[MOC] Blade Runner "Spinner" from a recent LEGO competition I
mrcp6d replied to Kattstrumpa's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Absolutely gorgeous! Really nice presentation too with the editing. Gonna have to watch the movie again this weekend.... -
The unconventional shape is pretty cool and of course orange and blue are always a good idea for space! I do agree with the comments about a jumbled color scheme. I'm not at all an expert on color blocking, but you might try picking one non-greeble color and only lightly accenting it with a second color. I guess here that would mean a whole lot more orange and a little bit less blue since the cockpit is orange.

In the winter, it IS pretty much all snow! The southern parts only thaw out a bit in the (short!) summer time.
-
Eh, mainly joking there. Southern Mitgardia is fairly snow free in the summer. Heck, even I built this with absolutely no snow: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mrcp6d/9860952985/ Get multiples of 2--they're great for horse (or camel) carried rucksacks!

I would add a mix of tan sand and bley rock structure, especially since you're using tan (very effectively too!) as a major wall color. Some more tan on the ground would I think better sell the typical Kaliphlin landscape. Also, easy on the pictures... when I have to scroll through pics that are about 66% of the thread and I'm posting reply 16, I have to believe you've overdone it. Posting 1-3 pictures and then a link to the gallery is fine.

Nicely done. The angled fences add some needed character to a phase 1 build. I do wish the Mitgardian colors were displayed though, especially with a castle wall that's just asking for a flag pole or banner. I use green and yellow hands a lot on spears and walking sticks to work the colors in if a set of flags would be too overpowering. I saw the technique first here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/43547163@N08/sets/72157628200693877, which incidentally is the MOC that finally got me on board here!

I feel one must apply the same sort of logic to the castle theme as the space theme. Meaning that the "classic" periods of both are those that see the use of the old helmet, and in my opinion most importantly, the lack of LEGO-defined factions. In the space theme, "classic" space ended when Futron/Blacktron were released. In the castle theme, "classic" castle ended when Crusaders/Black Falcons appeared.

LEGO has actually put out some pretty good minifig-scale anvils in a few of the official sets. You might some of those out. Like LordDan said, I think the usually use some sort of SNOT piece. I second this motion!

Looks great to me...... now get some snow & ice in there!
-
Wedge, I think this is your best castle MOC to date. Clean and composed on the outside and the interior is icing on the cake.

Gorgeous build all around--the woodwork is spot-on, I love those windows, and the jumper plates add some great texture to the walls. How'd you do the windmill blade connection? These?
-
Very polished build, love all the details.

Awesome micro build

In this case, I don't think it's really the studs on top as much as it's the choice of brick. The harsh angle created by the inverted slope looks odd and unsupported. Going with 1x2s instead would have helped I think--studs or no studs. Or, if you've got the pieces, start the inverted slopes a level lower and then bring them back with a regular slope, kind of like this: ZC (left) and Torgar (right) both brought the battlements out a stud with an inverted slope and then pulled them back in with a right-side-up slope(s).

Aaaaaaannnnnd Sarah just owned you guys. Educationally too--"diaphanous" is indeed a new vocab word. -
With all those mushrooms, we know why it's dancing! Are those blue ones LEGO? I've never seen that color...
-
The studliness works quite well here. If I were to make a suggestion, it would be to integrate a secondary color. I feel like we're losing some of this guy due to the mono-color.

Amazing Gabe, you never fail to impress!

Dude, seriously? 1. This thing is TALL 2. The battlements are incredible, I'll have to remember that technique 3. The integration of the Tudor sections is, frankly, perfect 4. I do agree that the ground is a bit boring - maybe hit it with some random dark orange? Crackin' me up man, crackin' me up...
-
Heck yeah! I was hoping we'd have some awesome dragons show up for Mitgardia. The color choices in this are awesome, in addition to the general shaping.

Very nice. That technique really lends itself to insect wings. Colors are great too! -
Mmmmm, this one's nice! Do you have any shots of the beastie stretched out?
