Heck of a debut MOC! What strikes me most is the shaping of the tower's roof. The height of that section is a cool stylistic choice.

Columns look awesome.

Thanks! I wonder how much of the tan vs. white might be due to the crappy photography. A little darker in general than it ought to be, focus is jacked up, color is shifted pretty far in the blue direction, etc. I was up against a deadline and didn't have time to reshoot/edit. Oh well. I still like the tan, but I might go Photoshop it white just to see. Thanks Grover! There might have been too much landscaping in my build for the contest--even though we were all warned against it, I don't think I would have been able to call this "done" and therefore postable online without a base and foliage. I have a couple of the 6020 set that was the prize so I'm not bothered too much. Glad you like the colors, the red sort of blending with the brown was what I was curious about when I started. For this build, no, the Snyders weren't really part of my thinking. I do have a couple MOC ideas based on some of their techniques I'd like to hammer out in the future though.

The tooth pieces in the columns are the standout piece usage here for me; they create a really cool effect. As Kai said, the light blue accents throughout the MOC tie it all together; and I really wish I had more than a couple of those 3-leaf stem pieces!

Lovely cart SK. The ladder pieces work really well here.

Cool wooden tower. Roof looks like it can take a beating and the bracing around the posts is perfect. Presenting the tower in conjunction with a highly graded landscape works very well too.
-
Color choices here are sweet. The tan base is a bit unusual and works really well and the 1x2 dark bley tiles create a neat effect as others have stated.

Foliage is on point here, tree canopies are great in particular. I'm not sure the trunks are as successful though as they're a little too mechanical-looking for me. I've used the same pieces for trunks before and have either tried really hard to cover up most of the Technic pieces with leaves or have scrapped the idea in favor of another solution. The low camera angle works well here; though, moving a couple of the bushes to the back so we can see more of the army column would probably be better. I've received feedback myself about putting too many things in the foreground of an MOC too ; it's something I've got to constantly think about when building.

Awesome Ecc, simply awesome! 6086 is my favorite LEGO castle set, by far and this update is fantastic. I love how you used the curved slopes to emulate the old raised base plate and the switch from black to dark bley looks great. I might not have put the horizontal stripe in the rounded towers, but that's a minor complaint I think.

Nice mosaic work, both in the map and in the walls/columns. As others have stated, the arch technique above the doors is really cool. The photography here with the light coming through the windows is fantastic.

In Mitgardia near the Avalonian border the climate is much milder than the rest of the guild. With shorter winters and less snow, village buildings lean towards construction methods commonly seen throughout Avalonia's central and eastern lush green landscapes. I've been wanting build a house using techniques from Luke Hutchinson's early MOCs and his excellent guide to building a medieval village for a while and the classic-castle.com monthly challenge for March was just the nudge I needed to get it done. While the style and execution aren't new (almost 9 years old!), I did want to see how a classic red roof meshed with reddish-brown and tan half-timber walls. Overall, I think it works quite well. Also, my first freebuild in a very long time, so that's cool. More pics here.

@Aurore This thread from way back has some Cedrican figs and banners and whatnot. Dark red banners, plumes, capes, etc., Greek/Roman style helmets/armor, and chrome weapons are what I think we've seen most often to represent the Crown's guards/soldiers.

The barding/blanket you put together here is awesome.

Lovely build! The the blades on the windmill are really cool and you're right about the round tower technique, it's brilliant.
-
Impressive build SK and LJ! The snow here is perfect, not overdone but certainly enough. The waterfall tucked away in the rear is a cool concept and well executed. I love the small trees. The stairs and railings are masterpieces.

Those brick bricks are kind of hard to use with multiple colors in buildings this size as you get a lot of the grout lines lining up vertically. I'm not a "crazy detailed texture" builder, so I like using them in 2's or maybe 3's in conjunction with mostly regular 1/2 bricks to give a little bit of texture to a stone wall. But, if I were a "crazy detailed texture" builder, I'd be using more 1x2 plates, 1x2 rounded plates, 1x2 tiles, modified 1x2 plates, and headlight/studs on the side bricks to create the "small bricks" texture we often see.

Another giant build for Mitgardia! Lots of cool architecture techniques here, Ecc. As others have mentioned, the Nexo tiles as shingles work perfectly and the layered stories to the castle as the structure moves up/through the mountain allows for showcasing all of those tiles.

Great work on the arches in general, but greater work with the MOC's concept and the camera/lighting!

I like how you were able to make this look very elvish and yet still stout. Using white elements I think certainly helped. Also, the structure is quite well integrated with the landscape, which is kind of impressive given your use of those corner panels.

Sweet build. Lots of little details to absorb.

Epic build ME! Obviously the shear size is impressive, but each of the buildings and sections of landscaping could be lovely MOCs all by themselves. The little docks and stairs spread throughout sell the swampy setting and the castle is imposing if somewhat unconventional in that it is nestled in trees and not really on elevated ground. My favorite detail is the spiderweb buried in the roof of the building at the front.

Really nicely executed build. Snow is on point, the tree adds some character, and I really like the building--especially the windows and roofing on the second story. -
Book III Challenge IV Category A: An Axe Throwing Agreement

Thanks Kai! Yeah, about the throne; camera angles on this were terrible. I wanted the columns to be close enough to each other to have some sort of credibility (holding up a mountain and all) so that drove some sub-optimal photography. Thanks guys! Ha! Thanks ME, felt good to build a little bit!
