[Merrymas] Organising a BotBS Advent Calendar
Kai NRG replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Darnok JSYK I don't do anything LEGO related on Sunday's, so I would be posting my contribution as early as I can on Monday morning. (Likely around 7 EST.) If you would rather I post it the day before, feel free to switch me for some other day next week. -
Ha, what a fun idea to start the series with!

[COR-FB] First Snow in Elizabethville
Kai NRG replied to evancelt's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Great combination of winter and autumn. You've got a lovely amount of those wood cross-sections too. I don't have any small ones! -
Looks great Ayrlego, lovely job on the tudor second story! I like the bits of dark grey in the roof too, and incredible amount of leaves on that tree - for once, a large tree with a satisfying amount of leaves! Looks great, complements the ground colors very well. It's too bad the layout is such that you can't see the wheel from the front though, it feel like either picture misses half of the build. But I love your window designs!

Thanks Puvel! Professor Thaum has it right, a bit of Portuguese for sure but also some heavy Dutch and Spanish inspiration! We're the perfect blend.

Nice way to spice up a mundane camp scene with a skeleton find! Definitely seeing the Ayrlego inspiration on the base, and I dig the continuing autumn colors!

[COR-FB] A Day Trip to the Interior
Kai NRG replied to evancelt's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
That white stripe going through the rocks is really neat, and I love the yellow and orange on the ground. The tree colors complement the scene well, although the trunks seem a little thick and column-like. Nice bridge techinque!- 8 replies

Really like the doors, the dark tan worked well too.

Thanks everybody! This has been more of a hit than I expected, always a good feeling. Good point about the brightly colored uniforms! Especially in a bright build like this, they don't look unreasonable. That feather is from Overwatch originally. I'm trying to think of where I got it. Oh yes, the CMF Monkey king minifigure. It's not lime green however. It was red originally, just a bit of photoshop there. In fact all the lime is photoshop (GIMP actually). It's not that hard... or so I say after 9 years of slowly accumulating GIMP skills. Thanks Kawatchi! The wall and ramp between them pretty well knocked me out of dark grey plates. I've always known I should invest in more but there usually seem to be some bright distracting colors or minifigure pieces that knock the bland grey tiles out of my cart... Sorry about that! It must be something with your browser or firewall since it seems like most people aren't having that problem. I hosted the extra photos on Bricksafe. Thanks so much for the spotlight - you and Ayrlego! Thanks Maxim! I'm a bit limited on headlight bricks in white, and also I like the texture the slightly exposed studs give. Plus I can use dark yellow bricks as well as tiles and plates, which gives me about double as much dark yellow to work with. Anything to make the bricks last longer! Thanks Bodi, that is exactly what I was going for!

[OL - FB mini prize OKT] A Little Schoolhouse

Very cute! -
I think I would go for dark tan with a bit of MDF worked in - all MDF might just be too much of that color. I feel like you could do a better job on the tree though. It looks a little too much like a dirt pillar. Trees are usually round. I would suggest looking at some real trees for inspiration. Some of the abrupt angles you have going there look a little wrong. The roots and the trunk are the most important part of course since once the leaves are on that's mostly what you'll see (IDK how many leaves you've got for it, but quite possibly they'll cover from the leaf line up so you won't hardly even see it). Roots usually have exposed dirt between them, so around the edges, you might want to take off some of those slopes and put sideways MDF or something. For an example, this I consider my best tree with the slope technique. It's a bit of a nitpick, the tree is not the focal point by any means and I'm sure it'll look pretty cool covered with leaves in any case. But if you happened to be feeling a little dissatisfied with it, I'm encouraging you to revisit it.

Didn't notice the cracked sidewalk on Flickr - a really clever technique! The interiors are amazing too, so much detail. You put a lot of love into the photography and posing too, a real pleasure to scroll through!

At first I thought the dog was the new family member. A lovely car and really nice photography. The treasure chest on the back and the cupcake holder on front are both great details!

The journey of Parzival - Snakes of Mophet (Chapter I, part V)
Kai NRG replied to Zilmrud's topic in Guilds of Historica
You guys both did an awesome job! I really like the color combinations and the detail on both of yours. Great textures on the tan one and neat use of those printed dish pieces on top. The white one has a great layout too, and I love the way you put torches on both of them! Also impressive work angling the white house! -

Fort Punto Sur... more commonly known as the Omelet. I tried for an updated classic pirates style. Unsure about how the dark yellow on the fort did at capturing that. But I didn't want to dark red, since that's the next generation Imperial pirates... right? Or can you do dark red and still consider yourself classic pirates? I know, I'm betraying my youth here... I really liked how the part around back turned out (I actually like how the whole thing turned out except the pictures... I'm always hard on my pictures...). Unfortunately it's hard to see from the normal angles. Turns out redcoats are more difficult to turn into greencoats than bluecoats were. And either way Elostirion's method is looking better and better. Oh, I can't let that picture go by without mentioning my adorable turtle! And the chameleon too. So many beautiful animals lately! Back on the subject of the green torsos - I was really hoping for a darker green, which was why I tried red since blue didn't let me go that dark. Red was even worse though, it overlaps too much with the yellow arms and head to be easily edited. (In the end I went carefully over it with a brush on some special mode that resulted in bright lime green...) I enjoyed this wall/ramp technique. It's deeper on the wall than the ramp, tried doing both deep or both thin, but the ramp looked silly with deep cracks and the wall looks so much worse with thin ones. Last but by no means least we have here a shot of the commander proudly overseeing his watery domain. On the whole I think my last fort was better, mostly because of the more photogenic layout, but the bright colors of this one were certainly fun to work with. C&C welcome! Build log on my blog if you're interested. And if anyone has ideas on what kind of fort style I should try in another 8 months, let me know!

Thank you! That's a cool idea! I have a plane on my list already. Thanks to both of you!

[GoC] Purser's Network 2: Customs Office in Port Woodhouse
Kai NRG replied to Puvel's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I mentioned on Flickr that the bright flower colors really made this your own, but I didn't say how much I love the vegetation in general. Very effective use of several different kinds of parts to create detailed plants! I'm also a big fan of the transition from bumpy dirt to smooth stone. A great addition to the settlement! -
The LEGO baby is one of my favorite pieces, and it looks super cute in a helmet! I tried to create a new "baby scale" for it. First of all, a castle! Then I did a Viking ship: I also did an exploring baby to go with those two: And then of course I had to build a spaceship! spaceship! spaceship! Here's another look at all four of them - and there are fancy shots of each individual creation on my Flickr! This creation is on LEGO Ideas now, so your support would be awesome! Hope you enjoyed these micro builds! C&C welcome, and thanks for stopping by!

[MOC, freebuild] Oxenfurt forest, Avalonia

A really pleasant pathway scene, nice tree designs and bushes too! -
That's really neat! I wonder how hard it would be to add those to Stud.io with the parts designer. Printed parts are fairly easy, but I don't know anything about designing a new element. Maybe you can import a Blender file?
