That just looks really, really good. I like that it's simple yet detailed and the whole thing just feels concise and well laid out. Really nice SNOT work and color selection.

Marvel Superheroes 2016 Rumors And Discussion
HawkLord replied to Quicksilver's topic in LEGO Licensed
These are perfect as comic adaptations. I'd pick them up in a second. -
At $500, if they keep it on the shelf for another eight years, I'm sure it would make the costs back.

Outstanding! So many bricks and colors. It must have taken forever to line everything up correctly given all the heights of the plants and whatnot. Some of those bricks I've never seen in those colors before. Very awesome!

REVIEW: 70325 Infernox captures the Queen
HawkLord replied to WhiteFang's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Great review - thank you for posting. There are some nice colors (and trans pieces) and the minifigures look really well done. I think if I was going to pick up a NK set, this could be the one. -
Totally didn't hard this... must be living under a hard rock... But seriously, 2019?!?! I was worried last time that he might be too old to pull it off in 2008 and I was worried about TFA in 2015. Eleven years after KotCS. Well, I guess if anyone could possibly still have it in him, it would be Harrison Ford. I thought KotCS was bad due to writing and directing, but I think Harrison Ford did what he could. Maybe this time with George Lucas out of the equation it could work.

Marvel Superheroes 2016 Rumors And Discussion
HawkLord replied to Quicksilver's topic in LEGO Licensed
I see slight printing discrepancies all the time on minifigures that should be "the same". As a Star Wars Lego collector, I get multiples of the same minifigure with the same printing, but sometimes it'll be off by a slight amount. No where near enough to call it a confirmed variant or anything. Edit: And this is coming from someone who has the 2012 Quinjet. -

That looks perfect to the source material and the trees are very simple yet effective - very nicely done! -
Do you want the Lego collectible bubble to burst?
HawkLord replied to Gomek's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well, the thing is only "collectors" are going after old Lego sets like the UCS Falcon. There's much better alternatives out there in terms of Falcons and certainly better minifigures out there. Same is true with Cloud City. "Flippers" are going after anything they can buy and tuck away for later. They're not trying to buy UCS Falcons because the cost of the investment is too high. Might as well go after things like the Ant-Man set and hoard it because it was a one-and-done item for a Marvel movie that got overshadowed. Easier to ship and the profit margin could be better. With some stuff like Star Wars and Marvel we're seeing two dynamics in play. One - the movies are coming so fast that shelf life is reduced. Ant-Man is a good point, it got too crowded compared to AoU. Two - the boom is causing a lot more "flippers" to come out and grab as much material as they can to sell in the future. A lot of people are looking at this like an investment. It's very similar to when people bought up Star Wars action figures in the 90s thinking they'd be worth a ton like the figures from the 70s were. It ended being a huge disappointment. -

HawkLord replied to Gomek's topic in General LEGO Discussion
We're seeing a lot of short runs on licensed sets which can be blamed on the movies, since they seem to have a couple super hero movies per year, for example. They can't afford to keep Ant-Man on the shelves when just around the corner is Civil War, Thor 3, and Doc Strange. If the movies would slow, these sets would stay out longer. -
Wow! I really like it. Great combination of ancient mystical and strange sci-fi tech. The blue/white color scheme works really well against the sand.

That's a really great MOC! Very nicely laid out and arranged. As mentioned, I would also recommend just some trees and foliage to hep blend the scene out with the border. The chairs and the arches on the trim/border are really nicely done.

It's general knowledge from those in the action figure, toy, collectible hobby. Companies have various types of licenses to make types of products in certain regions. For example, Hasbro has rights to make Star Wars action figures in the North American and European markets. This does not prevent other companies from making Star Wars action figures in other markets, like say Asia (in fact there are a couple making such figures now). The action figure license that Hasbro holds prevents anything similar to a Star Wars action figure from being distributed in their market. That's also why Funko must make their Pop Vinyl figures for Star Wars and Marvel in bobble-head form, because Hasbro's license prevents them from making anything that could be considered an action figure in design or execution. Back in 2009, Lego made Star Wars magnet sets that contained a minifigure and base that could be attached to a refrigerator or the like. The minifigure was removeable, so it was a great way to collect Star Wars minifigures. Hasbro supposedly threatened to sue because selling minifigures basically on their own like that infringed on the action figure license. Constraction figures get away with this because they have buildable parts. Likewise Star Wars battle packs get away with this because they also have buildable parts. Now, other companies don't have the same type of license as Hasbro. For example, Mattel makes DC action figures. Funko also makes DC Pop Vinyl figures, but they do not need to be in bobble-head form. Likewise, NECA also made some DC action figures in the past couple years and they would certainly be a direct competition with Mattel.

Do you want the Lego collectible bubble to burst?
HawkLord replied to Gomek's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Right now business is good for Lego because of the boom in collecting/hoarding since 2013-2014. The abundance of licensed IPs really helped make Lego a competitive enough toy product that now an IP knows they "made it" if there's a Lego set of it. Do I want that to end? Not really. If the collecting/hoarding bubble burst then Lego production would decrease to accommodate. I've been collecting since 2009 and have been able to find every Lego item I've been looking for; though granted I'm not a completist or buyer of con exclusives. If product did decrease it could impact the readily available sets that I had faith would always be there. Realistically, though we're still in the upswing. Lego hasn't quite peaked yet in terms of maxing the bubble, so I'm not worried. -
I think the costs associated with that much plastic would be pretty high. If one were to make a raised/terrained baseplate, it would have to have some universal appeal. I would say that's probably why we don't see them made these days. Basically, you would want the baseplate to work in different ways or even different themes, as the novelty of the raised/terrained baseplate could be lost if it's used too often. Then there's shipping. Lego has moved away from larger pieces like that due in part because of how large the box would have to be to ship it in a set. Current flat baseplates are easier to plan shipping options for. I think a third party could make a raised/terrained baseplate, but it is not likely. It's easier for them to make smaller pieces, like weapons and equipment that require very little ideas for use. The casual Lego fan could buy those types of items and get to use them immediately. A raised/terrained baseplate would appeal only to MOCers and currently that crowd seems content with brick-built bases.

If that's considered "small", I have a lot of catching up to do! Looks great. I like how even the forest and terrain is brightly colored like the Nexo Knight sets themselves. And the brick-built trees are brilliant. Very well done and thanks for posting it!

How do you display your models? With or without stickers?
HawkLord replied to hallonsylt's topic in LEGO Star Wars
For sets I know I'll keep together or whole indefinitely, I'll put stickers on. If there's a chance the set will just go into my bricks and parts bin, then stickers off and perhaps used elsewhere. I'd also put stickers on if the brick/piece they'll be going on is fairly common. -
Technically, it's unknown who has the rights to LOTR/Hobbit action figures, as Bridge Direct indicated that their license expired. Also explains why BD didn't finish any of the series. Harry Potter is getting a Lego revival because of the Fantastic Beasts movie trilogy. Otherwise, there would be no reason for Lego to chance another run at it. Meanwhile, LOTR has nothing new going for it, which is why Lego will not consider it.

Future Marvel Superheroes Rumors & Speculation
HawkLord replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
Knowing what I do about the collectibles/toys market, I would agree. It's very hard to keep secrets when your product is made in another country on the other side of the world and by now we should be seeing leaks if there really are even bigger secrets than Spidey on the horizon. I'm not saying there won't be a Red Hulk or Red Skull in the movie, but I am saying it's probably unlikely that they're getting merchandise that no one has seen yet. -
I voted Ecto-1. When I first saw that I thought it was perfect and it's still a great set, with awesome minifigures, and a good price. Being a fan since I was a kid, this was an immediate purchase for me. I even bought a second one. Runners up would be Back to the Future, as that was my first Ideas/Cusoo set and the first set my wife (girlfriend back then) and I built together; and I would also give credit to Doctor Who, as that was another set on my IPs wishlist.

I'm not a car guy, but I'm surprised about the Caterham. As mentioned, other large scale vehicles are still on the market, so it's not like Lego cars are a super hot thing. But in that group of competition, I guess I could see why Lego went in that direction. None of the licensed sets that Lego already has will get approved - Stay Puft and Rex - and LOTR is long dead. Then you have modular, which Lego can already make themselves and may be out of the Ideas price point. Adventure Time is a good win. It's an easy license to move, as so many people love it. I feel like the same people that like AT would also like Lego. And I feel like AT could be a cheaper set in the realm of $30-40.

I'm hoping not the 41st helmet. In the movies the two are different.
-
I had to look up the brick built figures to see what they're like and I honestly like them. I'm not hugely knowledgeable on AT, but the episodes I have seen are pretty good and seem really appropriate and solid for kids of this generation. It's nice to see another licensed product get the vote. The license platform is a good model to help Lego financially and with their global presence. We're really getting to the age when an IP knows they've made it if they've been Lego-ized.

The CMF arms on the Scouts look great. Lego needs to steal this idea and add just a tiny amount of printing on the white part of the arms (and maybe helmet to break up the white) and then I think the Scout is perfect.

Marvel Superheroes 2016 Rumors And Discussion
HawkLord replied to Quicksilver's topic in LEGO Licensed
I wonder if Lego has had enough lead time and knowledge of Spidey to be able to add him in the fourth set. The past couple years have told us that they don't always get accurate prelim pics or that thing change in the movie production that then makes certainerchanfise inaccurate (Kylo's Shuttle). It could be that the reason Cap may look boring and old is because Lego want given advanced info and it could be that we don't get a Spidey for the same reason.
