Custom RC System
Boxerlego replied to z3_2drive's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow! That is incredible motor controller there. I am very interested how the servo performed with this. Also what is the voltage your are running this at. Is there a voltage regulator for the servo here. It is amazing to see all four buggy motor running on one channel. Looks great a little expensive though but that is some serious power with this.- 21 replies

No wires hanging out here if the idea was taken to the next step. That was just a simple test to see if it was able to work off 3AAA batteries. The IR controllers can have the option that when put together the power in one of them could power both of them through the connection that happen when connected together. The power would be simply be transmitted through an internal connection so it is possible to have no wire hanging out if it was fully thought out.
-
It works perfectly with 3AAA batteries powering both IR controllers. Here is what I did I set the speed/servo control to channel 1 and the toggle control to channel 2. I had two IR receivers connected to one battery box each set to the a corresponding channels. And I held down the toggle switch to make the wheel go forward and used the speed/servo controller to steer the wheels.

If the speed controller is used for servo steering the servo will hold its position and use no current from the 9v battery box unlike the toggle control where you got to hold the switch in place for the servo to hold and that requires constant current at both the IR toggle control and 9v Battery box.

Built with new suspension parts I like the sound of that. Awesome work! -
[MOD] 8466 Offroader
Boxerlego replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
When I was making my first solid axle design using the original steering parts from the 8466, I needed a front stabilizer. However, with this new steering design I have based around the 9398 has eliminated the need for the front stabilizer. I feel this issue has something to to with the steering rack design. -
Making "better" Lego bricks? My challenge.
Boxerlego replied to henrysunset's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Lego bricks are square. I built this solenoid engine using building techniques not based around the square but around the circle. Just look at the end of a Technic lift-arm and you will see it is round. Not many people can say that they have built off the end of a lift arm and it had a purpose too. -

Can I compare the 2kg lego to a .008g ant? -
[MOD] 8466 Offroader
Boxerlego replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I am doing a complete overhaul on my 8466 and I am refitting it with the newer parts like portal hubs and unimog ball joints along with Powerfunction servo and XL-motors. I have change the suspension from independent to solid axle. I Love this challenge because the 8466 is built evenly and those new parts are odd if you know what I mean. This is a picture of a gear that broke on me while climbing up a wall and forced me to resigned the whole axle. Now the model is combination between the 8466 and the 9398. Edit: -

Simply Amazing! That was incredible watching it climb up that rock face with wet tires. I never doubt the fact that is was able to pull the car. Pulling the car is actually easier than you think. Watch this 92 year old guy pull this car by his teeth -
Thanks everyone I guess I'm going to send these shocks back... Tho I did tried to fixed the spring by stretching the spring out. But after doing a simple test with a digital scale to measure the stretched out sping's force in grams and compare that against the standard force of the extra hard shocks. I saw a slight difference in force between them. In order to get the normal force of the extra hard shocks I average the total force of 6 shocks and a normal shock appears to have a force around 1300g while the stretched out spring one appears to have a force around 1000g also I have another shock that has some spring shrinkage not as bad as the other and that force was also maxing around 1000g.

Hello, recently I notice that one of my extra hard shock spring has become smaller then the rest of the shocks. I dont know what happen to the spring but I can tell you that when I took the shock apart to take out the spring, the spring shrank even smaller then was first notice. So my guess is that compression of the spring caused the deformation. This is the first time I notice anything like this happening with the shocks. This is surprising because the shocks are fairly new. So How many else are seeing this happening to their shocks?

Excellent work! That is a great crawler track you guys made. I like that it has lots of obstacles and gives you plenty of stuff to drive over. Thanks for sharing!

Fantastic design! I just love how it turns. That is a very innovative simple approach using the control links like drag links.

If you were to use the upgraded XL motor I believe the torque would be a total of 1037.N.cm Edit: My math was wrong on the gear ratio ..I flip the 24 gear with the 40 gear for max torque and step up the gear ratio up to 1:15.003. and that was not calculating the wheel torque too... -

Very nice! That is some good amount of torque. The power train looks great. I love how 4 xl motors flows to one main gear that is awesome. I cant wait to see this MONSTER. -

Horror Stories - Lego you bought off flea-bay and BL
Boxerlego replied to DrJB's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I bought some technic parts from someone off ebay. They were listed as clean and in good shape. Well when I got them there was DIRT all over them and guess what, the parts that I got were white. I was like did this guy just took apart the model after he got done done driving it around in the dirt and decided to sell the dirty parts on ebay instead of washing them. Another ebay horror story I have involves the package that was shipped to me. I had just bought/won several auction brick lots where the bid starts at a mere .99 cents and I manage to rake in a good amount of lego bricks ranging from all sizes and shapes for a cheap price. Well when the bricks were package up an sent off the sender decided to hand write my address instead of printing out that shipping label and this caused a good delay. The mail carrier had no idea where this package went and this package went on a little journey that lasted for about 2-3 weeks. I went to the post office several times trying to see if the package is behind the counter waiting for you to pick it up but usually they give you a notice for that. Ultimately the address that was hand wrote on the package never existed so it bounced from post office to post office. I guess the seller misread my address and thought it said something else.
