Ch II: Team Simon: Cat B: Fortifying Avalonia
Emma replied to Infernum's topic in Guilds of Historica
Wonderful entry SK Infernum! The irregular base and landscaping are lovely, as is the house with all it's little details (and the colour scheme, that's great too). Not so sure about the 2x2 round tiles on the house foundation though, to me they look a little bit like stuck on polka-dots instead of rock/stones supporting the house. Oh, and I have to second Gideon's comment about the photography - flawless Edit- eeps, where's my brain, really sorry Infernum -
Great work! The white accents look really nice, and the figurehead design is excellent. The knight seems a bit lonely up there, though the desolate ship deck certainly lends an eerie feel to the build.

Warlords of Nocturnus: Lord Vladivus: Part 3
Emma replied to Lord Vladivus's topic in Guilds of Historica
Yay, an eligible entrant for joining the story team - not sure though LV, you might have some stiff competition... . (I have idea, but it's still in my head, it'll come out eventually but definitely not in time for the dead line.) This is a nice build, and really good job with the posing again . The dense foliage of grass stalks for the swamp worked out really well. It does feels like it might be a little bit too chaotic - really in just the little details though - like the green frame for the window, the brown bricks in the tower (the tan works though - matches the ground), and I think having small clusters of similar swamp plants instead of single types on their own would add a bit more realism too the overall look.- 13 replies

That's huge, and wonderfully detailed, you guys did an amazing job with this colab - can't wait to see it all together (that is going to happen right??) As lovely as everything is here, my absolute favorite part is that raven, it's gorgeous We had a pair (of ravens) take up residence in our barn, and between them and their youngins, they make quite the mess - I think several large lego raven droppings covering a good part of the MOC would really add to the realism . .

Warlords of Nocturnus: Lord Vladivus: Part 2
Emma replied to Lord Vladivus's topic in Guilds of Historica
Now that I think of it, Scarecrow was a little tipsy wasn't he...Anyways, I really like the golem design and great work with the action posing, The border, too, is nicely done - it give a nice finished edge, and yet still blends in with the rest of the build. Just to be picky: I think that one square (you can see it in the second picture) with the 1x1 and the 1x2 tiles should have been just a 2x2 - it stands out a bit being the only part of the ground like that. -

Did we need to post a link here? Just in case, here's mine: The Smiling Phantom -
This is gorgeous! Love the use of the dark red throughout, and amazing work with the photography especially for something so big. There's that enchanted pumpkin pie ! The only thing that might have improved on this would have been a bit of dusting (though it's really only noticeable on the swamp closeups...)

Oohhh, sounds good. Thanks Thomas! Thank you SK. Yep - at first I was just going to use some black paper - but then remembered I had some scrap fabric and was able to use that. It's quite fun - having to rely on texture and shape to create interest, and not having to worry about what colours to use . Yep, it seems that it is just a matter of time/materials/setup to get everything right...

I love how out of place the Drow and Orc look amongst the greenery and flowers, lol. Bad guys seem to have a tough time blending in in Avalonia.

The Spider's Chamber- Collab Prelude Part II
Emma replied to ZCerberus's topic in Guilds of Historica
Lovely floor design - I'm thinking that the Obsidian Spike had a really good interior designer. ...and the plot thickens, can't wait for more. -
Thanks all for the comments/feedback. We're happy on the inside too...very happy Thanks Kai! Umm, bigger sail to catch more wind so it can go really really fast?... I think the angle, and maybe also the position it's in (bit towards the back instead of the middle) make it look a bit akward. The prow and a few of the spikey details are definately a little delicate. Thanks Togar! Thanks Z. More white poster board is going on the shopping list, and I shall give this technique a shot (any tips on proping up the posterboard?) Thank you! Thanks Gunman! Lol! Now if only I had some of the ship pieces from either of those lego sets... It's watching you... and attacking from below the waves! Thanks Gabe! I love your ship designs - definately a source of inspiration. Thanks LV! Thank you. The sides kind of ended up a mish-mash of parts, which fortunately worked out well with the overall look of the ship... Thanks Gideon; that it is, that it is... Thank you. Thank you Mass. I'm loving all your Nocturnus builds thus far, awesome stuff! I've got these ones that give a bit of an idea of what's going on back there: (eewwww camera flash/eewwww weird camera noise...)

A GNAR warship entry for Nocturnus: The Smiling Phantom The Happy Wizard captains this dark ship and its crew of Shadows, wreaking havoc in naval warfare. The Smiling Phantom is a sleek warship from Nocturnus whose main purpose is to quickly sail in close to an enemy ship, sneak a Shadow on board, and sail quickly away; she rarely engages directly in battle. This Shadow then possesses the enemy captain, giving Happy control over the crew and ship; chaos ensues… A few more photos are on flickr.

I like the variety of textures incorporated into this build, the colour combinations work very nicely as well . One other thing about the photos - they turned out a bit too blue-y; depending on what your using to take the photos, this can probably be fixed with changing the 'white-balance' setting if available. (There's often a few choices like: daylight, cloudy, tungsten. fluorescent, auto...). One of these will make it look less blue (although, if you change where you take the photos, this setting will probably need to be changed again)...

Book II - Nocturnus: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Emma replied to ZCerberus's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nocturnus is a little less quite then usual Looking forward to seeing your builds again Dr. Rod; and I anticipate awesomeness from this Z/Torgar collab. I've finally thought up an idea for the Warlords - hopefully I can get stage one built next week (definitely . And I have a GNAR ship ready to go, just struggling to get some decent pictures... -
This is beautiful - awesome work Gabe. Love the water, the sails, and especially how the back (stern?) area kinda looks like a kraken with the curved parts and the shields that look like eyes.

The shape of the border is really cool and the fig posing is excellent - I especially like the guy bailing water. I wonder if a bit of blue mixed in with the clear pieces might enhance the wateriness appearance a bit...

Emma replied to ZCerberus's topic in Guilds of Historica
Welcome Microdragons! I think I'll be sticking with the pumpkin though. -
Really nice work Mass The shape of the ship is superb, the photography+effects top notch, and a good story too. I wonder, if perhaps a black/dark backdrop might have enhanced the gloom of the Nocturnus swamps a bit for the story images...

Book II Challenge II - Avalonian Civil War! - RESULTS POSTED
Emma replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
I really like the way you've set this up rogueang . Sign me up - any side is fine. -
Thanks for the comments! I'm glad this guy was able to take down some Spire grunts, despite those bad guys prevailing overall, lol. Another thing with the fiber optic cable is it works great as part of the structural support, here it's a key part in keeping the head attached to the neck and the neck attached to the body. @Cara: I love your stuff! I've often admired how wonderfully organic your builds are, especially the fantasy creatures. @Gabe: fortunately, going with all black meant I only had to worry about figuring out the structure/shape... your Emerald dragon has both a wonderful shape and a great colour scheme, now that's impressive!

RESULTS INCLUDED: Book II- Challenge 1- The Battle for Nocturnus.
Emma replied to ZCerberus's topic in Guilds of Historica
Aww, Black Spire as the victor, eh? Nocturnian's will regroup and be ready to take down the Spire next time around . Anyways, congrats to the winning team (well deserved with many superb builds) and to Gunman and Torgar on their individual wins . Looking forward to Challenge II.
