Unless case distribution really took into account the most popular Doctors, I don't think a CMF line would really work. To many new molds for aliens and, as mentioned, very plain Doctors. I could see a lot of CMF boxes being picked over due to this. I really don't think Lego should have made a special mold for the Dalek, but just a better build. I'm also hoping they make those Dalek bricks in other colors, as the general outline of their Dalek is basic enough to make other colored versions.

I can see why the Sith Infiltrator is so high - it's releasing right when SW is about to blow up again. Parents will think it's retro (being from a 16 year old movie) and won't mind paying that much when SW is all the craze again.

That mask with goggles is huge! Those look like giant gag sunglasses.

Like other IPs, who knows if the stuff they show for TFA will even be accurate to scenes from the final movie. Age of Ultron had Cap A on a cycle when it should have been Widow, for example.

Wow, I'm on the fence with the new Dalek. I like that it's brick built, but I don't like how square it seems. I managed to make a reasonable Dalek using questionable build techniques that looks more shapely. Otherwise, if the Dalek looked better, it could be a pretty good pack with the Cyberman. Granted the price is alittle rough, we're not going to see very much Who stuff, so I'll take what I can get.

Ha! My local Lego store also had a bin with a bajillion wrenches. I have no idea why Lego would think anyone would ever need that many. Swords maybe, spears possibly, but wrenches...

Very G1! The color could work as a Constructicon.

I don't remember which set as a kid was my first, but coming out of my dark ages as an AFOL it was X-Wing 6212. Still have the set and it's one of my favorites.

I would say build lots of sets to start, as the process of building is the best way to learn techniques. These could be official Lego sets or just ideas that you have, so long as it gets you in the process and mindset of connecting bricks in new ways. Eventually, you'll be able to look at other completed sets or MOCs and be able to decipher how the designers accomplished what they did. It also helps me a lot to break down the MOC into easier to digest sections. For example, you could consider the base of the police lot - will it have a trim around the base, will it be SNOT, etc. Then look at other areas like the height and width and how the walls will look. Then consider the inside and potentially cosmetic areas on the outside. One building could be six or seven different main components. Lastly, work with ideas and designs that you like. Some people love certain techniques, so it's important to find you niche. And brick on!

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
HawkLord replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
That's the thing to remember - you're paying $200+ for the cardboard on the SDCC set. The bricks and figures are all very much cheaper to get elsewhere. -
It's always funny when a toy company won't actually come out and say they no longer have the license to a given IP. With action figures, you never really find out the license was gone until someone else starts to make figures of the same IP later. We might find out that A competitor company picked up LOTR, but that's unlikely considering Lego has let it go and other fantasy building toys have passed - MegaBlok's WoW and Hasbro's D&D.

With regards to Phasma, I'm betting she won't even take off her helmet in the first movie. They'll save it as a reveal for the second or third. Which means, Lego will have a version to sell now and later.

Awesome design and execution. All the flags look really good and, as mentioned, the variety helps. Plus the minifigures were well chosen and look appropriately varied and happy. Very well done!

If it's a polybag, then I don't care. If it's like the white Spaceman box from last year, then I'd be in as I think that would be a cool promo sub-line.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 14 Rumors and Discussion
HawkLord replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Skeleton Guy = Cobra Kai... that's gonna happen. Now, I need a Mr. Miyagi type figure and the CMF Martial Artist. -
I expect them to retire soon, in the fall at the latest. I also don't think they'll jump in price. Most of the LOTR stuff can still be had at retail or close to it on the secondary market. Uruk-hai army being the major exception. Hobbit being less of a fan favorite, will probably not jump.

Really, really good. If Lego made this into a set, I would buy it on day one, no question. "Fantastic" job!

Current List of Marvel Villains - also who do we want, officially?
HawkLord replied to Krikkit's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'd like to see a number of characters from groups that Lego may not have access to if Marvel is still warring with production companies. Specifically, most Brotherhood of Mutants and Fantastic Four villains. Mystique, Pyro, Blob, Sabretooth, Avalanche, Annihilus, Blastaar, etc. -
Moc builders vs Collectors, Lego civil war!
HawkLord replied to PaddyBricksplitter's topic in General LEGO Discussion
If you think collecting sealed sets is bad, just think of all the people that get sealed sets graded by AFA. Grading cardboard boxes... sheesh... -
Moc builders vs Collectors, Lego civil war!
HawkLord replied to PaddyBricksplitter's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I used to collect a ton of sealed action figures and 1/6 scale figures knowing I had a collection worth money. It sat in plastic totes pretty much all the time I owned them except maybe a couple times a year where I would take them out and look at them. It got kinda sad. I was collecting and hording ideas and concepts and not actual items. I was more worried about card and blister condition than what it was. Lego changed that for me because I had to open them to make sure stuff was there. I had heard horror stories of people buying lego sets only to find that someone had taken the Lego and replaced it with knock off material or the like. So, then sets I had wanted to keep sealed were pointless. Now I open everything and in opening everything I get to enjoy it more because I actually interact with the product and not cardboard. -
I think the idea/thread for Future LOTR Sets can be dropped or closed and maybe a new thread for LOTR Dimensions may be worthwhile and more informative.

Looks like according to the TRU ad, the Gallimimus Polybag is free with $30 purchase. This means, I'm probably stuck waiting until the sale ends to see if they show up in a bin for individual sale, like the Rocket Raccoon polybag. Update: I hit the local TRU and they had the polybags in a bin with sign stating to take one to the register with purchase, however the bags also rang up on their floor scanners at $3.99. I took three to checkout and was able to buy them on their own with no additional purchase. Score!

Will there be a report on the cause of death? Because that has been hugely debated. :P Seems to me it was suicide...

Instruction booklets: why can't they be uniform?
HawkLord replied to Werlu Ulcur's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I store my instructions in accordion folders from Target which works well for all sizes, so it doesn't bother me too much. I would agree that the bent instructions is the worst piece of Lego QC. Printing, bricks, everything else is in good shape, but instructions almost seem deliberately bent to cram into the boxes. What's funny, is that the boxes have enough room to have the instructions lay flat on one side, but I get some many instructions that are almost wrapped around a bag of the Lego in the set.
