  1. I really like the little gunboat on the left, and your choice of mardierian militia uniforms make them look pretty poor and shabby! (As any Eslandian propaganda should! ;) ) The landscaping is a bit on the simple side, as is the fort, but I like the posing, and how the story is shown by different angles and poses. I am undecided as to the cartoon strip text-bubble presentation. I think I might prefer a more classic presentation, like a painting, but on the other hand, it serves to tell the story in a more dynamic way. :)
  2. Nice posing, great custom minifigs, and a wonderfully sharp presentation (The colours look great). I also like the little landing vessel and the field gun, and your landscaping is really nice. I can only add that I would have liked to see a little more story accompanying the build. Overall, great work!
  3. Nice story well illustrated with the pics, Mesabi. Your action poses are neat, and serve to support the story nicely. Personally, I am not a big fan of mixing yellow and fleshie minifigs, but I know that is a question of personal preference, and in reality, people come in many colours of course. :P I think you have a lot of good ideas, such as the receeding waves, the fish under the sea, the patches of blood, etc. and with a bit of fine tuning of your techniques, I think you will go great places! :) (I always find myself struggling to find those little details to make it all come alive! :/ You do not seem to have that issue! :) )
  4. I really like the story behind this one, Ayrlego - you've put a lot of work into it making sense gamewise, and into a good story for the build it self. Both the context and and the action parts of the story are well-written and dramatic. Keep it up! As to the build itself, I really like the dynamism you have built into it with the dramatic poses and faces. My only gripe is that the Mardierians appear to be coming out of nowhere. Obviously, there are boats just outside the build, but perhaps including one in view would help the picture be more self-explanatory? (Is that making any sense to anyone but me? :P) I also like your mortars - the use of trashbins is quite effective. As always, your landscaping is nice. I like the olive patches in the corners, and the topography of the beach, as well as the pieces of driftwood and washed up weeds on shore. If you had the bricks for it, you could have made the entire lower part of the beach (up to the small rise around mid-beach) dark tan to indicate that that is the wet sand where the waves still reach from time to time. Generally, great build! :)
  5. Show me proof that they have anything truly predating the BoC and I will be much surprised. The TC's are firmly asleep, resting in their monopolies. Give time and they will wake up to a world changed in which their power is little but a memory! ;)
  6. Wuhuu, this sounds super exciting! I will certainly try to contribute - Great write-up and nice prices! I will put a reminder in my calendar! ;)
  7. First of all, I really like how you tie your story together, bringing in these recurring characters. really helps keep the BoBS world IC alive. Second, the mill is very well done. The overall shape is great, particularly the upper dome, and I like how it is placed on a hill cleared from trees and bushes. It think the weakest part is the technic scaffolding for turning the wind. For some reason, it looks a bit off. I think plates and tiles would represent the beams better, although you might have to compromise on overall shape. Also, the wings strike me as a bit out of proportion, as if they are too heavy. Nonetheless, great rendition of a complicated subject! Third, the landscaping is nice. I like the rolling hills, very fitting for the Lacryma description. I think adding a few patches of flowers might break up the colours a little bit, though. The storehouse is simple but effective, and I like your pathways. Lastly, I like the lady-saddle - very clever detail! Keep it up! :)
  8. Nice looking tan landscaping and excellent mine. I particularly like the interior scaffolding and the minecart is very well made (although without tracks, what is the use fo such a cart? :P). It took me a while to figure out, what they were running from, as the white transparent bricks almost blend into the background, but once spotted, it works very well! Perhaps you could try for some more contrast for the water, should you ever want to revisit something like this. Excellent build anyways!
  9. *If* it works as planned, you will still pay the same price. But rather than x % going into faction coffers, they are taken out of the game.
  10. I would suggest holding back further licenses until it is announced which system the next MRCA will run under :)
  11. I doubt such a venture would have been accepted. ;) Insuring a lot of ships all going on the same mission (and a risky one at that) would have been too concentrated a risk... ;)
  12. Thank you, Captain Dee! I only hope more people will find use of it, so that it can actually turn into a business! ;) Indeed, they are supposed to be statues - and yeah, I only have those domes in dark green - other colours could have been relevant, but I liked how they looked and went with it. :) If not from the fact that noone has used the insurance company yet, () I would agree with you.
  13. I too appear to have missed this. Great looking scene, KB, and I really like how you reference former builds to tie it all nicely together. Raft and boat are both nice, and that waterwheel is massive! :O One wonders if we will ever see that as a part of a finished watermill? (Pweeeeeaaaaase! @_@) The jungle is nice too, as is the inclusion of the riverbed. Good work all around! Lavalette is progressing nicely! Still hoping the order of the faith will present more of an opposition to the RNTC than they have done so far, though ! ;)
  14. @Phred, @dr_spock or @Captain Genaro: Would it be possible to pm all transactions going into the BoC account? The numbers doesn't seem to add up. :/
  15. Welcome to Bobs, Lieutenant Picard! Are you prepared to go where no man has gone before? ;) I really like your intro. The element of conflict promises,to be a very interesting story hook, and I will be looking forward to seeing what final frontiers you will seek out! I only hope you are not taking up by the order of the faith for heresy! ;)
  16. Good looking troops, Tomsche - don't know how I missed them first time around! The Colonial Governor will be pleased to hear you are shoring up defenses, although it could concievably be seen as sign of mistrust in his and the crowns ability to protect Quinnsville!
  17. Thank you - I am very happy with the waves myself, and did my best to pose boats and minifigs carefully to illustrate the chaos. As to the story, I do my best writing on my phone when I walk the dog at night, it seems! And to clarify, that stereotype isn't mine, but Parker's own... As to the blueness of the Sergeants guard, I think that is simply the uniform of some obscure Mardierian regiment. Thanks, BD. I am happy I have hit upon the planned atmosphere with my build and story. And as should be clear, young parker shares your anger with the general and his foolhardy plan! Thanks, Professor. I like adding those little details, as I enjoy seeing them in the builds of others. Really happy you like the surf and waves - it was really fun to build - didn't know I had a signature water, but if this is it, I am quite happy with it! As you know, the beach was originally very barren, and due to yours (and Elos') feedback, I added something more, which definitely improved the final product! Thanks. Thanks, Faladrin - the two rowboats colliding was probably the first idea I got for this build - it just seemed like an obvious danger in going through the surf! (And everybody knows Eslandians are more earth-bound and less aquatic than other nationalities ) Thanks, Elos - as I said to Ayrlego, the beach part was much improved by your feedback! Again, the opinion isn't mine, but Lieutenant Parker's! My water seems to be universally liked, which is good, as I am quite happy with it my self! As to uniforms, I was originally planning on having custom Mardierian uniforms, but time escaped me. And anyways, in these days, different regiments could have widely different uniforms - at least that's my excuse! Thank you, Bodi - about the green dudes, it would be very impolitic of me to say that I agree... Thank you, Captain - Happy to hear the photography is good too.
  18. Dear all, Feel like you want to try some different themes without having to commit to a new community? We are hosting a collab with Star Wars themed Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka, who asks us to build for the Black Sun crime syndicate, competing with the two player factions (Rebels and Empire) for control of the galaxy. Head over to this thread to see what it is all about. All participating BoBS players will get a small prize, with larger prizes for the best and second-best entry. May the force be with you!
  19. Dear all, We know (and hope ) that you are all busy with some awesome entries for the last chapter of challenge V. And while we do not want to take your attention away from that, we still have a little something extra to offer. As some of you may know, Eurobricks is the home of several RPGs, and one of them, the Star Wars themed Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka, has proposed a collaboration. In short, we (and other Eurobricks RPG's) build for the NPC faction in their challenge, and they will offer their builders for some of our challenges in the future. But what is our role in this? We are building for the Black Sun in this challenge (Operation Eclipse) together with volunteers from other eurobricks RPGs. As such, our builds will compete against the two player factions in SoNE, comparable to if we had someone building for Mardier in a future challenge. A few words about the Black Sun from Nar Eurbrikka staff member LucasLaughing: The deadline is the 3rd of June, well after our own challenge V ends. Each builder can build one build, placed in one of three locations: The Sewers Imperial and Rebel builders must show their sigfig sneaking through the sewers of Coruscant to infiltrate Xizor's palace Black Sun builders must show Black Sun gangsters protecting the entrance to the palace Xizor's Palace Rebel builders must show their sigfig fighting through the palace to rescue Leia Imperial builders must show their sigfig fighting through the palace to capture Xizor Black Sun builders must show Black Sun gangsters fighting off the intruders Xizor's Skyhook Builders must show a chaotic space battle as Imperial, Rebel, and Black Sun forces fight around the skyhook Our builds will be scored similarly to the player builds, and if the Black Sun (us) wins, the player factions will lose territory. If you are interested, or want more information, go to the Black Sun sign-up thread and state your business. The Brethren Court would like to encourage you to participate, to spur cross-theme collaboration and to gain the assistance of other themes in some of our future challenges. Therefore, participation will be awarded as follows: BOBS prizes: All participants are awarded the right to license a small property based on a microbuild. Best (BoBS) entry instead gets a large property. 2nd best gets a medium. These licenses must still be paid for, but only requires microbuilds for activation. We hope you like this offer - and should you have any questions, feel free to ask them here, or over in the Nar Eurbrikka forum. May the force be with you!
  20. They were Eslandian when captured. If the Sea Rats wanted to gain some goodwill, they could concievably hand them back, but being sea rats... Well... (During the Napoleonic Era, I believe the british rule was that if it was less then 24 hours since it was captured, it was salvage (to be handed back for a small bounty), but if it was more, it was a legal prize.)
  21. You have really captured the elegance of the lateen rig beautifully in both vessels, which is no small feat. And I really like colour scheme of the xebec - the ornate red on the white (and nicely shaped) hull, just like the felucca's discreet brown, works out really well. I am pretty impressed by the shaping of the hulls, which is hard to get right at this scale. (Just like the guns at this scale - would like to see more of them too). I don't think I have anything to suggest in terms of constructive criticism for the vessels, as they are really very well made! The waves work well, although at closer gaze, the 2x2 slopes does look a tad too straight sided. Perhaps just using one layer of those, varying their height and interspersing them with plates and cheese slopes could make it look more realistic. However, as I said, they work well for the purpose here as is. :)
  22. Contractors on friendly terms with the King's Harbour Administration and the Crown of Corrington are welcome to operate the factory themselves, subject to the 80 dbs compensation. :)
  23. Update! The military governor has raised the offer to 100 dbs for the winning design(s). Should a contractor wish to license and run the factory himself, the compensation will be 80 dbs. Captain Jonathan Cooke, RN Colonial Governor of the Southern Isles, Mayor of King's Harbour
  24. Maxim, we are talking about it in court now, and will let you know when we know more. :)
  25. That is one nice 18-gun ship-sloop, sir! And I really like how you integrate it into your storyline too. I like the hull shape, with some nice tumblehome, and the colourscheme is very nice. You've got some nice details on deck like the railing and the capstan. Suggestions for more could be a few swivel guns, carronades, a ship's bell, or similar. The cabin looks nice too, although it seems rather bulky. I think making it narrower would help, although that would probably also require narrowing down the hull more towards the stern. The bow is nice, with its headrails and figurehead. A few comments on rigging. I like your fighting tops, and really appreciate how you have made room for the shrouds to pass through! You've got the right yards too, although I think you should experiment with a different way to fix them to the mast. Currently, they are rather far out from the mast. If you wish to go for more realism, you could divide the masts into lower masts, topmasts, and topgallantmasts. It also seems to me that the mainmast is a bit to far aft. It is correct that the mainmast would be closer to the mizzen than the fore, though, but it seems a little to pronounced in this case. And a last pointer. For a square rigged ship, never let the flags fly aft - as the ship wouldn't be able to sail that direction... But perhaps she is at anchor? All in all, great work!
