[COR RSND] Warehouse of the RSND in Jameston
Bregir replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Good looking ware house - I like how it is not just a rectangular, but has the part with the entrance. Nice interior too and cool flag by LM71, which looks nice in the brick. -
Can we ask you to take some preliminary pics with your phone or similar to show the build done and then update with proper pictures later?

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II

COR detains none. For now... *dum dum DUM! * :P -
Beat this as the first gunboat of the Brick Seas: ;)
-
Nice gunboat, Bodi! The hull shape turned out wonderfully, although I am not sure I would dare bending the shrouds so much! :O I think the green gunwale (isn't that what it's called?) is a nice touch. The gun appears to be mounted very high, though, and I don't think that will do any good for stability while firing! ;) Also, with all the black, the shape of the hull is very hard to make out, so you could probably try to work a bit more with light. I have noticed that your pictures rarely do your great MOCs justice, and often, it is hard to make out the details. All in all good job! Great to see all those gunboats spring up in the brick seas! Corlander innovations spread fast, eh? ;)

You will not be able to sistership a lost one, if it is a prefab moc. I suppose that is what you mean? :) Otherwise, it isn't affected. -
Hey, this looks strangely familiar! Cool reproduction and good little story. I would love if these sistershipping builds included a link to the original moc, though. Most ships are worth a revisit and its much easier to figure out what is going on! :)

@LM71Blackbird The court has convened on this case, and as per the general rule update, the court has decided to allow you the following. You can license 2 class 1s and 2 class 0s. Some of them are prefabs, and some of them are are too similar, particularly considering it is LDD. In addition to this, and to appreciate the work done on the scene, you can license the scene as a large fishery (plantation). Let us know if this leads to any questions.

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
RULE UPDATE Dear all, The court has discussed class 0 boats and come to the following conclusions. Henceforth: Prefab boats, canoes, etc. can no longer be licensed. Class 0 vessels now count 0.5 towards your shiplimit. (Rounding up) Existing class 0's will be allowed until sunk, although they will be impacted by the 0.5 shiplimit increase. I will update the relevant rules. -

Good progress, Mesabi! Two things to add to LS comment. 1) I think you should make the cabin a bit narrower. I know I said fishtail, but this might be wagging a tad bit too much. :P 2) Something I forgot last time. Since you want to do string rigging, you should consider how you can ensure strength in the chain plates (where the shrouds are anchored in the sides of the hull.) and where your forestays are anchored too. If you do that already you will save yourself a lot of trouble later and it will be much easier to make proper rigging. -

New developments of the King's Harbour naval base. -
Captain's log, 12th of June, 618 AE, Cocovia Today, I have been inspecting another part of the growing naval base. While the actual installations of today's tour, Quay no. 3, was relatively unimpressive, the vessels docked there were highly interesting. The quay is nothing but a place for vessels under refit to dock, awaiting masts, rigging, supplies, armament, or similar, but one cannot underestimate the importance of space. Ships that would otherwise occupy a critical element like a dry dock can now be placed out of the way, while minor tasks are being carried out. It was a busy day at the quay, where the Montoya Estate had just finished outfitting a new schooner, the Amethyst, to compensate for capacity lost by two of the Estate's vessels being held ransom by Oleon. I had the pleasure of inspecting the ETTC Minotaur, which had just gotten her masts in at the masting sheer, and was now undergoing preparations for her final outfit, dockyard workers over her. She is the largest vessel yet to be constructed at the King's Harbour shipyards, and will bring a whole new level of capacity to the ETTC. I had the pleasure of inspecting her together with industrial magnate Sir Dee ( @Captain Dee), who has a particular interest in ship building. This Terraman has a deep hold, five gunports a side for 18 pounders, and spacious cabins for guests and officers alike, and will certainly be a great asset to the ETTC. Fletcher later told me al'Sayeed was voicing some very troubling complaints about Corlander ships being detained under a threat of violence. This could risk leading to diplomatic incident, but at least the Montoya crews has been instructed to remain passive and make no attempts at escaping. Hopefully, this issue can be recolved peacefully - I have had high hopes for relations to Oleon. In many ways, they are more similar to us than the greenies and all their trade and profits... /Cooke _______________________ Another part of the KH port. C&C welcome. Both ships will be shown separately later. :)

Settlement: Port Raleigh, Annetta, Corrington

The Cherry Blossom Tea House of Port Raleigh which will be licensed as a medium artisan. (By the settlement) -
Ibn al'Sayeed was heading west. There were business he needed to attend to in the old world. In Pan to be exact. Personal business. But he was not in such a hurry that he could not make a stop underway to meet an old friend. Very old, in fact. Zhen Chao was one of the few, and one of the first, Lotii to have made it to the Halosian colonies. Very few knew why he had left home, or what his story was, but everyone in Port Raleigh, at least, knew of the Cherry Blossom Tea House, run by Chao. It was a very popular establishment, and served some of the finest tea in Terra Nova. Many people met there, as the quiet atmosphere and discrete location made it suitable for private conversation. The guests included naval and army officers, government officials, merchants, politicians and others of note. The tea house took its name from the ever blossoming Lotii cherry trees planted outside and presented an exotic and beautiful garden draped in colours rarely seen in the tropical heat of the colonies. "Al'Sayeed, my old friend!" Chao exclaimed with a smile, hobbling closer. "Come share a cup of tea and tell me all of your recent exploits." Discreetly handing over a sealed folder of documents and a small pouch of gold. "And perhaps you have something to share with me, about the Lotii/Carnian conflict in New Haven? Or perhaps... other business?" ______________________________________ I started building something for Port Raleigh, and it ended up looking rather oriental, so I thought, why not? :) I needed Ibn al'Sayeed going west, and Port Raleigh could use the love. C&C welcome.

Overall good shape of her hull and a nice colour scheme, Spud. I think she might be on the chubby side (length to width ratio wise) but for a merchant that is probably just a sign of plenty of cargo capacity! ;) Somehow, the proportions of her rig seems a little off, as if she is underrigged. I think I would suggest moving the foremast a few studs forward if possible (and perhaps the main a few studs back) to get longer boom and gaff on the fore mainsail. I would also raise the gaffs (upper booms) up to maybe just above the level where the lower yard hangs. I like the cargo hatch, the use of brickbuilt guns, and the tiling on the deck, as well as the cabin. Overall, nice work! Thank you, Bodi. Well, they were extensively used by the barbary states for pirate business, being very weatherly, fast, and able to outrun most enemies. They often carried oars to be able to work in light weather, which gave them a distinct advantage in a calm. There were also heavier xebec frigates, often polacre rigged like mine here. One example is the famous El Gamo, which was captured by Speedy. For national navies I think they were mainly used for light frigate duty, amongst which to combat the pirates that would be using similar vessels :) Looking fantastic - I am particularly impressed with the galleries and the overall shaping - a very ambitious project! Already looking much better, Mesabi - good work on the tumblehome so far. As to the 6 shooters, I think the picture of the Flying dutchman LS shared would be a good place to go for inspiration. Keep us updated :) -

No worries - It can be a bit overwhelming, we know! :) There are no longer any requirement for using the freebuild thread as these things have been automated. Instead, go to the Master Index and find the build submittal form. And then just fill in the form. :) -

Bregir replied to blackdeathgr's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
My heart has been aching day and night for someone who would take up the mantle of the Order of the Faith! It is fantabulous to see this finally come to fruition! Great introduction, and nice little build - I suggest posting it in its own thread and registering it as a free build, which will give you another 10 dbs to get you started. As to your ship (the Papillon, right?), I am not sure it can be licensed (being a microscale vessel), but you could post it (perhaps build a small scene of it docking in port) as the ship that took you to where ever you are going. That will make another freebuild and a nice addition to your story. And going though your (interesting!) flickr, I think you can scrape together the bricks for your free class 1 or 2 vessel. :) In any case, I shall be looking forward to following your stories. Remember that you are always free to make secondary characters, if you want/need a break from the inquisition! ;) -
Montoya's personal diary, Day 36, the wonders of fire Again, young Baker proves his versatility. Having attended geology lectures in Belson, he identified a local mineral that could be used for striking a fire. Since then, we have had warm, well-cooked food. /Montoya

[COR-FB] Fort Totie in Jameston
Bregir replied to Spud The Viking's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
As I said elsewhere, I absolutely adore this little fort. It looks so efficient and at the same time cute! Your guns are great, and they fit very snugly into the emplacements. I find it quite impressive that you have managed to include sloping sides at this scale, and I like the detailing inside and out. You have also given it life with all those minifigs in different poses. Well done, Chieftain Spud! -
Montoya's personal diary, Day 35, Hunting After finding the curious alter in the middle of the jungle-engulfed ruins, our interest was piqued. Hence we followed the tracks inland on what seemed a former main road, now reduced to a track for animals and natives. We see signs of the natives everywhere, but have, curiously, not seen any in the flesh. Young Baker has crafted a fine bow, and has proven very effective at procuring specimens of the local wildlife, including an interesting local type of deer, which, coincidentally also proved very tasty and nutritious. /Montoya

Cooke and Fletcher discusses the RSND at Cooke's country retreat. -
Things were returning to normal after the great ball that had turned King's Harbour upside down in preparation and anticipation of the event. The local commerce had benefited from the guests, although it had not brought the activity and investments in the settlement hoped by the Colonial Governor. However, with sir Michael Farley appointed colonial administrator to King's Harbour, Cooke now had more time on his hands to handle governor's business and his Royal Navy commitments. He had even found the time to retreat to his country residence just outside King's Harbour from time to time, enjoying the peace and quiet of the countryside on beautiful Cocovia. Today, though, rear-admiral Fletcher had come to visit to discuss the newest developments in the colonies, the establishment of the Royal Society of Navigation and Discovery, and its grand expedition. "Mr. Epper II. showed his abilities in constructing the wagon way here on Cocovia, and he seems a competent fellow..." Cooke pondered "...but this new Royal Society of Navigation and Discovery and their 'grand expedition' is quite the undertaking. He will have every chance to prove his meddle... or to fail miserably..." "I know only little of the man, but I am assured he is competent. And he has some good seconds in that Clutchington fellow and Captain Blackwood." "Formerly of the Royal Marines, I believe?.." Cooke interjected. "Indeed - although there was some talk of... amourous missteps... I have never heard any reproof against his tactical skills." the rear-admiral said with something that was almost a chuckle. "But there are some rumours of extravagance and overspending. I am told that an initial Royal grant of 1000 dbs was deemed insufficient, and it was to be doubled...." "Doubled!" Cooke said raising a brow. "2000 dbs to outfit an expedition?" "Indeed - and it seems mr. Epper II. are lobbying for even more funds." Fletcher said. Cooke seemed somewhat shocked. "Imagine what the Royal Navy could do with an extra grant of 2000 dbs... That would be three brand new frigates with money to spare!" "And a possible end to many a pirate, yes." "I have a feeling the activities of the Society will be watched carefully by her Majesty and the ministry..." Cooke said. "And by every political opponent to the Society vying for funding..." Fletcher brooded. A house I build some while back but which was missing a story. Happily, the RSND came along for a little commentary by Cooke and Fletcher. :) C&C on my efforts towards a tuscan style country home for the Governor.

Curious indeed! I wonder, though, if not the Order would want its artifacts back, rather than see them hidden in someone else's museum? Perhaps the red cloaks will interfere? Who knows? ;)

I agree with what LS has said - most ships seen from above have that sort of fishtail shape. Narrow in bow and stern and widest on the middle, but with the cabin in the back widening out like a fishtail. @Capt Wolfis also eminent at using colours to accentuate lateral curvature, which is very clear on Espada de Luna. What is the material you use for sails, btw Capt Wolf? :) I agree - but I am shamefully looking for something that is easier - with the glue soaken and colouring, I might as well approach the sewing machine again... :P
