  1. Thank you so much! There are a lot of details that I still prefer in yours, but this was a really fun exercise. I agree that the lighting will make a huge difference, but I couldn't wait to post pics. :)
  2. Well, I made good on this promise. I had to try a version for myself:
  3. I threatened to do my own MOC inspired by @the Inventor and his outstanding Golden Crown Inn It is so well executed and designed, I just had to take a run at my own version. So please don't think I'm copying or trying to steal your thunder, Inventor. Your MOC just inspired me to give something similar a shot, and it was very fun and rewarding to do so. The dimensions were dictated by my shelving, as I made this to absolutely fill a shelf in my display area. As always, parts inventory dictated some creative solutions, and as I was going along, I had some other ideas such as the bull skull ove the bar and antler chandelier that helped to personalize it a bit. Also, the Inventor clearly is a better photographer than I am, but hopefully this will do. The name is a nod to my favorite English pub in town, the Bull & Bush. I intend to get some lighting for the windows and to light up the stage for the band.
  4. I like watching those guys. It's rare to find people that think about this stuff as in-depth as we do here. Based on that clip, I think they did a good job summing up. They have dozens and dozens of countries to protect the copyright in, and weren't vigilant in doing so, so they could run into legal issues using new product with old graphics that they didn't work to protect over the years. One thing worth noting, but Brick Monarch would probably be in a good position to know this stuff, since he produces things like stickers and wall-mount shields with past heraldry artwork on it. This copyright abandonment issue might explain how he's able to get away with that. But I'm no copyright lawyer, so I don't know. Pretty sure he's done stuff with the newest version of the Black Falcons heraldry on it. Maybe his shop just isn't big enough to get the ban hammer from TLG lawyers?
  5. I just went through those photos, and I'm not seeing anything that would translate. I see a plain round shield, a goofy, chunky sword and a hama, which might fit with an asian historic vibe, but isn't much use for castle. As for armor, all I see is the single-shoulder pauldron piece that is hopefully pearl dark grey, which would be nice, but nothing to get too excited about. I would love to be wrong about this. What are you seeing that I'm not?
  6. Agree to disagree I guess. From my point of view, 3 waves and not a single Gondor soldier is a fail, plain and simple. I didn’t have any problem finding everything at retail. Maybe it’s a geographical thing? I’m in Texas.
  7. I remember the time when this theme was on the market well, and that last LotR wave was questionable. Obviously, relative to the castle drought we got after LotR went away, it was fantastic, but if we're talking about the theme at it's best (and worst), that last wave had a very strange set selection that left out some important scenes.
  8. Well spotted! That is a great idea.
  9. Don’t forget Gondor! Battle for Osgiliath or battle trolls crashing the gate is a must. Heck, I’d settle for the white tree and some soldiers.
  10. I just googled “Lego Dungeons & Dragons” and this was the first organic result: https://ideas.lego.com/blogs/a4ae09b6-0d4c-4307-9da8-3ee9f3d368d6/post/376f06d7-3f99-4b00-8865-178ab877d9be Here’s another question: on what criteria are you voting? I love the execution on the Dragon’s Keep, but the concept of the Monster Manual is great, I just don’t love how it’s done. Not that I could do better, but I think it has a lot of potential. We all know that the final product is often changed quite a bit by the time it’s released, and I think Lego designers could really run with that idea. So am I better off voting for the concept or the one that’s already the most beautiful?
  11. I'm confused on this D&D voting. Did they select only a handful of submissions for voting? There were lots more submitted, at least a few of which I thought were at least as good or better than the 5 that we can vote on.
  12. You know that feeling when you see a MOC and you instantly feel the need to make it yourself? Yeah, that's what this does for me. I love it!
  13. Yup, this one is super solid. Nice that we have a video review up already, I just wish there were close-ups that were better lit and more stable.
  14. Nicely done! I must say, the “stretched hide” detail is pretty cool.
  15. I think you’re onto something. As far as historic figs go, I think the peaked with the Rogue CMF.
  16. I would say the "Heroic Knight" with the Crownie heraldry would qualify as a real continuation. Not truly classic though, so your point is well taken.
  17. Now that we have high res images, I couldn't be more happy with this Archer/Falconer. The left arm printing for the falconer glove is just sublime. On the Troll/Orc, I think it's fantastic and I will be getting many, but I can't help but feel that the heraldry on the shield, while thematically appropriate, is inferior to the old fantasy era heraldry. It just feels a tad cartoony in it's style.
  18. You said that better than I could, but yes. Agreed on all points.
  19. My guess is that they were going for a papillon. I believe that’s what she had historically and in form they’re quite similar to chihuahuas. They could have made it more clear by printing the butterfly face/ear coloring that most of them have, so that’s a missed opportunity.
  20. I got 1.5! lol, I’m giving myself a half point for the Black Falcons archer even though I guessed Lion knights. There are black and white stripes on that ref though! edit: that may be just a reflection on black sleeves on the ref, but I’m still counting it!
  21. Fandamntastic! Couldn’t be happier with the these.
  22. Right. Same with a pink castle full of minidolls.
  23. And the link provided is specific to the Blacktron offering, pointing to the different news sources covering it.
  24. Your link isn’t working for me, but I did go look at the submissions so far, and I must say that I’m really happy with what I’m seeing. Some nice concepts and designs.
