  1. Thanks, rubberninja. The digital model for this building is not finished yet, but I am not sure if I want to share it when I do. All my dodgy building techniques revealed for the world to see! While I'm flattered that you would like to have some of my buildings in your collection, I would get a lot more satisfaction out of knowing that I inspired you to build your own great MOC rather than building a copy of mine. If you do want to have a go at building it, the images on flickr are all high resolution and downloadable. You can see a lot of detail by zooming in on those. Further, I am happy for you to PM me if you get stuck on any particular detail. Thanks, jamesn. I'm glad you liked it. The differences between the first and second floor weren't in my original plans. I had both the first and second floor facades sitting side by side in front of me for ages, while I was trying to decide which one to go with. (There were about ten versions before I narrowed it down to those two). I couldn't decide between them and then ended up holding them one above the other and the rest is history. Thanks, Vincent. It would have been great to have the ground floor window be exactly the same as my avatar. I did have a couple of different versions mapped out that would allowed the window to be the same width, but none of them looked quite right.
  2. I like the sound of this. I've already been thinking through how to change the fit out of the building!
  3. This looks great, with some really nice parts usage! I particularly like the use of the visors on the tower and how all the structures are connected. Well done.
  4. Great entry and a nice haul of 1x2 trans-black bricks!
  5. Thanks monsijnor. Thanks for the kind words and also for a new word for my vocabulary (I had to look up "Bijou"!).
  6. This is a neat little scene and would make a great addition to any town layout. For the curtains, I'd suggest using 1x1 bricks or 1x2x2 slopes for the bottom part of the curtains.
  7. Congratulations. I noticed you said "boys", as in plural. I am flat out with one girl that age, let alone two boys. Anyway, they should be proud of their dad.
  8. Did you get in trouble for buying those series 9 minifigures? Looking forward to seeing the rebuild. No suggestions, I quite liked it just the way it was.
  9. Myer Brisbane has stocked up on some new 2013 sets, but not everything yet and there was still less space devoted to LEGO than normal. Here is what I remember: Legends of Chima: 70000 Razcal's Glider ($15) 70003 Eris' Eagle Interceptor ($45) + one other $45 set (probably 70004) + 3 of the $23 sets with Speedorz bikes City: 60002 Fire Truck 60003 Fire Emergency 60016 Tanker Truck ($30) 60017 Flatbed Truck ($30) 60018 Cement Mixer ($30) Friends: All of the new sets except the pool and the animal series. They also had the 10660 Pink Suitcase with the Friends sets and a box of CMF series 9 on the counter. Couldn't see any new Star Wars or Creator. There were still sale signs up everywhere, but no Lego on sale.
  10. Awesome prizes! Just waiting on a couple of BrickLink orders to add the finishing touches to my entry.
  11. Thanks, cimddwc and chocolate cake. Thanks, Redhead. I do the building using Bricksmith (files are in *.ldr format) and step by step instructions using LPub (which can export PDFs). I also have LDView installed as the renderer for LPub and to take snapshots of the finished building. I use a Mac with OSX. Thanks, cosmolon. The best option is BrickLink for both parts and custom instructions. BrickCityDepot has some interesting buildings, but I've never bought instructions from them, so I can't really comment on the quality of the product or service.
  12. I know what I'll be doing tomorrow. Will let you know what new sets they have stocked.
  13. Thanks, greg3, Legogal and Pandora. I really appreciate all the nice comments. Thanks, LegoDr. A lot of my inspiration comes from real buildings, albeit older buildings. Until I came out of my dark ages, I never really appreciated how beautiful some of the older buildings are. So richly detailed ... so much to be inspired by. The stepped part in the roof is just a combination of 1x2 plates and jumper plates. Yep, just for you, Jonathon. Glad I can give some inspiration back, given how much you and the Lego community have given me. Thanks, too, for the blog post!
  14. Definitely warmed up to this one now. The star tiles are great, lots of grill bricks in tan , lots of 1x6 dark tan bricks !! I think they could have done a little more with the interior, but that's the beauty of Lego ... we can make it whatever we want it to be.
  15. Nice, bustling little street. I often forget to add minifigs to my scenes, but they make a big difference to bringing a creation alive. You can definitely see the influences from the modular series, but it's different enough to be your own. Well done!
  16. Wow, this building looks amazing! It would be even more impressive in real bricks, but at 21,000 bricks that would be quite an investment. I think the section with the arches would work well as a stand alone modular and the straight section provides a nice base for a 16-wide residential building.
  17. This is a great little build, with some nice details, like the snow on top of the fence posts. The pot belly stove is awesome! But the story is a little sad. I really hope that doesn't reflect the Christmas you just had.
  18. Thanks, SwissBrick. Not sure what to say, other than I'm x3! I'm going to look into options, I promise. No idea on the parts count, yet. I do have electronic versions (in *.ldr format ) for most of my MOCs in case I want to rebuild them at a later date. However, I haven't finished the one for this building yet. Will let you know when it's done.
  19. My thoughts exactly. Each to their own, but my view is that Lego is meant to be built with, played with and displayed proudly. I cringe when my almost 6.y.o daughter pulls out the sand green, sand blue, dark orange, dark blue, etc, boxes, but I can't tell her not to play with them. I want her to enjoy them as much as I do, and explore her creative side. Further, I haven't been out of my dark ages all that long, but have noticed some yellowing on my white bricks and that's with very little direct sunlight. Unless they go totally off-colour, I think a little of variation in colour adds to the texture of a building.
  20. This is beautiful (am I allowed to used that word in the Star Wars forum?). It would definitely be in my collection if it were an official set.
  21. Thanks, everyone, for the nice comments. I'm really glad you like it! Thanks, for the suggestions, Phazon. However, the objective of this building was to convert my avatar into a modular building. I think using columns and arches on the ground floor would be straying too far from my usual avatar (see third picture in my signature). An interesting challenge and it would be kind of cool to see a line up of this building in different themes. You've got my mind racing with ideas now! The double doors are so that the apartment can be accessed without having to go through the store. Mind you, with only 7 bags on the shelves, they'd each have to sell for a pretty penny to pay the lease on the building! Maybe I should put double locks on the doors. Thanks, daisy. I'm not good at refrigerators. I did build one for this, but wasn't happy with it. A little more tinkering around with the design before I include it in a building. Thanks, Hobbythom, and welcome to Eurobricks. Hope to see some of your own creations soon. Thanks, nana. As L@go pointed out, there is one on display inside the store and one in the storeroom. The purple bag is the one used in my avatar. Hence, it gets the front window!
  22. Thanks! And, go for it, I'd be honoured. Thanks, Phazon. You're right. My eyes are drawn to the upper floors, too. I thought about a shop sign of some sort, but couldn't figure out how to incorporate that. It could definitely use a little extra something on the ground floor.
  23. Welcome to Eurobricks!
  24. I was wondering where the beast was and then realised of course that he didn't get sucked into the lamp. Nothing "meh" about the build - its got my favourite couch in it and the flowers look fantastic!
  25. Hi everyone. Here is my latest modular building. It's a handbag store, called "Coveted Clutch", that is based on my normal avatar. The store is on the ground floor and there is an apartment upstairs where the store owner and designer of the handbags lives. The bit from my avatar is the left side of the storefront, changed a little to make it wider and taller. I think of it as Soho meets Friends. Enough babble, here are some photos. My favourite part - the first floor windows. Overview of the store on the ground floor: Dining, lounge and kitchen on the first floor: Bedroom and bathroom on the second floor: More photos on flickr. C&C welcome!
