  1. Yeah, the 4449 Daylight would be awesome. I'll never forget seeing that beauty running in Portland, Oregon. Since we're 'dreaming' here, how about one in American Freedom Train colors as well? My Dad took me down to the Arch in 1976 to see it and I've even got a print of it that I picked up at the station in Washington, Missouri hanging on my wall here in Beijing! The GG1 would be cool as well. Heck, if they issued that thing I'd string cantenary. Is that SP 4460 at the Museum of Transportation in St. Louis? If so, I'd forgotten. Where's that GG1, The museum in Union, Illinois? I've not been there yet but I really want to go, it's about the only major transportation museum in the US I haven't been to. Cheers, Joe
  2. Yes, that looks really nice. Joe
  3. I like the Comic Sans Serif font myself. Sorry but I dunno about the figs but they look cool. Joe
  4. A really, really nice job. Thanks for sharing! Joe
  5. Suberb! Thanks! Joe
  6. Very cool, thanks for sharing. I also like your avatar. What did you use to do the layout drawing if I may ask? Thanks, Joe
  7. A 2-8-2 Mikado would really be an excellent choice IMO. That engine always attracted me (maybe because of the huge tender, I dunno). It turned up in a lot of countries (particularly the US) as well, so that's always a plus, isn't it? The EN is a beauty but it doesn't fit my layout so I didn't buy it. Would a 2-8-2 with a large tender fit on Lego track? I'm not that familiar with L gauge, yet. Guess it would need some articulation at the halfway point of the eight wheels? That would be fun to build and watch chugging around the track, wouldn't it? It would be a nice project for Jamie Berard, he seems to have some regrets about the EN's flaws and he could redeem himself! Joe
  8. It gives a whole new meaning to being high! I like it a lot, thanks for sharing. Joe
  9. Yeah it sounds kinda weird 'on the surface' of it, so to speak , having a big steam engine running in a tunnel but was pretty common in large cities. Grand Central Station and Penn Station in NYC both have/had long underground approaches if memory serves. The steam, heat and smoke caused quite a lot of problems - as you can imagine - what with the limited air circulation and whatnot. I'm hoping to have a big basement to set up a layout in soon, so I can't really relate to your project. It sounds like a fun challenge though. Have fun, Joe
  10. They put that ridiculous Mr. Gold on the timeline as well? Are they just trying to piss people off? Joe
  11. Thanks for sharing this with us! Joe
  12. You actually built that thing?!? Get outta here!?! Wow, crazy, those guns have always fascinated me. Thanks for sharing. Joe
  13. I really like that a lot, thanks for sharing! Joe
  14. It's a beautiful Lego train, but only you can say whether it's worth it or not, right? I would pay that much for it. How about a nice 2-8-2 Mikado for Lego's next Creator engine? It's a magnificent engine that was utilized in numerous countries around the world. Joe
  15. Very cool, thanks for sharing! Joe
  16. Nice, thanks for sharing! Joe
  17. That's really nice, I hope to build something as nice as that some day. Stations are a big part of the fascination I have with trains. They're where the journey begins, right? Post more photos if you've the chance! Joe
  18. Welcome and thanks for sharing those photos with us. Have fun, Joe
  19. There are so many more parts these days, it seems more difficult TO DESIGN WELL now than it did then. 4.5v was 'my time' and given enough bricks - Mom! Dad! C'mon! - could've built the things in that book at the age of eight. Also, the buildings were certainly smaller and simplier, weren't they? Lego trains never used to turn me on much, they were too 'blocky' IMO. They were also quite expensive at the time. Maybe a better way to look at it would be to say that consumers are lazier now? We can just buy cool sets. Anyway, it looks fun to build that stuff. I'd like to make a crane car and station myself but am planning on using modern parts. Have fun, Joe
  20. Hey! Cool photos, thanks for posting those! It's nice to see a real-life Maersk. 3677 also reminded me of engines in Holland, until I saw that photo of the Lithuanian shunter. Joe
  21. I can't wait to get 7939 myself, have been holding off as it's spendy here in China. It really seems like the best set. The truck and containers are interesting to me, that's probably another reason I like the Maersk as well. The crane will probably be a fun play feature for my son. He's only three but likes to play with 3677 and fiddle around with the rocks, hopper car and conveyor belt thing. The engine in 3677 is a little odd IMO but it's compellingly odd and it's a great set in it's own right. I also like rolling stock and have been stocking up on Enlighten knock-offs. They're so incredibly cheap here ($3 for a box car with a fork-lift!) I'd be a fool not to. Have fun, Joe
  22. Lego trains are great, aren't they? Extra engine? What did you get? I think you can find extra rolling stock on eBay and/or buy multiple sets and sell what you don't need on eBay, can't you? Joe
  23. Very nice, where do those parts come from? Joe
