  1. Nice review, thanks! I think they're coming out with a new stunt plane this year, it'll be interesting to compare the two. Joe
  2. Cool shark and dock, thanks! Joe
  3. Welcome! You can never go wrong with a good train. Have fun, Joe
  4. Hey, great, many thanks! We don't have anything like that in the Mid-western part of the US so I was a little baffled. Honestly, I still am a little bit because I'm not exactly sure what it's function is but at least I now have a direction to research in. Joe
  5. Yeah, the pizza and bike shop competition is getting fierce in Lego Town. The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of a town square isn't a big crane but don't let me rain on your parade. Joe
  6. Very cool, thanks for sharing! Joe
  7. Those are really swell, thanks for sharing! I've been playing around with Duplo with my boy a lot lately myself. Joe
  8. Very cool, thanks for sharing! Joe
  9. A for effort but will the colors and design match? The yellow matches the Lone Ranger boxes though, so it might work. Joe
  10. Is there such a thing as a bad Lego train set? Buy them all! I've had 3677 in my hands for a few days now, it's fun and my boy loves it of course. The engine is a beauty, photos don't do it justice. I'm crazy about that maintence truck myself. There are a ton of parts in that little thing, very solid. Edit; Sorry if I strayed from your original topic a bit. Like others have said; the yellow cargo train 7939 is the best set to start with. 3677 was discontinued so I bought it first, it looks like 7939 will be around longer. There are some cool extra's in 7939 and the engine could also service as a passenger engine. There's a Chinese company named 'Enlighten' that makes passable and affordable passenger cars. I also like Kivi's suggestion above if you want to spend more. Have fun! Joe
  11. Beautiful, thanks for sharing. Joe
  12. Three of Mr. Christiansen's decendant's are now billionaires, is that correct? That's business and life I guess. Joe
  13. Somewhere I read that Lego eventually bought Kiddiecraft (for reasons that are probably pretty clear) but I couldn't find that info on the 'History of Lego' on Wikipedia just now. Cheers, Joe
  14. Hear, hear...I agree 100%. They've released some cool trains recently to what? Sit on a dusty shelf? Thanks, Joe
  15. So I guess that explains why I get a little confused when people get worked up over so-called 'clone brands'. Thanks, Joe
  16. Whoa, so awesome! I love it, especially the stone lions. Any chance you could share some of the building techniques for classic Chinese architecture with us here? The little Toys R Us truck is cute, I was at one today here in Beijing with my boy, we got the new little Creator eagle set. Thanks, Joe
  17. Very cool! That wire is so thin, it looks like hair. Joe
  18. Those Alien Conquest and Lone Ranger sets have really cool art, don't they? I'm a little bit partial to 10250: The funniest for me would have to be the guy with the toliet paper: Cheers, Joe
  19. That's a beautiful collection of Lego trains, you should be very proud of those. It's especially nice how you have them on the shelves like that. Hope your new home has lots of space for a big layout and we get to see more pics! Thanks, Joe
  20. A very nice piece of work, thanks for sharing. Joe
  21. Looks great! Is that a long set of EN coaches in the background? Joe
  22. Sorry but I don't understand. It does not what? There was a real nice review of the train last week, did you read it? I think it addressed motorizing in the last paragraph. Hope that helps, Joe
  23. We'll probably need to wait a little while for the train to get into general circulation so that folks can tinker around with it a bit. IMO it'll probably be easiest to build a little box car to hold all the PF stuff. That's OK because you could then use that car to power any train, right? Someone posted an LDD rendering a week or so ago where they had gutted the included box car and put the PF in there. Joe
  24. Ok thanks Dave. I was looking through 7777, the Lego Train Idea book (circa 1981) today and came across something very similar. The page scan is a bit large so I'll just post the link here, it's of page 65: http://peeron.com/scans/7777-1/65 The thing is; as you can see from 7777, they're using a crane to lift the (what-do-you-call-those-things-I-forget) push cart off the flat bed but the maintence car from 3677 has no obvious way to be removed. Kinda like there's no way to get the rocks back up into the conveyor belt thing-a-ma-bob. So that's what bends my noodle about 3677, how is the maintence car supposed to be put to use? Anyway, 3677 is a cool set (warts and all) so I just ordered it from Taobao (China's eBay). The price was very reasonable for China, US$ 200, so it must be grey market. The PF components alone cost US$ 90 online here so I can't complain about the price this time.
  25. Thanks for bumping this old review as I had no idea that that 7777 Train Idea book existed. Great stuff! It also reminds me of why I used to walk PAST the Lego on my way to the HO stuff in the back of the hobby shop. Lego trains and accessories cost a fortune to my teenaged-self and were a little 'blocky' as well. I totally understand the love for it though. Joe
