General Pirates Musings/Chit Chat Thread
Mister Phes replied to Captain Pirate Man's topic in LEGO Pirates
We do indeed have a topic dedicated to this subject, but I'll spare everyone the boring history lesson and quote part of what I wrote: A couple of years few months later I was in K Mart... I'm not sure why I was in the LEGO section because I was more interested in Transformers and Monsters In My Pocket at the time. But somehow I'd stumbled it, and this is what caught my attention... 6235 Buried Treasure -
[VIDEO] MASSIVE LEGO Pirates Display!!

One of the most magnificent LEGO Pirate collections around! But like I commented on YouTube - how do you keep the dust off it? -
[POLL] Which Prizes Do You Find Most Enticing?
Mister Phes replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
23:59 on 17 August, 2024 so you've got almost 4 and a half weeks. Here is a static screenshot of the timer I just setup on Classic-Pirates.com. For the Small Building Category your entry does not to be big or complex. A crafty sailor such as yourself, could probably put together something decent in around 15 minutes... if you can squeeze that much into your busy schedule. -
[POLL] Which Prizes Do You Find Most Enticing?
Mister Phes replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Aye, that's what we've aiming for... But what kind of prize would it make it worth your time to set aside some space in your display to build a Small entry for the contest? If prizes aren't the attraction would the contest receive as many entries? And is what why you've only submitted one entry? Because you could also enter the Small Building category with a quicker build, this giving you another chance to win a prize, albeit smaller LEGO set. I agree, more valuable prizes tend to garner more attention due to the "wow factor"... but the value must be proportional to the effort required by participants to win them. While at the same time, acknowledging everyone is at different levels; I.e. what one person considers easy, another may consider immensely challenging. And we want the contest to be accessible to the widest possible audience; hence a tier system to allow participants to select their own difficulty level. -
Not I! But I am curious to know how effectively such cabinets prevent dust from settling on the LEGO...

Now that the First to 25 Challenges have wrapped up we'll probably be announcing more Prizes in the near future! But first we'd like to gain a general consensus on how these Prizes should be allocated: Prizes of greater Value OR more opportunities to WIN? Through Voting for winners at the end of the Contest? Or opportunities to WIN throughout the Contest? Which initiatives motivate you to Participate the most?

But what about At World's End? Or you were happy to be left on a cliffhanger? -

I understand what you're saying - but bigger prizes would also warrant a greater challenge! I'm currently undertaking some polling (which I'll ramp up this weekend) but so far (within that small sample group) it's 50/50 as to what people prefer. The following is tentative planning... To satisfy both preferences we could have a First to 50 Challenge with multiple Prizes, but... Participants can decide which Prize Tier they're aiming to complete: Tier 1: 25 Replies for a 25€ Prize Tier 2: 35 Replies for a 50€ Prize Tier 3: 50 Replies for a 100€ Prize So the first Participant to reach 25 Replies can claim the Tier 1: 25€ Prize... or they can keep working towards the Tier 2: 50€ Prize and leave the Tier 1: 25€ Prize for someone else. And so on... And once a Prize has been claimed, that Tier is off the board. And also, let's remember the 215€ Grand Prize Winner at the end of the Contest as determined by the other Participants. Here is the polling so far: -

Well, let's see how it goes... This thread may be useful around Contest Voting time for anyone who has not yet accumulated their minimum 10 Posts required to Vote. -

There is an entire Hello! My name is... Forum and Community Forum for such chat... But those forums seem far removed from Pirates... You could attempt such a thread to determine whether it preforms better than the aforementioned forums. But it would require a pirate focus to justify its existence in the Pirate Forum. That's fine. But if you posted... Then there's no relevance to pirates. -

[CONTEST] The Infamous Steve - Creative Critic

The next challenge depends upon sufficient interest from participants. And it will need to be something simple otherwise it will deter people from participating. So it will probably be another First to 25 Challenge since people now have a vague familiarity of what that is. But we might raise the bar slightly and say a minimum of 2 sentence Replies to ensure participants are putting more consideration into their Posts. Nothing that you couldn't easily handle. Also a question for you: Which do you find most enticing? More valuable prizes OR more opportunities to WIN? E.g. One winner awarded a 50€ Prize? Or two winners each awarded a 25€ Prize? -

I successfully placed an order for Horation who is also located in Canada so in theory there shouldn't be any issues. -

When you get a chance please send me a Private Message with: Your full name Shipping address Phone number If possible: the high resolution image of your sigfig. Doesn't have to be exact same image you're using on your Eurobricks profile. The LEGO set(s) you and/or Syndey wish claim for 25€ prize. -

[ENTRY][SMALL] International Society of Steve
Mister Phes replied to BrynnOfCastlegate's topic in Pirate MOCs
It appears your attempt to be a smart Alec has backfired! After you made a point of announcing a 13 year old girl had reached 25 posts, the honorable course of action would be to award her the Prize. -
It appears my brain was not functioning as intended... I should have wrote: Looks like someone is the First to 25 in the Large Building Category!

You're off to a good start! But if you're looking for some tips to the edge on your competitors, a visual overview was posted on Instagram. Nobody reads the fine print anyway! When playing Dungeons and Dragons, does every player memorize the rule book before their first game?

You provided some excellent feedback so you put your creative writing skills to good use! It will probably take me until July 17 to get the next challenge prepared anyway... What about someone who updates the Entries Index? If so, can provide guidance as there is a certain procedure. -
What a beautiful family photo! Do you happen to have a larger version of this photo somewhere?
