  3. Precisely. I don't think we need so many new specialised parts each year. There are some holes that need to be filled, but more or less, we need more innovative models with the parts available. I'm working on one, lets see if TLG will be interested.

  6. My problem is that the technic designer keep reusing old concepts and do not improove things a bit. Since i'm a car guy i'll make the point with supercar design, but it applies in other areas aswell. The last major revolution in lego supercar design was 8880. The supercars before it each added something unique to the table and 8880 topped it all off with the best suspension/drivetrain/gearbox combo. Since then, all lego supercar suspensions and gearbox designs have been more or less the same. In the past 20 years all supercars used the same suspension design, recycled over and over, all while there was so much potential for interesting setups. Also in gearbox designs, so much potential with realistic gearbox designs and gears that could be used in other areas other than gearboxes. Same with chassis design. The only new thing 8448 brought to the table was panels as a design element, technically it was a step backward since its suspension and drivetrain were just like 8865. What i want from lego (and i'd like to state that i'm willing to design the thing myself) is to make a supercar with some multilink suspension to really push the boundaries. For that we need new low profile wheels that have the same cicrumference as unimogs, with bigger wheels with much more inset and room for suspension components and we need new wheel hubs that will have the 3 pin fastening mechanism for the wheel on one side and room for the big CV joint from the 8880 on the other side. THEN we can talk. I'd make such an awesome audi S5 or similar front and rear multilink chassis with the new panels, working door latches, crowkillers designed killer gearbox, quattro awd system, simple motorisation/rc upgradability and perhaps even some fancy inboard brakes. With the new big square panels and the liftarm box frames its easier than ever to make a big parts efficient unibody chasis that is very rigid and light. All we need are just new wheels and new wheel hubs and lego technic will move into a whole new dimension. This car would be so much fun to drive, even just with the HOG steering, because it would have the suspension it deserves. Would love to put the word "super" back into lego supercar.

  8. I am deeply dissapointed. Untill now i was sure lego produced only in europe and north america. I was wondering why the quality of the plastics dropped in the last years. I think i am done buying new lego sets. Sadly i still need to order individual parts for lego engines and my projects. Is there an email where one can voice their concern to lego?

  10. I am really sad that lego doesn't make better wheels, like the 8448 ones. The ones we have today have such small rims, its so difficult to cram any suspension stuff into this tiny space. But if they decide to make new ones, please do the the size of the unimog wheels (overall diameter) and with a rim design that is more universal and doesn't become dated so fast. Also, please more space inside the rim, like they had on the 8448 rim.
  11. I certanly would not adjust camber like that :) Nice concept, but not good when applied to a model.
  12. That is not a good wheel hub. Much too bulky. Use 4x2 L liftarms and have the steering link connected to a connector to those liftarms. I do however like your use of the 6L and 6.5L suspension links. In order to avoid bump steer you will have to have the 6L steering link as close and paralel to the upper 6L link as possible.
  13. Of course. It'll be a bit bulkier perhaps. Just remember to have the center of the universal joint on the axis that goes from the top pivot to the bottom one. If projected to the ground, the pivot point should be ideally on the edge of the tire or slightly inside of it.

  15. It's true for all angles. Kingpin and caster being the most important ones. If you have a kingpin, the steering gets a tendency to return to center and if you have a positive caster, the vehicle is much more stable in a straight line. Both combined make for a very fun drive. Name the wheels of your choice and i'll make you a simple suspension, so you can test it out yourself.
  16. You'd be suprised how much more fun it is to use a HOG steering on a car with proper geometry, even with the slack in lego parts. It drives so much better than one without geometry. It is totally worth it.
  17. Also, avoid gearboxes if the vehicle doesn't REALLY need them, and reinforce the axle sections that are exposed with half bushes, to reduce torsion.

  19. The universal sets for kids were called BASIC sets. And those were awesome aswell.

  21. You don't understand... in real life, no vehicle will have 4 shafts connecting to one axle, because every engineer knows that it is not a good idea. :)
  22. What i find interesting is, that there's been no universal sets in the past 20 years... i find this lack of universal sets greatly disturbing. Loved those. 8020, 8030, 8040, 8050... Also, time for another idea book.
