunky in comparison to the real deal. LEGO's designers are known to completely refactor an IDEA to bring it to market, but this baby needs to be a good 4 or 5 studs longer with those wheels, it needs the rear air vents to be moved back substantially, it needs the windowscreen stood up straighter and moved way forwards. The black stripe across the side needs to be 2 plates higher. And that's just the beginning. The M1 is a beautiful car, but this IDEA just isn't. This makes me sad because it really is iconic, and it'll be right there in the pages of any book you pick up on the International Style or (perhaps) Brutalism. -
Very nice review Oky, and thanks for sharing all the little bits & pieces about this set! It looks pretty OK to me, with the façade of Quality Quidditch Supplies the only really special thing that stands out. I can see how it would appeal to other fans but honestly I think if I wanted to spend that kind of money on HP sets I'd pick the Astronomy & Clock Tower sets and throw in some others to round it out.

LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
jimmynick replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
On the one hand I feel a little guilty to be digging this subject up after a week when everyone's paying attention to the cantina, but on the other hand the Grievous fighter is really terrible this time around. It's not really that good an update to the old one (or even to the original). Sure, the original was a bit bare-bones but it (and the 2010 version) share key design cues with the new release (the forward cones & the curved bricks at the front in the middle) to the extent that the new ship isn't really substantially better than the old one and has a much-inflated price to boot. Not to mention it's hardly got any more pieces than the previous release. The original wasn't perfect but it did cost just $20 in America at the time. That was good value to me even as a young teen, and I couldn't possibly countenance spending £75 on the new version these days. Honestly the 5+ sets are starting to catch my eye a little now instead. Back to the topic at hand, this is very true and I'm sorry I missed out on it at the time!
