Thanks! That's a pretty fascinating idea, might end up in a build of mine someday! Thanks Muakhah! Thanks! I'd been wanting to use that color in this connection for a long time, so glad to finally have the pieces! Thanks! Thanks Exetrius! Yeah, I struggled a bit with the minifigure... didn't want to make him look Chinese but for some reason a turban just didn't strike my fancy either... Thank you!

Kaliphlin at Work - Day 9: Mophet - guardtower
Kai NRG replied to adde51's topic in Guilds of Historica
Great tower here adde, as others have said the dark orange really makes it stand out! Good job on the details and texture as well. -
Thanks Ayrlego! Actually the balance isn't bad (between the minifigure and the wheel, it stays upright pretty well), but adding loose merchandise was rather a pain. Ah well, it has it's quirks! I got inspiration from this image, although the proportions underwent some changes, but anyhow I suppose it ought to be possible although you'd better keep an eye out sharp for unusually strong winds and get the sail down before they hit... Anyhow he probably had a second wheel but sold it for a bargain he couldn't resist. Thanks! Thanks! I love light yellow! Thanks Garmadon! Bah, just imagine what fun it would be to half-run, half-fly behind such a contraption under a good stiff breeze! ...until it turns off course, to be sure...

This is a great little build, I kind of like the tipping trees, and the simplicity and low-tone key give it a everyday work feel (though it was cool to see a bright colored version too, great sugar cane as always but that's a different subject). But I think you've got a little too much studs-up landscape going on here. IMHO, the best thing to do with landscapes is to vary studs vs. tiles from grass to path etc. By which I mean that if your grass is primarily studs, then it's better if the path is primarily tiles (which you kind of did for the dark tan path, though I might have kept the sunken plates more to a minimum as the contrast their shadow presents when photographed is often distracting when you have a lot of other texture going on already). In this case I think it would have been particularly helpful to tile just about the entire horse path, as that is obviously beaten dirt - plus, it would make the minifigures stand out more. I also suggest using wedge plates to help with the transitions from path to grass. Just my two cents on a still well-done landscape!

The colors of this build are so nice, I really like the awnings and flowers. Great to see more of Mesozoic!

Book III - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Another build from me! -
Kaliphlin merchants are known for their resourceful inventiveness, and enlisting the wind in their service is considered the very latest technologically. Powerful winds blow across the Siccus Badlands, and provided you know how to take advantage of them, they can really speed the whole caravan thing up. This is my second creation for the Kaliphlin at Work collaboration, I enjoyed getting to use some light yellow! This was actually a bit of a challenge to build, as the cart is pretty delicate and besides, getting one wheel in the center of a cart is always a challenge! Thanks for looking! Hope you're enjoying this look into everyday Kaliphlin life, because there's more to come!

Kaliphlin at Work - Day 7: Swineherding in Wadi Khinz'ir
Kai NRG replied to adde51's topic in Guilds of Historica
Very nice job on the cracked desert sand, quite a neat collection of pigs there too although I am wondering where that one managed to find enough mud to get dirty in! The shrubs and dark orange stalks add a nice hint of vegetation to the vignette!- 20 replies

Kaliphlin at Work - Day 2: Qarkyr Box Gardens
Kai NRG replied to Kai NRG's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks W! Thank you! More is on it's way! Thanks man! I had fun with the little gardening details, in fact I did several of those - like the Minecraft head flowerpot and the toolbox - before I even started on the rest of the build! Thanks! Oh, green is good, when there's lots and lots of tan to keep it in it's proper place. -
Kaliphlin at Work - Day 6: Ha'ri the potter
Kai NRG replied to adde51's topic in Guilds of Historica
This is a really nice niche in the wall sort of build, I like how the dark color of the pottery pops against the tan wall. Great colors for the awning too!- 14 replies

Great kitchen build, I especially love the arches - impressive work getting a semicircle out of a bunch of slopes! Lots of fun detail too!

I think it's quite funny how we've managed to have so many gardens, all in boxes too, but all quite different! This one is great, I love the vines, the round windows, and the dinosaur tail - wish I had thought of that! Real nice floor too!

This is a really nice micro - as others have mentioned, the simplicity is quite pleasing to the eye! The buildings in particular look really nice. Great job showing us that sometimes less is more!

I see you've got a wee bit of olive going on there @soccerkid6! Looking forward to the balistas! -
I really like the mix of colors you've got for the wall here, in fact the dark orange is starting to seem like a Mophet specialty! Great activity with so many minifigures too!

Kaliphlin at Work - Day 2: Qarkyr Box Gardens
Kai NRG replied to Kai NRG's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks zoth! I got the horn idea from @Full Plate. Thanks! I was looking around for medieval style garden pictures, saw one shot through arches, and knew instantly that I'd have to do the same thing! Thank you! The arches were neat to work around, as they could block important details but also helped me get more in the picture on the edges without building so much! Thanks Basilicus! I had a great time experimenting with lots of different green colors for the plants here! Thank you! The key for me when building scenes like this is to be sure to pause frequently to look at it from the final angle. Sometimes it's even handing to take WIP shots from that angle, to help you get a feel for what will end up in the final shot and what won't! I really had to think a while about the back wall, I was afraid if I built it in tan that would be too much of one color. But then I realized that precious little of that wall would end up being visible in any case, and the most important thing about it was for it not to be distracting. There are quite a few pulled back shots on my blog (though as you guessed, it's far from a finished build!) but here's one too: Ahhh!! A dose of my own medicine! I even thought about that at the time, but didn't have anything handy and it didn't seem noticeable. But I'll have to be more careful not to cut corners in the future. Yes, that is indeed a Minecraft head! They're fun to sneak in every now and then, got a pretty out-of-the-system cube shape. Thank you! -
Don't convert me to using RAW please Gideon, I did that once already and it was such an extra pain! Though it may mostly have had to do with not having the right software to really benefit from the capacities it offered. What do you use to edit your RAW pictures? I have the manufacturer's software which didn't strike me as intuitive and was an extra application to open and switch between... Do you know of any open source/free image editing programs with (some degree of) RAW editing capacity?

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Kai NRG replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Actually that sounds quite right to me, unless as Legostone said your prisoners are factory workers. Art and Culture just really doesn't fit the bill if you ask me. And it also makes sense EGS-wise, because prisons aren't lucrative affairs. -
Book III - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Kai NRG replied to Kai NRG's topic in Guilds of Historica
Oh yeah, I know we've done this so often y'all are hardly surprised any more... Here's my first contribution! -
Kaliphlin may be a war torn, battle scarred guild, but here as elsewhere, ordinary hardworking people bring everyday beauty to lives throughout the Siccus Badlands. I followed @soccerkid6 and @LittleJohn's tutorial for the cobblestone technique, tweaking it a little so I could incorporate some double cheese slopes! The box gardens were a fun challenge with some half stud offsets. In the end it was great getting to use so many foliage pieces! You can see (and read) more about this creation and get a look behind the scenes here at my blog! This is my first contribution to the Kaliphlin at Work collaboration, thanks for looking! Comments, criticism, and comments that sound like criticism are all welcome!
