  1. Thanks, all. I did enjoy this small build, although it was mainly a way to allow me to tell the story. Was fun to build though, and I too like the result. The Trifork has been relatively unscarred by the recent conflicts, and the troops have returned, most of them safely, so there is really no need for gloomy moods! And thanks - Located at the banks of a great lake, it is expected that part of the thriving city will expand out into the water. Thanks, Vlad! You latest build had me a bit worried about our alliance, but I shall be looking forward to your response to the message to come! Thanks, SK. In fact, I was very inspired by one of his Valyrian builds - I simply forgot to mention it - and now I can't find the link. However, it had more or less the same layout, although on a larger scale and a different class! I love how that sand green house turned out too. Thanks, Faladrin - The Trifork is a very diverse city, and it is fun to show the different districts! Glad you like the story too - it was really meant to be the star of this build! It will be fun to see who and how people responds, when I get the messenger builds up! And to think it all started with an Aslanic temple! (More or less ) Located at the border of Kaliphlin, the influence is obvious in many details and buildings of the city. On top of that, it is organised more like a city state than a feudal realm so typical for Avalonia. Happy you took the time to read it - and even more that you enjoyed it!
  2. Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3a Chapter 3b Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 After having just received a call for aid from Drond's Feelds, Beorthan has mobilised the forces of the Trifork. As they are making their preparations, he has asked his wife Mariana to join him and Drake for a walk through the city. "…therefore, I will head the cavalry to join forces with Lord Alric, and Drake will take the infantry south to stop any forces from moving through our lands. In the meantime, you will handle matters here, Mary." Mariana and Drake both nod, as they follow Beorthan through the narrow canal streets of the lakeside quarter. "However, there are some things we need to discuss before we leave. As you both know, the Trifork has come out of the Kaliphlin civil war stronger than ever. Our economy is booming, and our troops are experienced and battle-hardened. However, we cannot stand alone." As they pass a small bridge, Drake chimes in: "I agree. The situation in Kaliphlin is still uncertain - with the High Council holed up in their cities, and the Desert King already proclaiming his triumph, we have a mess at our borders. Not to talk of the trouble brewing in the Darklands…" Mariana continues with a frown: "Further, the situation amongst our own ranks is shaky at best. With the lords of Avalonia having backed different sides in the war, animosity and distrust has been sparked. The trouble to the south may end up being the least of our problems." Pausing to greet a townsperson passing by, Beorthan agrees: "My analysis is the same, my friends. Therefore, we need to reach out to all and every ally we have. This task will fall upon you, my love - I have no doubt you can handle that, as well as the daily management of the city." Mariana and Beorthan exchange a loving glance. "When you were elected Lord Mayor, I knew these duties would fall upon me in times of need. Things will be taken care of, as I long for your return…" Returning her smile, Beorthan continues with a serious tone: "I want emissaries sent out at speed. Our allies in the High Council must be reassured that the might and wealth of the Trifork will continue to back any decision they may take on Kaliphlinite matters." "I concur. The High Council best represents the interests of the free Kaliphlinite cities, the people, and the merchants; and as such too the interests of the Trifork. Not to mention the atrocities and despotism of the Desert King…" Drake adds. Mariana ponders for a second: "I will send riders to the MacLeans in Eastgate; to Lord Gideon in Barqa; to Lord DaMaximus of Mpya Stedor; and to the pockets of resistance in and around the Nestlands. From there, word can be spread of our continued allegiance." Both Drake and Beorthan nods. "Further, it is imperative that we reestablish diplomatic relations to Lord Vladivus of Shadowmere. He has shown friendship before, and we are not to let down our friends now. Reassure him that having backed different factions in the Kaliphlinite civil war changes nothing. He may count on our alliance and continued support of his resistance in Nocturnus." Mariana seems to be taking mental note of the instruction and nods. "It will be so. Lastly, I will send a messenger to our Lord Regents, Simon of Nalderic and de Gothia of Benoic, expressing our concerns on the current political situation in Avalonia." "I'd suggest we invite them here to discuss the situation in person, the matter being of a somewhat delicate nature…" Drake suggests. "Such will be our agreement. Mylady, you will see to the city, while Drake and I prepare to depart. I shall return to bid you farewell before I leave." ________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yet another build for the Aestwäld saga. This is mainly a story build, so forgive me the picture to text ratio - I simply had a lot of things to get done before Beorthan leaves the city to aid Alric. I hope my shameless namedropping will be forgiven - I plan to post builds with the messengers later. (Meaning that the implied VIP's will also see the exact messages sent to them from the Trifork.) C&C is, as always, more than welcome. This collab is turning out to be funnier than I expected!
  3. Thanks! I've got a few more story builds to add before I will continue on the plaza, but hopefully, you will not have to wait too long! Thanks, Garmadon - cocreating a storyline is really fun, as it allows interpretation of the story so far (e.g. the lost message). I too look forward to more - wondering where this may take us! Glad you like the steps - the first iteration was all flat, but this is much better. And if you like that fountain, I think I have a treat in store for you when you see the whole plaza! The interior is meant to mirror the outside of the townhall, although that might be hard to spot with the current plaza photo. Thanks, my Lord Regent! It was fun playing around with focus and light, and I am really happy how it turned out. I am a bit concerned about getting the whole thing photographed as it is quite large. Luckily, I still have some building to do before that will be an issue! Thanks, W! I have loosely modelled it after central Italian cities like Firenze and Siena - hope you will still like it when you see the whole thing! Thanks, Mike! Well, thank you, Titus! I too am glad to have been invited to join - thanks! Patience, my young padawan... (Wait, wrong universe! ) Thanks! Thanks, Blufiji. Glad you like the interior - and yes - collabs are definitely fun! Really helps build up the community. Thanks, SK. I don't think Beorthan much likes the message such a throne sends, but one can't fight tradition! I really hope the plaza wont dissapoint when I get it posted! Thanks, LJ - Glad you like the entrance - I was trying to make it look imposing and convey an impression of this being the centre of power.
  4. When I saw this build on flickr, I was worrying we had a George R. R. Martin moment on our hands! However, reading about it here, I feared for a moment something much worse! That Vladivus was about to change sides! Luckily, that does not seem to be the case Nice little build - the landscaping is nice, and I quite like the tree. Of course, the minifigs and the posing is outstanding too, and the story was quite captivating and dramatic - keep it up!
  5. Hi Mitch, I am all for new thougts and inputs, but since that isn't really how GoH works, I think you will need to elaborate a bit on your thoughts and ideas, before I can comment any further :) Events affecting the "global" story and development of Historica are typically driven by the main challenges, arranged and coordinated by the guild leaders. That way, there is cohesion to the story and no one gets trampled. That said, some builders have managed to affect the overall storyline through creating stories (sometimes in collaboration - see for instance the nocturnian resistance story) for their own lands and characters that tie into the overarching storyline. Creating the lore of histories Historica is really a collaborative effort. :) I wiped also echo Milo's point about not affecting others. Of you create something interesting that others can tap into that is great, but it should never be forced. Like all other RP, it should always be opt in, not forced in ;) And of you ever have any doubts as to how something fits into someone else's story, write them a pm to ask. Most people are happy to cooperate, but few like to have anything forced up upon them. Lastly, to claim great power is not enough in Historica. You have to make your claim credible, through builds and stories. See for instance Maxim's Mpya Stedor for someone who has built (quite literally :P) a position of power. You probably already know most of the above, but I hope it helps a little bit anyway. Looking forward to hearing more of your ideas! :)
  6. Wow, what an amazing depiction of a medieval town, Jacob. The rats seem to have settled well after their exodus from their mountain realm. The architecture looks really realistic, and the lightning combined with the colour scheme gives it a great atmosphere. Further, I think you have struck a nice balance with your greebling, as I it can be overdone. However, rats and "black sailed ships"? This reminds me of the plague storyline of the Avalonian civil war - should one be suspicious? www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=96677
  7. I really like the look of that building! The roof is great (although the underside on the interior shot could use some work ) and the texturing of the wall is great too. Further, I really like how you have built the house into the cliffs. On top of that, one wonders where this story will lead. It seems the enemy is more than just a group of disorganised raiders!
  8. I think the first build shows that you have taken in the advice you have gotten on earlier builds, which really is what GoH is all about! :) The Kelra build is really nice, and I particularly like the first photo, looking down the corridor! One thing I would like to see is some texturing of the ground. While the walls are great, the ground is a bit lacking. This is a little harder to accomplish, but it really adds to the build. :) I like the throne room too, and the posing and sequence of the photos are great. You have put some nice thought into the details in the room, but it does look at little bland in places. Maybe a solution could have been to make it smaller? Alternatively, building one or two of the walls could have been an option to get away from the somewhat "stuff on a plate" look it has. Overall nice builds, good story and excellent action shots! Keep up the good work. Looking forward to more from you.
  9. Ska: What is the current situation in Eastgate with the McLeans? Say Beorthan wanted to send emissaries to his allies of the High Council from the civil war, who would he contact from Eastgate/G.E.A.R.? In your prologue builds, I seem to remember some sort of reconciliation between the two.
  10. First, what a stunning build - I will echo the choir of chariot fans above! Second, I really love how you have picked up the storyline and made Gorr the center of Ulandian resistance! Third, the Trifork still supports the High Council on all Kaliphlinite matters (storyline coming up when I get the time) - And it would seem to me, that your intentions should be welcomed by the "old" High Council.
  11. Welcome amongst our ranks, Faladrin. We are pleased to have you. Further, nice intro - I will be looking forward to seeing Falahuas develop! Be sure to have a look at the tasks in the first post, as they offer great inspiration. PS. Nice to see that end of Avalonia getting a little more love, as it has been somewhat underrepresented during my time here!
  12. What an absolutely stupendous build! All three sections are great, and this is something I would really like to have seen in person. There seems to be a lot of good details all over the place! Great work!
  13. Looking forward to seeing that build, Gedren! Great (temporary) wrap up, Ska - that is pretty much how I have been imagining it too. The High Council still has supporters outside Kaliphlin too, so as long as there is a resistance, the Trifork will support it! Vive la republique!
  14. Another build up for TitusV's Aestwäld saga: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=115694
  15. Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3a Chapter 3b Chapter 4 It is early morning in the Trifork, and the hustle and bustle of the city is only just beginning as the citizens wake up and begin their daily chores. Beorthan has just arrived at the city hall, and is now standing on the balcony, overlooking the very heart of his lands. From here, he sees a battered and beaten man limping his way towards the entrance of the building. Ordering the guards to let the uniformed man in, he turns on his heels and rushes to the mayors office, calling his friend and second in command, sir William Drake, to join him. In the office, he receives the battered man solemnly with a small bow. "Greetings, sir - May I call for someone to take you to the infirmary?" The man looks up anxiously, his body obviously aching from some incident. "Thank you most kindly, mylord - but first, I must speak my business - it cannot wait!" Beorthan frowns and looks to Drake, then back to the man. "Well, man, if it cannot wait, speak up immediately!" "Of course, mylord! I bring word from Alric, Lord of Drond's Feelds, and in his heart your friend and ally. He most humbly requests the strength of the Trifork to ride to his immediate aid..." Drake raises a brow, and gives Beorthan a significant look. "We too regard Alric and Drond's Feelds as our friends and allies. But what troubles have led him to seek our help? And what happened to you?" Still somewhat breathless from the strain of his travels, the messenger stops to collect his thoughts before speaking. "I was beset upon by an unseen enemy, setting a trap for my mount. I have been running here with all my speed. You must react quickly, as I am already delayed too long!" Beorthan motions to the man to calm down. "We shall ride out within the day, if only you will let me know to what end!" The messenger looks down in despair. "I... I have lost the message as I was ambushed... but..." "Yes?!" "An unknown enemy has raided our southern villages mercilessly. They have come from the east... in great number..." Looking to the maps, Beorthan seems alarmed. "From the East? They must have come through my lands... 'Tis unacceptable!" "But sir... There is more... They have taken lord Alric's wife... Your niece..." Narrowing his eyes, Beorthan's resolve seems to grow - he turns to Drake. "William, I want you to take a company of infantry south. We must block our enemy from getting reinforcements." Turning to the messenger: "You will be escorted to the infirmary, and if you are up to it, I shall ask you to ride out with me, as our guide. We shall be leading the cavalry." "Thank you, sirs. Lord Alric will consider himself in your debt." The messenger bows as best he can, before being helped out of the office by a guard. ________________________________________________________________ My humble addition to TitusV's Aestwäld Saga - We Avalonians can also do collabs! You may consider the first picture a teaser for a large build (my largest so far ) of the main plaza of the Trifork, which you will see whenever I 1) get it finished 2) figure out how to photograph it. As always, c&c is welcome. Hope you like it.
  16. Another nice addition to the saga! The ruins are nice, as others have said, and I like the tree and the general vegetation. As always looking forward to following this interesting story further!
  17. Nice little build, Windusky. Will be looking forward to following your rangers in their quests and duties!
  18. Looking good, LD, especially that monument! You have been missed in Avalonia! About the blue tint. I adjust my photos (with limited luck, granted ) in windows Photos, and it allows me simple adjustments like contrast, brightness and tint Just a tip!
  19. Cool! I think this is the first example of sewers I have seen in GoH, and it is brilliantly executed! Both below and above ground is looking great, and the details in the sewer are nice. Further, I really like the "building" on top of the entrance. It reminds me of something from one of the Assassins Creed games. Looking forward to seeing more of Orodreth!
  20. Another minichallenge? YAY!!! (And welcome back, Z)
  21. That is a great tower and I really like how it is angled and all the nice detailing. The rockwork, foliage and tree is nice too. However, I don't really like the use of tiles for landscaping. It is not stop much the colours I object to, but rather that the texture looks unnatural. Overall a great build, though!
  22. I build when I have BOTH the time and the motivation. And I really think this motivation should be intrinsic. It should be you wanting to build, or you being driven by a good idea. If you are motivated by a perceived pressure from the community or by a feeling of obligation, I think there is a risk of burnout. (Which I think is what happened to some during the Kaliphlin challenge.) Remember, we are all here too have fun building and exploring this exciting world. No one is committed beyond skill, motivation, and available time :)
  23. Anything that isn't part of a challenge is basically a freebuild.
  24. I'll be voting towards using the HSS thread too. It has all the functionality, and is builder driven with minimum requirements for a single person. "All" RogueAng has to do is to review the status of the settlements from time to time, which can be done when convenient, and isn't strictly necessary for the purpose of tracking settlements. (And thanks again to RogueAng for the brilliant task :) ) I am planning to link all trifork builds in that thread. So all in all, we do not need to do any thread necromancing on this one ;)
  25. I think you need a little patience, Titus To help speed up the process, I have turned your map into a more readable format: Map - Drond's Fields And I think those different titles are a remnant of book I - so I wouldn't worry too much about them.
